How soon you could start play: Whenever the game is ready to start
Your experience with 5 edition D&D: 4 years, about even PbP vs. "Live"
Your character concept: Rus is a Neutral Good Firbolg Ranger (Swarmkeeper).
Dragonflies crawl and buzz around Rus giving off a rustling sound which is how he came by his human nickname. As he first ventured out into the outer lands, he tried to explain to the few he came to trust that he did not have a "name" in the same sense that most folks are use to. But as those few got to know him and spend time near him, they noticed a slight rustling sound from the dragonflies and nymphs that swarmed about when he was around. They kept asking, "Do you hear that rustling?" And soon he earned the nickname “Rus”.
Rus is a bit of a loner, even among his own, but deeply connected to the rhythm of the earth mother. Though uncomfortable in the outerlands, Rus has been tasked with a mission for his tribe. A mission to help heal his homeland.
Deep in the forest swamp that Rus calls home, his tribe has lived quietly for so many generations it is difficult even for a Firbolg to contemplate. But lately, the forest seems… sick. The elders are concerned and whatever is causing this issue has yet to be identified by the tribal masters. The community was abuzz with talk of the problem. Russ tracked his grand uncle one night to an elder council meeting where he overheard the elders discussing sending emissaries into the outerlands to search for clues or tales of such sickness as they were seeing in their forest. Leaning in to hear as much as he could, the softw peat of the ground gave way a bit and Rus lost his footing, falling headfirst into the circle of elders. He quickly brushed himself off, blushed a bit and began to retreat when one of the elder mothers grabbed his wrist and pulled him back into the circle. All agreed, someone with such qualities could do well in the outerlands and tasked Rus with going out into the world. This mystery was new to their home, but something about it seemed “old”. They hoped that some cure or magic could be found that would help them heal their beloved forest.
I already submitted one character, but I had an idea for a second one.

Your experience with 5 edition D&D: Just started my first PbP campaign. Experience with 5E in solo campaigns since 3 years give or take. (About 3 years experience with DnD 3.5 with friends many years back.)
Your character concept: Bandoor Chalev is a Bard that has lived for most part of his life with dwarves in a monastery. He is en expert brewmaster and chef.
Ban's parents had immigrated to Faerun just before he was born. After only few decades it became clear to them that they did not agree well with the fast rhythm in Calimport and they didn't wish to venture out into the world. Ban on the other hand, made friends during his childhood and didn't feel out of place. He was more worried about returning to their home plane which he felt sounded far too boring. His parents left the choice to him and he decided to remain on Toril.
One of Ban's best friends was an old dwarfen brewmaster named Beryll Palestout, who also took him in as an apprentice when his parents left. A fair number of good years later (some 80), Beryll's demise changed Ban's life dramatically. He had promised to return Beryll's remains to his hometown in the East Rift: Eartheart, which proved to be a really long, costly and dangerous journey. He had to sell their business and leave Calimport for good in order to afford the expedition, which fortunately went well. It turned out that Beryll has been a priest in a monastery of the Drunken Master! Not knowing any better place to be Ban remained at the Drunken Master monastery as the chef. He tried to be involved in the monastery training but he just couldn't, everything was too fast or needed too much coordination. He did, however, show great prospect in motivating the monks for their training. In his capacity as chef and brewmaster he studied the history of brewing and the extent of natural ingredients, learned a wealth of new recipes and even tried a few times to create his own.
When the monastery learned that the Death Curse that plagued the world would have its origin in Chult (some 110 years after Ban's arrival), it was decided that someone of the community should participate in the efforts to rid Toril of it, not only to aid the world at large, but also to use the opportunity to explore the jungles of Chult for extremely rare ingredients. Most prominently, Raptor Horn salt could potentially be used as an agent to ferment more efficiently, in addition to other benefits it might provide to the taste. And there are numerous other natural essences that have been lost or inaccessible for far too long. Not to mention those that still have to be found! Someone needed to go. It was an easy choice that one of them should be Ban. After all Chult is just a little bit East of his home town of Calimport, and he already journeyed that way once, so he probably knows the way best anyway. Ban wasn't so sure but he didn't know how to argue against it. And, perhaps, he really was one of the best option they had. Certainly, he would be able to learn a lot and he could try new food and ponder over new recipes.
Unfortunately, his journey back to Calimport was not as smooth. His party got ambushed by Drow and he was taken prisoner. Since then, and he has no idea for how long it has been, he is forced to tend to the gladiator kitchen and prepares food, if one wants to call it that, for the slaves. He knows that his creations are often last meals and he tries to prepare them as good as he possibly can with the few and scarce ingredients available.
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Sorry for the delay and lack of communication for the last few days. My daughter had to have some oral surgery and has been recuperating. Between that, New Year's, getting back into work this week, etc. I haven't had a chance to look over things. Should have some time to get ready by this upcoming weekend if not sooner.
this sounds like a style of campaign I could really get into! I love puzzles and problem solving, as well as RP. Would be honored to be considered even though this is a late submission.

Your character concept: “Moko” Goblin fartraveler wizard
Moko only knew one thing: survival… but oh how survival took its myriad forms across a lifetime. Born during the years of famine to a band of goblins that were roaming across the lands, Moko was left to starve when they there were a few weeks of particularly harsh conditions. But whether by luck or fate he survived.
Found by a wizard who had a particular almost dr. Moreaux style fetish for collecting beasts of burden, Moko was taken in as both adopted child and servant, depending on your vantage point. A new world of strange caged and summoned beings, arcane artifacts and tomes where Moko’s new world. While others were caged he was free to roam, provided he served the desires of Eldwind unconditionally. Fetching was his main mission, and Eldwind called him “fetch” for many years…
but Moko knew survival was the key, and made it a mission to teach himself all the tools he could to survive. He started with the simplest spells like message and move earth, disguise self being his particular favorite trick. And then one day he found himself being told to go fetch a rare component for a spell from deep in the woods at the foothills to the west. Realizing he may never return, as the chance for danger was high in crossing o many borders, he resolved to prioritize survival over return, though he wasn’t against the idea. He took a spell book and a rudimentary component pouch from Eldwind’s collection, (he would never notice them missing in his vast library and dungeons) and hit the road with a suspicion of death or never returning.
In the first town he passed though, when asked his name, he stuttered to avoid saying fetch, blunting out Moko while thinking ‘magic’. But what a rush! To have given himself a name! To be somebody! He tingled all over for days with an excitement that stayed with him for weeks.
….
now surviving on the road and become a traveler far and wide for many months, Moko one afternoon fell asleep unassumingly under a beautiful summer breeze , only to be awoken by shackles and at pike-point. Hungry and biding his time for a chance for escape, Moko now investigates the cells their weaknesses, the guards and their rotations, as well the other inmates and their skill sets.. Some day soon will come a window of opportunity, and Moko will not let that chance to survive this horror and return to life pass him by.
(would love to edit and change this to better fit your campaign, but for now this was the vibe I came up with. Timid, polite, curious, uses magic to problem solve as opposed to injure as priority (for now at least) and generally neutral good (perhaps with a more freedom and individualistic definition of ‘good’))
*** also considered a deep gnome or harengon (small race is the vibe for this RP) if goblin doesn’t work as well for the beginning set up ***

Your character concept (you don’t have to have it fully built yet) with a short backstory (maybe about what you might have been doing when you were captured by slavers): Shoowaa was from a clan that was more known for mischeviousness than harm, but it was near a developing town. Unfortunately the town did not like that the clan was there and was raided. Shoowaa was seperated from his parents and clan at a very young age, and even now is fearful of humans, worried that they may finish the job. He had to set out on his own, away from his tribe and into the woods where he found a half human half horse. At first, scared of the massive creature, but calmed down once the centaur showed it was not going to harm him. By the centaur he became an apprentice and had a home out in the woods away from the humans and civilization. There the centaur showed him how to speak his language, sylvan and took him deeper in the woods to get him closer to nature and some other fey creatures. From the fey creatures he spent loving thier mystical and magical ways, entrhalled by thier magic. He was taught by one of the creatures how to replicate a tiny portion of thier magic, making him feel giddy about knowing how to take command over plants and to communicate with beasts. Over one night he suddenly grew a tail, which he freaked out by and left in a hurry, trying to flee from the situation but it is unfortunally attached to him and while he was away by a nearby pond to try to calm down he was suddenly kidnapped by tall odd looking elves and he woke up in a dark place.
Character Name: Shoowaa

I read the OP again closely, and found it inspired me to create a new character that will better stand the trials ahead: wizard without spell book is better implemented as a sorcerer, focused on functional spells that don’t require complicated materials and at best only verbal and somatic components.

argon was wandering, just like the day before, and the day before that, and all the way back to the incident two years ago when he met the plagued one, or was it the plagued ones? he didnt remember, he hadnt eaten all day and probably wouldnt for the rest of it either, life was hard for those without money. at least the rat plague hadnt got him like it got some of the other urchins, and he didt have to worry about gettingit, he was never affected by diseases, a gift from his possible benefactor that allowed him to eat what he found, well... mostly, some of it was too far gone. he turned to talk to the rat that was always shadowing him and instead found a small crossbow bolt, with his face, he could feel the poison entering his veins but that didnt matter, what did was he had accidentally gotten in the way of an assassination of someone more important, he heard voices talking in an unknown language that sounded almost elven, ah it was probably about the poison, it didnt matter, he hoped the rat got away though, he got hit by 3 more bolts and everything went black.
This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Your character concept (you don’t have to have it fully built yet) with a short backstory (maybe about what you might have been doing when you were captured by slavers)
From a young age, Kisiki was quick to understand how to hunt and survive and how the cycle of life and death worked. He often sat in in his swampy home, half submerged in water, completely still, contemplating how the world worked. This is how he gained his name; Kisiki means "Stump" in Draconic. As he grew older he began to manifest signs that their goddess had blessed him for his primodial intuition; he could control magic which proved he had her favor - the ability to speak with and command animals, for instance.
He was not a particularly good leader, and no one particularly liked him, but he DID have an undeniable connection to their goddess, and that was paramount in his ascension to become the tribe's shaman, their spiritual leader. As shaman, he often made personal visits to the nearby Wood Elf colony, where he learned their language and traded in the secrets of the world, as well as mundane crafted goods to supplement his tribe's food supplies.
One night when he was visiting this colony, a Drow surface raid appeared from the night and slaughtered the entire population of Wood Elves. Kisiki, not the target of the Dark Elves' ancient vendetta, was "lucky" enough to be captured and enslaved instead. He finds himself now in the lightless realm of the underdark, stripped of his talisman that gave him contact with his goddess. As a pragmatist and survivalist, he is prepared to work with these other unfortunate souls to escape this terrible fate.
((I vaguely understand the premise of this adventure, and his hook for remaining in the Underdark would be to fight whatever unnatural evil is brewing, because his goddess is starkly opposed to anything unnatural.))

There were a lot of awesome applications. You made picking a final party difficult. I'm sending out invites via private message. Once I hear back and get the party confirmed, We'll get started with the game. I'm going to give it a try to host the game on here. If that doesn't seem to be working, we can migrate it to discord.
This was a recruiting post to put a party together to play this campaign. We finished recruiting and started a few days ago. This post is no longer active.
D&D is an awesome game. I hope you find an opportunity to play soon. In the play by post forum, open games will have the "recruiting" tag. You should look through the LFG (looking for game) forum if you're looking for an online game.
