So I'm trying to create a subclass which grants a homebrew modifier called "Ashen Body". This modifier is "suppost" to give the player an extra 10 hit points but I can't figure out how to do it. I've set the modifier type as "bonus" and the modifier subtype as "hit points", then I set the fixed value to 10 thinking that would work, however when I make the character sheet with constitution 12, it's health comes out as 7 (base health 6) and not 17 meaning that it hasn't added the extra 10 hit points like I wanted.
I have no idea what I'm doing and it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out with this, thank you.
That modifier does not currently work. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to homebrew anything that grants an additional flat bonus to HP. You would have to make it as plain text and instruct the player to adjust it manually.
Thank you IamSposta, this clears up a lot of confusion for me and I'm both glad and amazed at how fast you replied. I hope that your able to get this feature working in the future as it would be a nice addition to home brew, however, I'm sure you have a lot more things on your plate at the moment and with how kind and compassionate you've been to everyone using this site that I'm sure that I speak for all of us when I say that we don't mind waiting one bit 😁.

Just to clarify, but the modifier actually does work, it just doesn't do what most people (including myself) naturally expect it to do. This modifier is used only for healing spells such as Cure Wounds, it's not for increasing the player's maximum hit-points.
It kind of makes sense if you think about it, or rather it doesn't make sense to add to a player's hit-points using a class/feat/race as a player's hit-points change all the time, and when you select a class/feat/race you should already be at your maximum.
What we actually want is a modifier of Bonus -> Maximum Hit-Points
The only modifier that currently lets us do something like this is the unhelpfully named "Hitpoints per Level" which is used by races like Hill Dwarfs to gain an extra 1 maximum HP per character level. But the minimum HP that this allows you to add is 20 by level 20, as the smallest (positive) fixed value you can set is 1. Personally that's what I'd use though; it's the equivalent to having +2 Constitution for calculating hit-points, which is actually quite a big deal, but means you'll get fewer bonus HP in the short term, and more long-term, so I think it balances out overall.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

Not me!! I don’t work here, I just live here. 😂 They will have to fix it. I was just in the neighborhood and stopped by to answer a question is all.
PS- But thank you for the compliment though.

A year later and still no fix. But thank god there are new features every month.
