It's really sad to see people falling for/into a system that is both a cash-grab by WotC and Hasbro, disregarding the original purpose, intent, and investment of the platform. People who already had 5e books had to repurchase them here, and now the thing they paid for is being stripped down and gutted to make way for something that is clearly intended to be folded into a virtual tabletop/video game format.
What really blows me away is that WotC didn't even learn anything from what people loved about BG3 - Larian fixed so many of the issues with 5e (including Ranger, which continues to get screwed in 5.5). Obviously people are allowed to play what they want and have their opinions - it's just a shame when they align with a soulless corporate campaign to make even more money after laying off so many of their staff.
Pretty clearly a massive middle finger to your clientele. “Getting refunds for spells” is just shameless pandering and missing the point. We are your customer base. We don’t care about you as a company. We care about the product we’ve been playing since before you heavily commercialized it. There’s very clearly no reason to get rid of this content other than to have us buy more of it. It’s embarrassingly obvious.
I'm very disappointed that there hasn't been any response to all of this negative feedback. There should be something official from them in reply.
I did message LaTiaJacquise with my feedback and in her reply she mentioned she's collecting feedback. While I know it's a not her decision so her hands are tied, I'm hoping that also indicates we'll get some official responses (and hopefully reversals) at some point.
Hopefully this is a case of someone that was told, "No. This is a horrible idea. Why would you do this? Why won't you listen to us?" getting a bit of a comeuppance to create a reversal. With WotC having shown their hand, I'm not the most optimistic. But I can hope.
I just tried to go in and post homebrew copies of spells, races, and magic items. I keep getting a 404 error when i post anything. So no, we can't even do their work for them.
I remember during the OGL days that some people had their accounts deleted. I respect that level of commitment. Anyone here planning on having accounts deleted?
Nope, no more than I would destroy anything I own to make a point when I disagree with someone. Now if wizbro allowed selling accounts that would be a different story highest bidder would get my password and I woul walk away, but since it isn't an option and I have so much sunk I will ride this particular horse into the ground and beat it for a few years after that.

While I'm sure she's doing what she can, she collected and forwarded feedback about a la carte too and WotC never bothered responding, so I wouldn't get your hopes up. WotC clearly aren't interested in communicating with their customers.
3+ year subscriber here, DM of several games and someone with over 100+ fully-made characters on the site. I almost never post due to RL being incredibly busy, but this planned change has earned my ire.
I'll make it plain to DDB's staff (and Wizards/Hasbro folks over them listening in) - if you make this change happen, I'm out. I don't care how much of a pain in the ass it's going to be going back to pen and paper, or porting everything over to R20, but if it means I'm not giving you any more money, then it's worth it out of spite.
I need DDB to be a tool that I can rely on, make characters in, and then come back to them a year, two years later, pop open a character sheet, and have them ready to go. If you want to make the 5.5E (or whatever we're calling it) accessible, that's fine - if it's opt in. If you force it on people, and screw up the tool we're counting on to run our games, you're undermining your whole business premise.

Yep. I'm aware. And if she learned about this change at the same as us, like with a la carte removal, I really pity the position she's in right now since I'm guessing there's been a lot of angry messages thrown her way too.
No, I still have many sourcebooks and adventures on my account and I will use them as I see fit for digital reference. I did unsubscribe from Master Tier though.

I've done the same myself - unless they add legacy spells and magic items I see no reason to resubscribe.
I canceled my subscription when they reneged on bundle discounts stacking with sales and have been waiting to see if they actually rolled that back as stated, now this. It's like wizbro only opens it's mouth to change the foot that is in there. SMH.

This is the problem with purchasing digital content, you don't really control it even though you paid for it.

So there is nothing stopping current dndbeyond users from creating homebrew versions of all spells just putting (2014) and the spell name?
Doesn't that mean dndbeyond is just outsourcing the work of creating legacy copies of spells onto its users?

Unsubscribed from Master Tier. I'll be happy to resubscribe when Legacy Spells are implemented without needing to use Homebrew.
