Hi there! I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but I can't figure this out.
I made a race using the dragonborn as a templet. I got everything how I would like it and it is looking good on the character sheet etc, except for one thing. I thought I deleted all of the "Blue dragon, grey dragon, gold dragon" information out. When I look at all the levels of customization there is no text concerning these other types of dragons anywhere but on the character sheet under "racial feets" it is showing a massive list of all the dragon types under the breath weapon and natural armor. In the homebrew creator I can't see those at all, only on the character sheet.
I have waiting 30+ minutes, made sure that everything on the homebrew creator pages is saved and they are still there. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!!!
Are you sure that you deleted all the Options attached to the Draconic Ancestry, Breath Weapon, and Resistance traits? Did you then re-save the whole race again?
I just double checked again to be sure, and they are deleted and I have saved the race as a whole multiple times just to make sure I am covering all my bases haha. My only thought is that maybe I just copy all the work into a new class totally started from scratch? I just hate to loose all the work modifying things if I am just being dumb ya know? haha. Thanks again!
Hmmm…. You’re the second person I’ve seen today with the same issue related to a homebrew based off of the Dragonborn. I would just wait a few days to see if something they’re working on on the back end gets cleared up.
I accidently lied and I have one more question for you. The "breath weapon" for this dragonborn is kind of like a charm effect. And I am wanting to make it a WIS save equal to your spell save DC. "Once per short rest as an action, you exhale a puff of euphoric gas in a 10 foot cone in front of you. Each creature in the area must make a Wisdom saving throw equal to your spell save DC. On a failed save the target cannot take reactions, and at the beginning of each of it's turns must roll 1d6 to determine it's actions on that turn."
Is this even possible? And if so, how do I notate that in the homebrew setting?
Sorry for so many questions, but I appreciate your help!
No worries, I’m happy to help. Since there is only the one breath weapon, you could make three Options attached to the trait, one for each of the three spellcasting abilities, and let the player choose the correct one.
Hmmm that might be the easiest way. So I would go: racial trait - breath weapon - add option - action - and then would ability score and save type be the same?
As far as power goes, right now I have it as a 10ft cone. But I have played around with having it just be one single target within a 10ft range. Does that have a better balance, or does it still feel to strong?
I am experimenting with a Faerie Dragon Dragonborn. I am honestly "stealing" and making little modifications from the monster in the monster manual. I am hoping that it will have some synchronicity with casters like bards or illusionists who focus more of battle field control, but give them a way to escape if someone gets too close. so instead of using your breath weapon offensively in a battle, you can use it for defense if someone tries to get in your face. Puff them with this "charm" breath so you can escape. OR use it in a stealth/social interaction way to sneak up on a guard and breath on them to incapacitate them and sneak past.
Ultimately I am really wanting to make it as balanced as possible. I don't like it when things feel massively over or underpowered. I want it to be fun and helpful but not game breaking in anyway.

You would do Racial Trait: Breath Weapon. Then, you would add the following three Options:
Option: Intelligence->Action: Euphoric Breath with Int as the ability score and make the save a Wis save like you wanted.
Option: Wisdom->Action: Euphoric Breath with Wis as the ability score and make the save a Wis save.
Option: Charisma->Action: Euphoric Breath with Cha as the ability score and make the save a Wis save.

Are you using the same table as the faerie dragon? How long does the breath’s effect last?
If I were making a Fairie Dragonborn, this is how I would do it to start and see where it took me through playtesting:
Faerie Dragonborn
Ability Score Increases
When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.
Languages
Your character can speak, read, and write Common and either Draconic or Sylvan.
Creature Type
You are a Humanoid.
Size
You are Small.
Speed
Your walking speed is 30 feet.
Temporary Invisibility
As an action, you can magically turn invisible along with anything you are wearing or carrying until the start of your next turn or until you attack, make a damage roll, force someone to make a saving throw, or lose concentration on this trait (as if on a spell). You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Magic Resistance
You can have advantage on saving throws against spells. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Faerie Dragon Magic
You know either the dancing lights, mage hand, or minor illusion cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the color spray spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the mirror image spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast color spray or mirror image with this trait, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.
Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
Euphoric Breath Weapon
You exhale a puff of euphoria gas at one creature within 5 feet. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw with a DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus, or for a number of rounds equal to your Constitution modifier, the target can’t take reactions and must roll a d6 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior during the turn:
1–4. The target takes no action or bonus action and uses all of its movement to move in a random direction.
5–6. The target doesn’t move, and the only thing it can do on its turn is make a Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.
You can use your Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Silent Speech
You can speak telepathically with any faerie dragon within 30 feet of you.
This is great! Thank you so much this has been SO helpful!
Happy to help. I strongly expect that playtesting will show Temporary Invisibility and/or Magic Resistance will need to either be dropped or severely nerfed. (Either drop one or nerf both at the very least, if not drop both.) But that’s exactly what playtesting is for.
Right now I have invisibility included but I made it once per long rest for free as a bonus action. Any subsequent uses require using a 2nd level or higher spell slot. The hope is that it is flavorful in the kind of trickster way, but not too strong.
I hadn't thought about adding a supplemental spell list, but mostly because I am thinking about this race how I would play it, assuming no one else would really be interested HA, and most of the spells faerie dragons get I already built in the character haha. But it might be a compelling addition for classes that are not College of Glamour Bards or Illusionist Wizards like in my own brain. I am excited to have some friends help me test it and see how it feels!
Hey can anyone give me some advice on this home brew race, I originally made it in 2018 and haven't updated it since 2020, I just revamped some of the racial traits yesterday and made an updated version, if anyone would be willing to give me some feedback here’s the link for it, https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/1217316-ant-folk

This isn’t really the best thread to get feedback, it’s more for homebrewing tech support. You might find more people willing to review your homebrew for you in the general Homebrew forum.

Hi I am totally new to trying to home-brew. I don't want it to be public just for use in my campaign so I mark. it as private.
How do I give to my characters in game. I do searches and cannot find my item??
Please help.
