Why is everyone talking this up. Worse than an Alpha release with way to many issues .
No weight limits on containers😡. Containers do not give total weight of contents in them😡. Custom items can not be added to containers😡. Extra dimension bags add total weight of contents to encumbrance 😡. Coins can not be added to containers 😡. No stronghold container for items stored there 😡. All this should of been basic functionality.
They would have been better off waiting for containers to be fully functional because as it is now achieves nothing. We still need to do all the hard parts to track encumbrance and how much space is available in each container. There was nothing to brag about with this release it is just a half arsed disappointment.
I don't care that they are working on shared inventory I want working containers for an individual sheet that does the math to manage space and encumbrance, I don't give a rats about shared inventory until individual inventory works.
Step 1 - allow items to be marked as stored in containers, and arrange the items in the sheet to show this - DONE
Step 2+ - all your "issues", which are simply further enhancements to build on this first iteration. (It's easier to count the weight in a container when all the items are listed under the name of the container).
Would you buy a car without an engine with the vague indication you may get parts of it in the future but push it around manually while you wait for the engine. This is what you are accepting with step 2.
You dont buy a car here, nor do you buy this feature. It is something completely free which they are working on and present in an early stage, so that people can see that they heard the requests for it and are working on it while simultaneously getting feedback on what is really important to us. All in all, if this were a final version, it would be alright. Not phenomenal, but alright and better than before. Its not the final version however, and so a good start and a good move to present and interact with the users to get some proper feedback.

Sorry this is not free, I pay a subscription fee and expect new updates to work and not introduce new issues. The car analogy is accurate in this instance. As for giving subscribers what they have been asking for it has taken years to add this feature and the main thing subscribers (paying users) were asking for was a working encumbrance system which has not been delivered.
Yes it is free since it does not require one to be a subscriber to use. And the automatic calculation of total carry weight is already a lot more useful than a character sheet on paper. I am however already quite convinced that ur just a troll, so this will be the last answer from me to you. In case I am wrong, I hope u can see the positives and just be happy about what is to come.
Add another request for allowing to re-order the way containers are displayed. All my equipment used to mostly be at the top of my old inventory. Now, after sorting things into the appropriate containers…all my equipment is down at the bottom of my inventory. So, either allow re-ordering of containers, or at least put equipment at the top of the list by default.
Also, I noticed that collapsing the view on containers was not remembered if I went to a different part of the menus. I collapsed all my containers other than equipment…then went to look at spells….and then went back to my inventory and all my containers defaulted back to open. Kind of annoying.
Outside of that, this is a great move in the right direction for character management. Thanks.
I opened my character in the phone app, and when I later went back to the web site, all the customisation of my items had disappeared! This includes the names of each of the custom books that were in my inventory.
Losing information is NOT a good thing for an "improvement" to do!

It isn't at all like a car.
It is more like a piece of clothing.
Step 1 - here's a piece of cloth to wrap around you.
Step 2 - let's put some holes in it so that you can work in it better.
Step 3 - let's sew the sides so that it fits better and doesn't impede your work so much.
- A gradual increase in functionality...
Or you could wait 3 years for them to implement everything - and you think that they aren't doing anything for those three years.
Okay, maybe I’m missing something here but I seem to have lost the option/ability to add custom items to my inventory. Do I now have to create the item as a homebrew item so it can be added to inventory or is there a new way to add custom items on the fly to the inventory?
Also, when trying to add items/patches to a Rob of Useful Items some of the patches are containers (sack, rowboat, etc…) and can’t be added to the Robe’s inventory. Will this be changed in a future patch?
Edit: Apparently I can add custom items from the app, just not from the website. So as a workaround I can create the item in the app and view it on the website but I can’t move the custom items to different containers.
Also, the app seems designed more for smartphones, less viewable amount per screen than on a single screen on the website. Is there any plan to make a tablet oriented version of the app, hopefully with an interface similar to the website’s?
There also seems to be one container type missing that every single game that tracks weight uses and that is a home or cargo, trunk, chest, vault, or whatever so you can stow items that you want to horde not bother carrying around all the time etc....
As it is I have to make notes on a file in my computer for this feature and than go through and add what I grab back into my inventory.
Would be great to just have it on the Sheet and click transfer to and from it as well.
Is there a plan to make a container to store items coins and what not for safe keeping that removes the weight, until you grab them out of it?
As of right now, custom items may only go in "Equipment". A work around is to add an innocuous item such as chalk and customize it to be what you want in the bags. This would include changing "chalk" into "Sacks" so you can put them in your backpack or Robe of UI.
Any idea when it will work on the Android DDB app?
Also is there any way to turn on confirmations for removing items? I've accidentally pressed [remove] a few times when I meant to click something else that was close by (big fingers small screen)
Even though it might be a little while after this was announced, THANK YOU for implementing this!!!

Dunno if anyone has said this yet, but when copying a character it deletes everything in your bag of holding. At the same time it also triplicated my driftglobe.. but I dunno if my DM would consider this legal ;)
Are there plans to have a shared container across members of a campaign? I'm looking to have a common "wagon" container whose contents sync with all the campaign members.

Tell me, did the first cars come with GPS navigation, air conditioning, keyed ignition, power windows, power doors, automatic transmission, an AM/FM/CD/Sat/MP3 radio, reclining seats, and seat belts?
Or were those features developed incrementally, as engineers worked to add them? Hi, I'm a computer industry software engineer, working on very large projects. Software is released in stages. And generally, software is first released in what's called a "minimum viable product," with incremental feature releases as they're developed.
Software features are ranked in levels of importance. Remember, DDB for years didn't even have containers (or rather, had one container, your inventory). Now they have the ability to indicate that a piece of inventory belongs in another piece of inventory. This is an incremental update. No, it doesn't do everything you want. But what it does do, works as indicated.
I'd also argue that the "main thing users asked for" is not an encumbrance system. In fact, I'd probably argue that most players don't care about encumbrance, unless it's glaringly obvious they're carrying something very heavy.
I wouldn't say inventory containers are even my first choice for what to implement next; I'd rather they fully flesh out the ability to create sidekicks as if they were players, allowing for level-up, feature and spell selection, inventory and action management, and even adding feats. But hey, inventory containers _is_ useful, so now that they've implemented it, I'm using it. Decluttering is awesome.
Sidekicks already exist fully realized as much as characters. They are called "A Second Character" or a "Non-Player Character".
I'm pretty confident EinherjarLucian is referring to sidekicks as found in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and those sidekick rules have not been "fully realized" here on DDB. There are workarounds using homebrew monsters, but we are still waiting on a system to truly build sidekicks according to the rules in Tasha's.
If you hate it so much, don't use it.
The thing is:

Yes, it is planned. Not yet in development.
