@Talion The envelope, on the front, simply had "Room 3"on the front.
The mist begins to get closer and is really boxing you in right now. As the mist gets closer, it seems to steal your breath and is very cold. You all begin to follow the path that is clear. If you don't want to get caught in the mist, you are forced to half jog at times, sometimes pushing yourself faster to get away from it. Several times, you think you see a large face forming from the wall of the mist behind you - smiling. As you run on, sweating despite the damp cool, at times lashes of mist shoot out and you hear growling in your ears, it seems right beside you! When you turn your head, nothing is there... Nearing the point of exhaustion, you finally come to an area where this forest seems to end. The mist remains but it feels less ominous and threatening. The path is still given to you by the mist, and as you look forward in the distance you can make out at least 3 structures: 1 tall building and 2 lesser buildings - it reminds you of some sort of manor or villa, usually lived in by rich people, that you've seen on your various travels in the world.
The road here is clear and you see this road is made of cobblestones and is well worn. It seems you are standing at a junction of sorts: to the east is the manor, behind you to the west is the forest path, and to the south the better cobbled road seems to continue. To the north there is no path. Mist blocks the south, west (behind you), and north.....
Talion pauses at the intersection, glances down at the dagger he still holds, the imaginary blood long gone, and then lifts his head and looks at eah of his companions.
"End of the road" he says, waving his arms wide to include the building.
"Welcome to the jaws of the trap...we should at least make a good accounting for ourselves that the bards..." he nods at Bertold, a faint smile playing on his lips, " -- perhaps not this one -- can sing about."
"I would gladly be doing so if I still had my parchment to makes notes on as this is not the best quality. But I suppose for now it will do it I shall be able to compose something from memory soon enough." Bertolt says as he pulls his lute from his back and looks ready to move ahead.
"Well the manor seems to be our destination. Shall we venture forth?"
Erven makes sure that Bertolt has the parchment, ink and pen from the body. “Let’s proceed to the manor and check in, I believe that room 3 is available.” He keeps his whip at the ready and moves east toward the manor....
Sho Zuan holds a fist to the side of his mouth, hiding a smile that is amused by Talion's ill-timed joke. Chased by the haunting mist, they paused and jogged, finally stopping in front of an eerie mansion. Sho Zuan looks out in the direction of the distant estate, the luxurious architecture waiting silently for them in the shadowy fog. “We shall,” he answers.
Following his companions, Sho Zuan glanced down at the sacred emblem he held in his left palm. Vecna's eyeball glazed over in hunger and pain, wailing silently. His fingers clenched anew, closing the eye for his Lord. The accident, the mist, the path, it all seems too much like a delicate pretence planned to destory them, and he places his faith fully upon where it leads them.
In response to Erven's expectant look, Talion unhooks the large pouch he took earlier, removes the coin pouch from it, and hands the large one to Berolt. "I thought these might come in handy" he says.
box (75gp) -> Turned to silver and gold; 60cp silver powder to Onyx, 10gp gold chunks distributed (2gp each) -- rest (5gp) presumed lost.
Non-fungible -- to trade
3x25gp Gold rings (75gp);
Platinum/Topaz Pendant (750gp) -> to be sold/bartered by Bert helped by Talion
Fungibles
19x50gp gems
29 x 10gp gems (26 from shelter, 3 from bag)
@DM suggested adding gems as 'gold', so each of us gets 250gp exactly (though it's actually made up of gold and varying gems). Onyx also gets 60gp in silver powder, and we need to get 'trade values' for the rings, brush and amulet (850gp). Talion would like the brush and Bert probably needs the thieves tools for training.
Previously, we each should have received 21CP, 10SP, 11GP; but it looks like only Erven and Talion actually added it to sheets.
Onyx nods grimly. He understood the fear, but they had no other option. Club in one hand, dagger in the other, he steps up to the manor door. He couldn't ask someone else to spring the trap.
"Last chance," he mutters to nobody in particular, and approaches the manor, intending to simply knock.

Another medical problem. Indefinite hiatus. Sorry, all.
You walk the lonely path towards the manor home. The fog is still heavy and obscures some of the property, though you can still see much of it. As you approach the tall and dark building, you see that it is a large manor home, with a couple of buildings on the side - probably a servants house and a stable from the looks of it. The house is clearly in disrepair and it doesn't look like anyone lives in it. The trees and other flora associated with manors of this type look dead and stark, the hedgerows and bushes brittle and decaying. The whole complex is ringed by a rusty wrought iron fence, punctuated at the front by a large gate, which hangs half open. As the gate moves slightly, a loud screeching can be heard. The mist doesn't encroach on the property too far and the buildings are free of it.
You get closer to the gate and see a couple small figures, though they don't seem to have noticed you. An eerie cadence can be heard: soft, plaintive, and mournful and completely out of place here. Bert, you recognize the melody from a song sung to children to keep the monsters away called, "Mother won't you hold me."
Near the gate, you can see two children - one older than the other.
From the sounds of it, the older one is trying to shush the younger one, who holds a ratty well-used stuffed animal in his hand. As you approach they both look up at you. The older one says, "Help us. There's a monster in our house!" She then points to a tall brick row house that has seen better days. Its windows are dark. It has a gated portico on the ground floor, and the rusty gate is slightly ajar. The buildings on the side are abandoned, their windows and doors boarded up.....
Talion walks a little forward, glancing around for signs of adults, then crouches down in front of the children, "Are your parents nearby?"
(( Despite his welcoming posture, he is wary: he knows precisely how dangerous small children can be! ))
They look at you blankly (they show no emotion and are a bit halting in their speech) before saying, "Our parents trapped the monster in the basement. But our baby brother Walter is still in there! I don't know where mama and papa are. Oh, please help us. We can't go back in until the monster is gone."the girl says to you.
"The monster makes noise. We hide and do as mama and papa say. And no peeking, that's what mama says. No using your peepers - peepers to watch - else they dig them out and use them to see," the smaller child - a boy - says rather robotically. "Isn't that right, Barton?" he says to his bear. "We always do as mama and papa say. They love us so." He begins to sing again and you can't help but feel uncomfortable. The girl shushes him again and he quiets. His eyes have faraway look - a trait common to both of them.
Talion glances at his companions, frowning, then turns back to the children, "What about other adults...the servants..." he waves in the direction of the other buildings, "...neighbours, or others?"
Bertolt makes note of the song, beginning to strum on his lute as the strange sounds around them make him feel on edge. As he sees the children he calms slightly but is still unnerved by the look of the house, seeing as it looked to be abandoned for the better part of what he would say we're decades. "Was it these monsters that did this to your home?"
Erven bends down to get eye level with the smaller one and looks at both of them. “What are your names, and who are your parents?” After they answer and he gives them a chance to expand on their story and the story of this house, he says “I know you said no peeking, and you tried your hardest not to, but at some point you must have peeked. What did the monster look like? And what was it doing? Do you know where Walter might be in the house?” He tries to remain calm and reassuring in his voice.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Sho Zuan glances in the direction of the little girl's finger at the dilapidated attic. The age and disrepair of the old villa are faintly visible in the wind - too abandoned, it doesn't look like a house that is still inhabited. The little boy's robotic, disconnected singing is more like some kind of gloomy omen in the mists of the dark night than a reassurance that the song is intended to be. And the two children's eyes, lost in thought, no fear, no fear, only the calmness of stagnate water. Exchanged a look with Talion, Sho Zuan silently stands behind his companions, gauging the credibility of the situation before he says anything.
@Talion They stare blankly at you for a moment. The oldest responds, "Sometimes mama and papa have guests for dinner. I haven't seen Esme in a while, she must be with Walter. She does love him so. She loves us too and raised us...." She stares off before adding to you Talion, "Help us, there's a monster in our house. Our baby brother is up there," she points to top floors before falling silent... @Bert The boy is intrigued by your lute and matches the vibrato of the strings in his own, plaintive high pitched sounds. "The monster is in the basement, where mama and papa trapped it. No peeking else they dig your eyes out." The boy looks at the older girl and then back at the house. "What's wrong with the house? There's a monster trapped in the basement, that's where mama and papa put it." The boy's eyes are locked on your lute and he tries to replicate the sound. You're not certain but his face and mouth seem to elongate as he is trying to get the note right...and then it's back to the original shape. @Ervan The look to you as you step forward and follow as you kneel down. The older one hugs the younger closer. The older one speaks, "I'm Rosavelda but people just call me Rose. He's-"before she can answer, the boy says, "Thornboldt, but people call me Thorn. We aren't supposed to peek. Mama and papa said not to peek..." Rose interrupts, "If we peek, mama and papa said they would dig our eyes out and look through them. We heard it howling so loud, terrible howls. Mama and papa put us in our rooms...I wonder when they will let us out?" Rose's eyes drift to the house,"Walter's up there, in the third floor. That's his room. Can't you hear him?"
You listen but can't hear anything. As you are about to say so, you hear crying - an infant - coming from the house...And at this point you ALL begin to hear it. You look at the others, incredulous and a bit creeped out. Thorn also begins to hum again. "I wonder if mama and papa forgot about us. They surely love us, rightRose?"
@Sho You don't detect Rose and Thorn are lying or being deceptive in any way. They seem to genuinely want your help - to go into the house and find their brother, or to get the monster out. As for credibility, well, it's hard to gauge such a concept here - what exactly are you trying to discern?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I’d like to see if they are actually humans, if they are illusions, if they are under some sort of manipulation or if they are even alive. I guess that’d be more like perception?
Bertolt nods as he lets the others talk with the children, watching the boy closely as he changes his playing. With the next pluck of a string he begins to cast, hoping they would have enough time for him to do a small ritual to cast Detect Magic without using to much of his power.
