I'm having trouble getting spell casting to work in a subclass I'm creating based off of the Fighter class and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I clicked the Spell Casting Yes in the subclass's main information page and then went to add spells, of which only Eldritch Blast of the 8 I put in shows up on my character sheet. Also, I can't figure out a way to let players choose which spells they want when taking the subclass.
You have to give them a subclass feature named “Spellcasting”
Edit: Hold on a second, did you use the Eldritch Knight as a template, or just as inspiration? If you used it as a template, you shouldn’t need to fiddle with the settings.
Wow, thanks that worked. It turns out I named the feature Spell Casting instead of Spellcasting. I'm embarrassed it was that easy but thank you so much. And the Eldritch Knight was just for inspiration. I'm kind of driving myself crazy here because I'm handpicking particular spells across several classes to create the spell list for the Moon Knight.
We're really hoping that this will be much simpler in the next iteration of the tools - it really shouldn't need such knowledge to create your homebrew spellcasting fighter subclass!
I'm glad you got it sorted - I hope that it's awesome and you and/or others have fun playing it!
I am kinda of having the same problem I add fire ball and try to give it a level divider but it seems not to be working
What exactly are you trying to do? If you are adding Spellcasting to the whole subclass (with spells lots and everything), then you neither need to add spells individually, nor do you need to worry about level divisors whatsoever.
I added fireball and while I was adding the details I added spell levels then put the spell divder at 2 then switch to the brower I was testing the class in and leveled up to a point where the fire ball should be 3rd level
Level divisor doesn’t do that, it does something completely different. Level divisor is for learning spells from a list.
You should not need to do that at all.
There is no way to give a subclass one specific spell like that and have it automatically level up the spell with the caster unless the spell is a Cantrip.
What class is this? Have you added the Spellcasting feature to give it slots? Basically, don’t tell me what you did, since obviously what you did doesn’t do what you want it to. Tell me what exactly you are trying to accomplish and I’ll tell you if it can be done and how.
PS- This thread was for folks trying to turn a regular fighter or Rogue into a spellcaster like the Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster. Is that what you’re trying to do?

Anyone have any tips?
Thanks

I'll make sure to pay it forward and pay it back if I can by browsing the forums in case there are questions I can help with.
That’s awesome! That’s basically what I do, just try to pay it forward for the help others gave me.

instead it stayed the same
I understand what you did, but:

I am trying to let the spell level up as the character level up, its fighter-avatar nine tails (my own design)
