"Let's back track and take a different path." Vethna says as she frowns at the symbol. "No reason to walk into demons if we have a warning they are ahead of us." She waits for the others to agree or disagree with her, not wishing to be the one to make the final decision if others disagree.
"Necessary for balance?" Phodoxia fumes at Kisiki. "Tell me what you'd think of a god who willingly created things that do nothing but torture, desecrate and destroy you and your people and said it was for balance." She snaps in agitation.
"Leave the symbol....and let's us leave too. We don't have the means with us to fight demons." Phodoxia jumps from one foot to the other nervously.
Kisiki replies to Phodoxia's critique of cosmic balance: "Your experience is but one leaf on a great tree. Their existence creates the need for those who only live to nurture, create, and heal."
The Lizardman also agrees with the tailed Goblin, "Yes, that it a wise choice. We do not need to move this stalagmite - deface this symbol and we will draw a new one on the path we choose to follow."
Are the two goblins with us again then? I thought they were not with the group...
Vethna has stated her opinion, I have not seen anyone else posting anything, other than a suggestion to modify the symbol, though only one of us knows how to do that, so the drow would have to respond.
Tanis is troubled by the symbol and the mention of demons. It strengthens his feeling that something deeper is going on here, with the abominations that had attacked the drow and the ooze speaking about the Faceless Lord in their heads. He is ready to move on when the party is ready, leaving it up to Petmailer and Sarith if they want to use misdirection with the symbol, and also to Sarith and the others on which way to go.
Sarith would point to it and say "The sigil is carved into the rock. How long do you want to sit here and chip away at stone? It's not like a drow scout would take the time to engrave 'the escaped prisoners went this way' into a stalagmite. I have not been this way in some time. If someone carved this warning here, they must have had a reason. We should backtrack."
The goblins were trailing about twenty feet behind everyone, but they caught up for Shoowaa caught up to suggest that the group refrain from foraging for a few days, and they also caught up to the group when they stopped at the symbol.
Phodoxia looks thoughtful at Kisiki's response. "That doesn't make sense. I think the unicorns would still find helpful things to do if there weren't demons. Like pick on thieving goblins."
She doesn't look like she likes the idea of marking their own path with demon sigils to scare off pursuit. It won't scare off demon pursuit. Who knows if it might attract them? It sounds like a bad deal to her. "Yes," she agrees, "let's just go." She'll hang back with Shoowaa at the back of the group again as the group leaves, but maybe not quite as far back, just in case.
The party travels back about a quarter of a mile to a point where Sarith directs you to a side passage. At first, you can't tell where he wants you to go. He's pointing toward an area that simply looks like a protruding shelf of rock with no exits. As you make your way deeper under the shelf, you have to get down on your stomach to crawl the last bit. Then you see that the floor opens up into a crevice. It's dark down below, but those of you with darkvision can see that there is a path that meanders down through this crack. It's a tight squeeze for Vrah and Derendil, but everyone can fit going one at a time. You make your way down 50-75 feet and the crevice opens into the side wall of a new cavern. It's about ten feet down to a shelf of rock below the opening, but those of you who are taller can hang by the edge and drop a short distance with relative ease. From there, you can help the shorter members of the party down.
To your right, there is a pool where water from somewhere high above (well beyond the distance of your darkvision) splashes. The water cascades down through a series of 4 shelfs and smaller basins until it drops into a final pool that covers about half of the floor of the cavern. The last pool looks fairly deep, but there is a path that runs around its edge. Sarith points down that way. You'll have to climb down these different levels to the floor of the cavern.
Whoever takes the lead, give me a perception check.
Petmailer agrees with the current path and continues to help Vethna in front. The tiers of pools appear beautiful to him, and he pauses briefly to appreciate it.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
This is a pretty dry cavern. No moss or plant life nearby.
Sarith will say "That is troubling. We can backtrack if you want and pick up a parallel passage. We'll lose a few hours, but it might be worth it."
"Let's back track and take a different path." Vethna says as she frowns at the symbol. "No reason to walk into demons if we have a warning they are ahead of us." She waits for the others to agree or disagree with her, not wishing to be the one to make the final decision if others disagree.
Shoowaa looks at the drow companions “Ah um can you guys make the symbol to something less threating? Or maybe we can scrape it off all together?”
"I was thinking of removing the symbol and maybe leave something for the drow to "follow" so they get to deal with the demons and not us."
Phodoxia pauses thoughtfully in mid-hop. "Why ... that doesn't sound like a terrible idea. If we could pull it off..."
What's the will of the group? Are you guys defacing the symbol, changing the symbol, backtracking to take another path?
Are the two goblins with us again then? I thought they were not with the group...

"Agreed."Vethna says with a nod. She glances to the drow. "Which way should we go?"
Sarith will lead back the way you came and head toward a side passage.

Vethna is in the lead again. Perceptions rolls are 16 if on her own, 17 if she has advantage.

Shoowaa pulls on Phodoxia's arm gently and looks at the weird creature. "You know what that is?"
