So i have a player in a campaign of my that wants to voice a character from his backstory, and that is character is one of the BBEGs ( big bad evil guy).
I've tried asking a DM friend of mine who has more experience DMng than i do, and she said it would be a fun idea, but they didn't elaborate further than that?
By 'voice' you mean he's going to provide the BBEGs voice when he's talking to the PCs? Having a player provide a voice for an NPC can be fun, but I'd prefer voicing someone else's backstory character, because it's inconvenient having the same person playing both sides of a conversation, so you want an NPC who's not that likely to get into a conversation with that player's PC.
Alright. thanks for the reply, and i know i probably should just have just went with just saying no in the first place, but i wanted to make sure this was the correct decision.
Going to post my assumption first that by "voice" he's not reading a script but rather actually making RP decisions for that character.
I think there's a lot you could do with this. If the guy is obviously bad, you could let the player go on with it thinking that he's a bad guy. But then you do the old twist where there's another bad guy pulling the strings that even dupes the player's bad guy. This leaves the true BBEG under your control and gives the player some interesting opportunities on how "his" bad guy responds to being manipulated.
Letting players have a bit more control over the world can be a lot of fun, but something as integral to the conflict of the story as a primary villain should be firmly under your control IMO.

No. Players don't get to play their own BBEG. The DM plays them.
