Question that I hope is easily answered. I have a Tempest Cleric. If I cast thunderwave and catch a bunch of enemies in the range, can I use Destructive Wrath to maximize the damage to all of them?
Generally, I only roll damage once and apply to all affected creatures. In this case, I feel like the damage would be maximized. However, if RAW says i'm supposed to be rolling each creature, then I should probably only be maximizing one.
If I recall, it has to do with wether you attack several targets (like Scorching Ray or Magic Missile) or if there is an area of effect that causes enemies to make a saving throw.
Well, as much as I don't agree with the Crawford ruling his sage advice said: Magic missile requires a roll for each missile. Which means, as RAJdeBoer said, multi-target spells would require an individual roll per target.
Thunderwave is an AoE, it hits everything simultaneously and uniformly, it does not target individually, with that you would only need to roll once.

I concur. Thunderwave, Shatter, Call Lightning, Destructive Wave, and the like are AOE spells. Each creature in the AOE has a reaction role, but a single damage roll is applied to all affected creatures. Thus, Destructive Wrath rolls max damage for all creatures in the AOE. If a creature saves, that particular creature halves the damage, the rest still receive full damage.
TL;DR Destructive Wrath is badass.

Thoughts?
I think, for both RAW and RAI, you roll the damage of spells only once, even when the spell applies to multiple targets.
So yes, Destructive Wrath maximizes the damage of Thunderwave for all the targets.

*that's my understanding of the situation.
Actually he said for Magic Missile you only roll the damage once and it applies to each missile: https://twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/774030989894955008

Ok, I was remembering this https://www.sageadvice.eu/2014/09/02/three-magic-missile/
So 2 mistakes: it was Mearls and Crawford has ruled otherwise since then.
