Nosam watches the arrow fly in the direction of Berry and immediately darts through the creek and thicket toward the origin. Marten’s black-fletched arrow slices through the thickets, unbelievably passing between saplings, cutting through leaves, and rebounding off of a pine trunk just a few degrees – as planned – to thunk heavily into the goblin archer. Goblin 5 grunts, is thrown off its feet backwards and falls motionless onto the rough plank behind it. [g5 is dead.](OOC: Marten enjoys half cover (+2AC) where he is positioned in the thickets. He will also receive a -2 to any attack roll while in the thickets. Unlike the goblins’ position, this is not fashioned as a kill box (Sharpshooter, I rule, has its limits).)
Kiselina charges around the thickets in time to see Marten’s arrow zip through and strike goblin 5 in the chest. The dragonborn sees the goblin go down. However, he does not see where g4, the other goblin, hid. Kiselina’s halberd flashes in the afternoon sunlight, cutting branches where he thought he saw movement, but misses the goblin completely. (OOC: Kiselina - Perception roll was not high enough to spot the goblin so your attack was at disadvantage and missed. Note that creatures which take the disengage action are not affected by Kiselina's AoO even with reach, as we will see in a moment.)
Berry shoves through the overhanging tree branches and vines, and sees Marten’s arrow connect, but is unable to spot g4. Slicing with his scimitar at the creature’s last location the fairy is unable to ferret out the enemy. (OOC: Berry cannot land at N6 because the space is already occupied by Kiselina. Berry remains 5’ above ground at N6, directly above Kiselina.)
Vidruth is unable to spot any of the goblins. He guesses at goblin 4’s location and shoots a firebolt through the thickets. He misses but sets the thickets aflame and smoke billows eastward in the direction of a slight breeze (OOC: from spell description: “A flammable object hit by this spell ignites if it isn't being worn or carried.” I decided the spell definitely hits flammable objects, the thickets, and I rolled for wind direction).
Nosam pushes through the thickets, but is unable to reach M7 because the other goblin is already in M7, as the dwarf discovers. Nosam strikes without disadvantage because he knows the goblin’s location. However, the goblin quickly raises its shield, which is however partly caught by a thicket, but Nosam’s warhammer gets caught in a branch too and all the dwarf can do is body chuck the goblin, looking cool but doing no damage. What a terrible spot for a melee!
Daphyra (OOC: I placed you at O6, where you can see all of your cohort clearly except Nosam and Marten, who are both covered by thickets.)
GOBLIN 4 disengages (bonus action for goblins) and dashes into the crag, screaming in the goblin tongue, “HELP!” (OOC: I have indicated a spot where the goblin may have ended its turn on the map below.)

Since no other goblins attacked, and the goblin ran into the cave for help, Marten figures that the area outside the cave is relatively safe. He emerges from the thicket and says, "With the rain yest'day mornin', the fire shouldn't spread too fast. If it gets bad, maybe we could use the crick water to put it out? But we gotta get inside before 'help' arrives." Marten remembers that Vidruth speaks goblin, so he uses the goblin word for 'help' there.
Marten hopes he's right, but he decides that the goblins are the more immediate danger. In particular, the cave mouth creates a terrific "choke point," and it'll be hard to get into the cave once more goblins come to defend the entrance. Marten sees Kiselina moving toward the cave and mistakenly thinks that the dragonborn is trying to take the cave entrance before the goblins muster. He jogs out into the water and wades up the creek into the goblin's cave, expecting the paladin to be ahead of him. Marten nocks an arrow and crouches down near the cave wall (on the west side) of the creek, hoping that the contrast of shadow and light near the entrance is enough to conceal him from goblins who are focused on the intruders outside.
As he enters the cave, Marten wonders whether goblins light their caves with torches or lanterns. If not, he hopes that there will at least be enough light near the entrance to see the goblins. In any case, he wants to avoid being a backlit target in the cave entrance for any goblin archers.

Daphyra: (bot #1) Daphyra holds in place, dodging.
Berry draws on his connection to the natural world, stilling the breeze where the fire is lit, calling moisture to seep up out of the ground to cool and choke the flames. In a few moments, it is snuffed out and the smoke dissipates. (OOC: regarding altitude, if Berry is shown at 5’, that means he occupies the space between 5’ - 10’. So at 5’ he is in the space above any medium-sized creature, including Kiselina.)
Kiselina moves to guard the cave entrance.
Nosam inspects the goblin body. It has a shield, cured leather armor, a short sword, a short bow, some arrows, and a small bag of stink berries it was snacking on.
Marten moves to M2, splashing in the slow current of cold, 2’ deep water. The sounds of his steps are however completely covered by the white noise echoing of the water from somewhere farther within this enclosed space. The area is quite dark, hardly any light entering from the overhanging hillside and cave entrance. Also, the creek slopes steeply upwards here, the overall shape of the space squelching reflected light from outside. To the east, in the direction the goblin fled, are a few naturally formed steps into darkness. (Marten can only see 10’ or 15' into the crag in any direction and the light is dim.)
Vidruth, following Marten, moves to M3. Vidruth can see farther up the stream, where water is splashing down an incline, and Vidruth sees the yellow eyes of three wolves immediately to the east, straining against chains. G4 is unseen and unheard by Vidruth or Marten.
Daphyra holds in place.
Enemies
Suddenly, with a snarling growl that sounds like the ripping of a huge canvas tarp, a wolf leaps out of the darkness at Marten, eyes wild. It has a collar with a metal loop for a chain around its neck, and looks gaunt but strong – intentionally starved. Its sharp fangs clap shut on Marten, 16 / damage 8 piercing. Marten must succeed on a DC11 STR save or be knocked prone under the leaping canine.
You are now situated like so.
(N.B. - those without darkvision can only see 20’ within the cave, and the light is dim. Those with darkvision can see whatever is revealed on this map within their line of sight.)

It has a collar with a metal loop for a chain around its neck, and looks gaunt but strong – intentionally starved. Its sharp fangs clap shut on Marten, 11 / damage 7 piercing. Marten must succeed on a DC11 STR save or be knocked prone under the leaping canine.
Marten tries to hide in the dim lighting and turns toward his right, crouching, but he's surprised to see not a troop of goblins but wolves. As one breaks loose and lunges into the water and jumps up at Marten, he manages to avoid wolf's bite. The wolf's teeth snapping loudly as they bite nothing but air. Unfortunately, the force of the wolf's lunge combined with the dim light, uneven footing, and flowing water cause Marten to loose his footing (STR save 2, in game log). He falls into the shallow water, gripping his bow but dropping the arrow to catch himself. He uses this mistake to try to get away from the wolf, dunking his head underwater and crawling/swimming with the current out of the cave.
Vidruth sees Marten dodge out of the way of the wolf. You don't think that he was bitten, but he splashes into the water. You feel him tap your leg under the water as he tries to move downstream. Marten's head surfaces (still prone), and as he tries to wipe his eyes clear, he shouts, "Wolves! Three starvin' wolves! Throw some food at 'em!"
Movement: Moving downstream to M14, ending his turn prone (Is the creek difficult terrain when moving downstream, too? Moving while prone costs 2:1 movement or 3:1 movement in difficult terrain. If it's still difficult terrain to move downstream, Marten uses 30' of movement to move to M14, still in the creek. If not, he'll use 30' of movement to end at M15, on the right bank of the creek.) I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
quote from Romantically Apocalyptic byVitaly S Alexius
Kiselina took up a guard position on the outside of the cave to give the group time to prepare for a breech (determine who’s first, figure out a light source, deal with the fire). He was prepared for anything coming out, he wasn’t prepared for Marten and Vidruth to rush past him as his head tilted to try and understand the rationale. He was doubly unprepared to watch Marten get dunked in the stream by a wolf and float past him. His eyes opening wide at the sight.
All the Paladin knows is that the current situation calls for immediate action or the spell-slinger might be swimming next. He moves past Vidruth. If the meal doesn’t calm the beast, he will attack the wolf, trying to shove the beast back to open up more space for the group to operate in. If he’s, successful, he’ll use his remaining movement to exit the stream, ending at the base of the steps.
(Free Action) Says a prayer, “Bahamut, keep me upright and steady on my feet!” (Move) He will move 10’ (20’ of movement) to M12 (Action) Attack wolf if still hostile after Vidruth’s feeding (To hit-25/crit, damage-9, Athletics for shove-21) (Move) Continue on to N11 if shove works, M11 if not or wolf is calmed by food (Bonus) n/a (Reaction) Attack of Opportunity
Marten: Disengage, Moving downstream to M14, ending his turn prone
Vidruth: move: n 14 / feed the[ wolf] / interact with an object: retrieve the food
Kiselina: move 10’ to M12 then M11/ attack wolf if still hostile after Vidruth’s feeding (To hit-25/crit, damage-9,)
Round 3 Results (partial)
Marten remains prone, holding his breath as he dunks underwater and, on all fours, scrambles away from the wolf, avoiding its lunging maw, and moving down the stream past Vidruth.
Vidruth attempts to feed the wolf. To no avail. The beast snarls and lunges at the half-orc’s outstretched arm, forcing him to pull back quickly. Sharp teeth slap shut in the space just vacated by Vidruth’s hand. The space Vidruth tries to move to is at this moment already occupied by Kiselina, however, Vidruth can retreat to L14. (OOC: bonus actions are defined as such. Helping Marten stand can’t be done as a bonus action.)
Kiselina moves to M12, and strikes the wolf with his halberd, slashing off one of the beast’s ears and drawing a deep, bloody line down its ribs on one side, cracking bones. The creature yelps sharply in pain, its eyes mad and frenzied. Kiselina continues his advance to M11. (OOC: the shove action can be used in place of an attack, not in addition to one. Kiselina cannot shove the wolf this turn.)
Daphyra, Nosam and Berry may still act before the enemies.
With a deep breath Berry finishes to quench the fire, when he hears Marten's warning. Kiselina had already left from underneath him and, on turning around, appears to be swinging his halberd. Do they have no shame, these goblins? Abusing wolves. Nothing else can explain these animals in their service. In a quick movement he turns around and zips after Kiselina, crying out in fury (in Giant), "Dyremishandler! Keen på min vrede!" He hovers just over Kiselina. Then, in his rage, Berry tries to push the wolf away with his shield and moves in front of Kiselina, so that he can make best use of his range. There he tries to make a stand against the wolves, ultimately, to get to that rascal of a goblin coward.
Move: M11 above Kiselina, if wolf gets pushed back, he lands in front of her (N11), otherwise he lands next to her (M12). I'm assuming that flying isn't hindered by difficult terrain. Bonus: Rage Action: Push wolf back, Athletics: (17,1)+5 Free: Cursing in Giant
Giant (used Norwegian here as Giant is inspired by Scandinavian language and culture):
Nosam grabs the loot from the g5 body and plans to sort through it later. He hears the commotion with the wolves and charges towards the ruckus. As he draws near, he watches the feeding. Unsure of how this will play out, Nosam plans a course of action IFthe wolves do not respond favorably.
(Assuming wolves are hostile) Nosam tries using his whistle to get the attention of the wolves off of Marten and onto him. He draws his crossbow a few feet from his allies and fires at the first wolf within range. "Here puppies, want some berries.." If they decide to charge, his hammer is ready.
Movement: 25'' to N13
Action: Attack wolf 1, Crossbow, light (80/320): hit 14 (11+3); damage 8 (7+1)
Bonus Action: Use the signal whistle
Free Action: Opportunity attack on wolf with hammer if within range.
(If wolves are not hostile) Nosam follows the lead of Vidruth and Marten as they prepare to advance their position.
Daphyra moves to join the rest of the party, sharing her darkvision with the party members who need it. She murmurs a short prayer, feeling an extra sense if lightness and quick thinking pass through her.
Action: Eyes of Night - Berry, Kiselina, Marten
Movement: Move to N15 between Berry and Kiselina
Free action: gives herself Vigilant Blessing (adv on next initiative roll)
Berry: Move: M11 above Kiselina, if wolf gets pushed back, he lands in front of her (N11), otherwise he lands next to her (M12) / Bonus: Rage / Push wolf back, Athletics: (17,1)+5
Nosam: Movement: 25' to N13 / Action: Attack wolf 1, Crossbow, light (80/320): hit 14 (11+3); damage 8 (7+1) / Bonus Action: Use the signal whistle
Daphyra: Eyes of Night (Berry, Kiselina, Marten) / Move to N15
Round 3 Results (cont’d.)
Berry darts down at the wolf from above Kiselina, the canine leaps up and its jaw fastens on the fairy’s shield, but with incredible muscular force for such a tiny person, Berry lifts and throws the wolf back (successfully), then lands on the natural stone steps between the wolf and Kiselina. (OOC: the wolf now enjoys ½ Cover against attacks by Kiselina, who can, however, still reach it at this distance with his halberd.)
Nosam makes it as far as M13, where, one foot in the creek and one foot on dry land, he is able to get off a shot with his crossbow without disadvantage. (OOC: I am ruling that due to the angle, the wolf does not gain half cover from Berry.) The bolt slams into Wolf 1, and with a whimper, it slams against the far wall in its death spasms. Nosam blows the signal whistle, which seems to draw the attention of the other wolves.
Daphyra moves – perhaps to N13, where she can share Nightvision with Marten, Kiselina and Berry, before retreating to N14. (OOC: you have already used your action this round, so you cannot employ Vigilant Blessing this turn. Incidentally, initiative order is already set for this combat, so you may want to save Vigilant Blessing until after this combat is over. I tried to follow the gist of your movement post, so as to allow you to share Eyes of Night as you want. If you’d rather end in a different unoccupied square within range, that is fine.)
The darkness dissipates as Daphyra’s Eyes of Night affects the others. Berry and Kiselina now see that there are three more wolves in the cave, and behind them, three goblins – including the one who fled – who have released the wolves from their chains and are yelling at the beasts in the goblin tongue, “Get ‘em!! Kill!!,” the only commands the wild canines have been trained to follow. Attacking as a pack, the wolves gain advantage on their rolls.
Wolf #2 attacks Berry! 12 to hit / 8 piercing damage. Whether or not it hits, Berry must succeed on a DC11 STR save or be knocked prone under the leaping canine.
Wolf #3 attacks Nosam!18 to hit / 8 piercing damage. Whether or not it hits, Nosam must succeed on a DC11 STR save or be knocked prone under the leaping canine.
Wolf #4 attacks Kiselina! 8 to hit / 5 piercing damage. Whether or not it hits, Kiselina must succeed on a DC11 STR save or be knocked prone under the leaping canine.
The three goblins take up their swords and shields in the back of the cave.
Berry pushes back with his shield against the leaping wolf and stands firm. Suddenly, he feels that lights go on in the cave and everything appears to be illuminated in strange greyish hues. The goblins must have started a light to see better for the battle they clearly prepare for. Still the wolves look like much greater threats, he's got to help his friends. He notices that the wolf between Nosam and Kiselina has his back towards him and he decides that that will be the best place to start. With a forceful kick against the wolves hind legs, he tries to knock it prone to create an opening for Kiselina and Nosam.
(OOC: It looks like W2 currently has total cover from Marten's current position, but Marten should be able to target W3 or W4. Since the wolves are all within 5' of other party members, I'll add Sneak Attack damage to the damage roll.)
With the fighters rushing into the cave, Marten sees that he's no longer in immediate danger from the wolves. He stands and twists around, steadying himself in the creek as he nocks another one of the goblin arrows. He sees Berry shove one of the wolves and switches his aim to target the wolf that's focused on Kiselina. As he releases the arrow, he calls out to the fighters, "How many inside?"
Nosam watches the arrow fly in the direction of Berry and immediately darts through the creek and thicket toward the origin. Using his hammer, he clubs away anything impeding his path, goblin sounds getting louder. He hears the chatter and has a solid hunch where they are, but has not made visual contact yet.
Movement: Moving to M2, if possible. (K4 - L3 - M3 - M2)
Action: Hide - Stealth 10
Bonus Action: None
Free Action: Talking to Vidruth
(OOC: uh oh. Of course, the first time Marten ends up in a really forward position, he has a really terrible stealth roll.)
Please post Round 3 actions in any order.

Movement: Moving downstream to M14, ending his turn prone
(
Is the creek difficult terrain when moving downstream, too?Moving while prone costs 2:1 movement or 3:1 movement in difficult terrain. If it's still difficult terrain to move downstream, Marten uses 30' of movement to move to M14, still in the creek.
If not, he'll use 30' of movement to end at M15, on the right bank of the creek.)Action: Disengage from the wolf
Bonus Action: None
Free Action: Shouting a warning / suggestion to the others
vidruth, following instructions speaks calmly, and throws them some of his rations (animal handling 13), he is careful to remain out of their reach while he does so. he then backs up to stand beside marten once more, reaching down to help him up.

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
quote from Romantically Apocalyptic by Vitaly S Alexius
(Free Action) Says a prayer, “Bahamut, keep me upright and steady on my feet!”
(Move) He will move 10’ (20’ of movement) to M12
(Action) Attack wolf if still hostile after Vidruth’s feeding (To hit-25/crit, damage-9, Athletics for shove-21)
(Move) Continue on to N11 if shove works, M11 if not or wolf is calmed by food
(Bonus) n/a
(Reaction) Attack of Opportunity

Giant (used Norwegian here as Giant is inspired by Scandinavian language and culture):

Nosam grabs the loot from the g5 body and plans to sort through it later. He hears the commotion with the wolves and charges towards the ruckus. As he draws near, he watches the feeding. Unsure of how this will play out, Nosam plans a course of action IF the wolves do not respond favorably.

Wolf #3 attacks Nosam! 18 to hit / 8 piercing damage.
