RELEASE NOTES
The Wild Beyond the Witchlight takes adventurers from the Witchlight Carnival to Prismeer, a Feywild domain of delight. Time has not been kind to this realm, however, and dark days lie ahead unless someone can thwart the dastardly schemes of the Hourglass Coven!
BACKGROUNDS
This adventure introduces two new backgrounds, The Feylost and Witchlight Hand. Both of these backgrounds are fully supported.
RACES
This adventure presents two brand new races; the Fairy and the Harengon. Both of these races are fully supported and include new rules for Races as part of building your character.
Ability Score Increases & Languages are no longer racial traits - you still get to select the ASI and languages that you want for your character, but this is separate from the traits of the race you select. When you first select one of these races, you will see the following:
This is to reflect the new rules presentation for Races. Instead of Ability Score Increases and Languages being tied to your selected race, they're now more tightly integrated into your character themself. There are still unique racial traits, but Ability Score Increases and Languages have been moved elsewhere in the builder.
Ability Score Increases can be found on the Ability Scores page itself - so you no longer have to worry about flipping back and forth in the builder. Here's what it looks like:
While Languages can now be found on the Description page - and look like this:
We hope that this helps to streamline the Character Builder a bit more and helps maximize your enjoyment! This feature is currently live for anyone that selects the Fairy or Harengon race, as well as the Lineages from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft.
The following information for Magic Items and Monsters will be presented in spoiler sections, as some of the information here should only be seen by a DM - we don’t want to accidentally ruin someone’s game of D&D with spoilers!
MAGIC ITEMS
UPDATED MAGIC ITEMS
Eight existing magic items have received updates in this sourcebook:
There are a number of new magic items presented in this book. Two of them are worth noting with regards to how they function on the character sheet:
Snicker-snack. This weapon states that you may use your Charisma modifier instead of your Strength modifier for attack and damage rolls. Please be aware that you must be attuned for this property to work - and that the character sheet will take the higher of the two values.
Witchlight Vane. This wondrous item states that it can be wielded as a +3 Mace. In order to use it as a Mace, ensure that the character has the item equipped and attuned to. Please note that the additional 1d8 radiant damage will not be rollable on the character sheet.
MONSTERS
ALIGNMENTS
The Wild Beyond the Witchlight introduces a brand new array of alignments for monster stat blocks:
Typically Chaotic Evil
Typically Chaotic Good
Typically Chaotic Neutral
Typically Lawful Evil
Typically Lawful Good
Typically Lawful Neutral
Typically Neutral
Typically Neutral Evil
Typically Neutral Good
Many of the new monsters (and ones that have been updated, as below) utilize this new alignment system. Furthermore, these alignments are available to you in the Homebrew creator should you wish to utilize them yourself.
UPDATED MONSTERS
Eight monsters received updates in this sourcebook:.
Boggle. Alignment has been updated. Several actions have been moved to the Bonus Actions section of the stat block. Updated description text.
Bullywug Royal. Alignment has been updated. Changed from Medium humanoid (bullywug) to Medium Humanoid. Various aspects of the statblock has been updated to be in line with this source. Updated description text.
Darkling Elder. Alignment has been updated. It no longer uses a shortsword - instead using a scimitar that has had its additional damage adjusted. New image.
Darkling. Alignment has been updated. its Dagger damage has been adjusted from additional piercing damage, to additional necrotic damage. New image.
Korred. Alignment has been updated. It's spells have been changed, it no longer has Stone's Strength, and it's Command Hair has been moved to the Bonus Action part of the statblock.
Quickling. Alignment has been updated. Blurred Movement and Evasion have both had their text updated and clarified.
Redcap. Alignment has been updated. Its AC has been updated.
Tree Blight. Alignment has been updated. Its HP has been adjusted, its Bite is now a Bonus Action that can attack creatures its grappled.
NEW MONSTERS
Witchlight Hand. This monster is presented in the book as having two distinct sizes (Medium and Small), with differing HPs between the two sizes. As we have no method of presenting this for a single statblock, we have created two statblocks: Witchlight Hand (which represents Medium), and Witchlight Hand (Small). Each statblock reflects the appropriate HP for use within the Encounter Builder and Combat Tracker.
CHARMS AND OTHER BOONS
Throughout your travels in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, there will be many magical effects and charms that can be awarded to characters. We are currently unable to support these - but intend to with the forthcoming Universal Feature System.
ROLEPLAYING CARDS and STAGEFRIGHT'S LINES
Appendix D and appendix E are designed as sheets that can be photocopied for use at the table.
For D&D Beyond, we have presented this content in multiple forms:
Accessible web format. In each of these chapters, the content is presented in a manner that can be easily read via browser or mobile device and is also in an accessible format for screen readers.
Downloadable format. At the bottom of each chapter you can find a section labelled "Printable Images" - here you can download the pages as JPG images that can be printed.
Notes: Corrected Bullywug Royal having a new image.
I do not have the wild beyond the witchlight yet but i do have curse of strahd and i can see the update in the statblock of the tree blight. Is that intended or is it a bug?

thanks for the answer in advance
That's intended. If the creature was in another book (or other product) that you own on the site and is updated in a new release, you get the changes from owning the original.

This is intended - it is considered a rules update to previously existing content.
I'm reading the Digital version of WBW and I can't find any of the maps that are talked about? Neither the Carnival nor the Prismeer "Poster" maps that are referred to in the text multiple times.
I am also reading the digital version of WBW. I see the carnival map under “Witchlight Carnival” then under the heading of “Carnival Overview.” It has a blue and golden border and at the top says “Welcome to the Witchlight Carnival.”
The Prismeer map is on the page “Hither,” under the “Prismeer Overview” heading.

I’m not sure if this is a misprint or WOTC just forgot to actually detail it but in the last paragraph of this item https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/scissors-of-shadow-snipping it states a creature who has its shadow removed is cursed, but doesn’t provide details of any curse.
Not sure if its a bug with Witchlight, or Warlocks, but making a Fairy Warlock, and its not giving me any of my level 1 spells / spell slots.
For clarity, it lets me CHOOSE level 1 spells in the builder, but on my character sheet only the Pact Boon spells (Pact of the Tome) are showing in my first level spells. Otherwise, the first level spells I chose aren't there, and it doesn't have any check boxes for spell slots.
Snicker-snack is applying the "attack with Charisma" to all magic weapons, not just itself.
Edit: Is there any way to completely move a racial ASI/Languages trait to the Abilities/Description pages for older or homebrew races? The official ones have them in both places (intentional, I assume), but how can we do it for homebrew ones? I am having Languages show up in both places for my homebrew races, but ASI only shows up on the Race page.

Hi there,
I just created a fairy warlock and everything seems to be correct! Please note that the Fairy racial trait Fairy Magic, only grants faerie fire once the character reaches 3rd level, and enlarge/reduce when the character reaches 5th level. A 1st level character would not have these, but does have the druidcraft cantrip.
If you feel there is an issue with your character, please provide a link to the character here and I will take a look.

I'm looking at Snicker-snack now to see what we can do to resolve that.
With regards the ASI/languages query - we hope to have some additional information available for homebrewers on how this functions soon.
I'm trying to create a new character with one of the new races and it's not showing up as an option. I can see the race both in its book and on the races section of the rules. The filters for selecting a race do not include TWBTW.
Do you own the full content, or just the compendium?
No doubt you are already aware, but figure it's good to report anyhow: The ASIs can be stacked to a combined +3 (or +2 or +3 when picking the +1/+1/+1 option) just like custom origin ASIs.

Hi there! Thanks, and yes, this is known and something I am trying to get addressed. 😊
Minor formatting thing, but Pollenella the Honeybee has such a short sheet that the ability scores appear in column two, but the heading for each one (STR, DEX, etc) appears in column one.
