So I finally figured out what was going wrong. I was missing a step. You type it in as detailed in the FAQ. Go back out to the item description, and it shows up. It does not show up under the edit screen. I was typing it in under the edit screen, looking for it to show up in the edit screen and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t showing up.
So my question is, Staff of Power adds spells to my character's spell list as always prepared and that carries over to Avrae (for certain spells, like cone of cold, which my character does not know), why can we not make magic items that do the same? Add always prepared spells so Avrae can use it I mean.
Well, technically Subclasses & Species #s 1, 3, 5, 11, 14, 15, 17, & 19 all got minor updates to the language to transition from “Race” and “Subrace” to “Race/Species” and “Subrace/Subspecies,” but it was #9 that got a real update to add an example of everything combined at the end.
I was wondering if I could get some help in regards to something similar to this from the FAQ: How can I adjust or add to a base class feature? I am creating a homebrew subclass and have been able the use of snippet codes associated from other classes with similar abilities. Unfortunately, I have hit a wall. I don't know how I would snippet/input for a capstone ability that improves and replaces a lower leveled ability. I tried looking at the Paladins aura abilities that they have and how it increases in size at later level, but couldn't figure how I would implement it for the subclass. To be clear, my problem is a lower level homebrew subclass feature that gets improved and replaced by the higher level capstone feature. Hopefully, that means there could be a way to do what I'm trying to do. Any help would be much appreciated and happy regardless of the outcome.
Also, I am recreating the Order of the Vampire subclass for Blood Hunter created by Sir Billiam. However, they created the subclass before the Blood Hunter was revamped (ha, re-vamp, like vampire, ha), so, the class is labeled archived and doesn't show up on the subclasses for Blood Hunter (also, tried turning on the noncore option, didn't work). Not trying to publish or steal credit just wanted to be able to use the homebrew, since its far better than the other attempts that people have made.
Sincerely,
YggdrasilPaladin
P.S. Hopefully I haven't offended anybody. Have an ability to do that without know I've done it. Also, seen the Key & Peele Text Message video and understand how people can read with two different tones.

Well, for your first question regarding the improved subclass feature, there are two ways you might be able to do it depending on what exactly it is you want to improve/replace about the lower level feature. Snippets don’t actually “do” anything, they just display calculated or entered information. To actually “do” something you need either Actions or Modifiers, or you might even need to attach those Actions or Modifiers to various Options within the class feature. So, those improvements you want might be something you can program into the lower level feature and then the higher level feature would just be plain text. Alternatively, if you really are just using snippets and not Actions or Modifiers, then there is a trick to replace the lower level feature, but it might not make you happy. So really, it’s just a matter of what exactly you are trying to accomplish.
In regards to using snippets, I was under the impression that you had to write the code in conjunction with the Action or Modifiers. Otherwise, what I want on the character sheet and in the class feature page of the "Create a Character" will not work/appear. I will say, I don't remember the Actions being a part of the create a homebrew, but I haven't created anything since Spring of 2021.
Happy to know that I could place the improvements into a lower level feature and just use the plain text for when the features level requirement is met, like how the Paladin's Aura radius expands at a higher level but is coded when they originally get the Aura.
Yes, that is the homebrew that I am attempting to recreate.
Yes, the snippets will display the info, but it requires the Actions & Modifiers to actually affect anything else. Also, when it comes to some of the things that scale at higher levels, don’t forget the “Level Scaling” sub field.
What spell are you attempting to tooltip?

Ahhhaha. Yeah, no, it doesn’t show up in the edit screen so you can edit them. But I’m glad you got it figured out!

I have no idea. I don’t use discord, so I know nothing about avrae. 🤷♂️

9 or 19?
Paladin main who spends most of his D&D time worldbuilding or DMing, not Paladin-ing.

Ah. I see. Somehow I thought your update post said “added” instead of “updated”

Is there a way to remove a spell list from a subclass (i.e. remove the druid's given spell list) and add my own custom list?
Nope, you can add but not subtract.
