"Flower understands Friend White-Eyes and Friend Thunder-Tongue and Friend Warrior. Sign was like the straw people farmers put up in their fields to scare away crows. She does know what they are called. She knows lots of other things though."
(OOC: Sounds like the rest of us are waiting outside the cave while Tyrael scouts?)
(OOC: Oops. Didn't see there was a page 17 was responding to end of page 16)
Flower stood alert, bow at the ready, looking around outside the cave mouth, awaiting Tyrael's report. Then she follows the others in.

If the group is determined to advance, Jairus offers, "I'll go with whoever wants to poke their heads in, in case there's traps or something, I'd just need a source of light. Unless someone who has night eyes wants to creep on in, in the dark, alone."

Jairus bends down to examine the corpse, rolling it over gently. He notices no sign of plague whatsoever, but does notice some odd cuts and bruises. Some appear to have been caused by magic, and most appear to have happened after its death. The body seems to have been dead for a while as well, and is partially decomposed.
As he examines it, its eyes suddenly flicker open. Two hollow, rotten eyes stare back at Jairus, and then he grabs at you.
(No surprise round or anything. The zombie is lying down in a 20 foot wide part of the passage, it narrows to 10 feet right behind him. The two of you are about 70 feet away from the opening and the rest of the party (which would hear the sounds of combat). You're both next to the zombie unless Tyrael moved somewhere else. I'm working on init currently.)

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Muttering an oath, Tyrael draws his sword and sweeps it across the zombie's body in one swift movement. He'll circle around the body so as not to obstruct the view of anyone further down the passageway.
Attack: 15 / damage: 12

Looks like the Zombie is up - as Tyrael is engaged in melee Jairus will attempt to land a sneak attack, assuming it doesn’t move.

On her turn Flower will hear the commotion and come running bow drawn and loose an arrow into the zombie if it is still active. If it has been dispatched before she gets there she just lowers her bow.

In her rush to assist her new friends, Flower trips over an uneven spot in the cavern floor. Her shot goes wide. As she gets up she chastises herself internally.
{Foolish like a kitten. Caves are not Flower's native terrain. In the meadows this would not have happened. She should not have rushed in. She had plenty of range on her bow. Could have, WOULD have easily dispatched the dead-not-dead person threatening her friends. Foolish.}
OOC: It likely isn’t relevant but Jairus would not have moved out of the threatened reach, not wanting to provoke an attack of opportunity, but he would have repositioned your ensure he is not offering cover to the zombie. Probably mainly for flavor, but he has some situational and tactical awareness.

"I guess we're going in, then? Signs ain't the boss of me," Jairus says. "If they made up a plague just to be left alone that's pretty scummy."

You can make it to the dead body no issue (both of you, if that's what you decide). You still can't tell what killed it without further examination.
Further down, the passageway ends in a ledge, about 10 feet tall. You can't see anything past it, or on the ledge itself.

Jairus will make a layman's best guess at what killed the body, rolling Medicine untrained: 15

OOC “Un-Dead” always sounded like a poor description of “alive.”

The zombie gets up slowly, and swings its cumbersome arm at Tyrael.
Attack: 9 Damage: 3
He misses, Tyrael being much too quick for him.
Flower moves into the cavern to help her friends, and shoots a wall very helpfully.

(OOC: well s**t. That attack roll is a natural 1)
Jairus attacks twice with the hand crossbow, once as a bonus action with crossbow master:
1st attack: 11
2nd attack: 16
Piercing damage, all
1st attack weapon damage 8
-additional sneak attack damage to 1st attack 5
2nd attack weapon damage 8
Lasair approaches the zombie using her staff to attack two handed: 11 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Damage 3
Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
(The zombie is about 70 feet away, you can't get into melee range without dashing.)
Save: 7
The zombie barely manages to hold on to life, it's falling apart at the seams.
