This is going to take a long time because it's changes to core, PHB material. I would not be surprised if this never sees the light of day for that reason.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

They said they're working on it. I trust them.

Interestingly, what they said most recently is that some of the new stuff in the Theros book requires the same general feature overhaul that's required for this UA. So, I'd expect the UA to be live either a bit before or a bit after Theros, which drops in June.

The Theros book is of higher priority, so I suspect after, but it might be at the same general time.

If they're saying that the theros book requires the same overhaul, is it possible that some of the variant features will be making it into the theros book as official material? I'd love for most of this stuff to get in tbh, but particularly the ranger content I think fixes the ranger in a near perfect way.

I very much doubt that the Class Feature Variants UA will appear in this book. That is highly unlikely. What I assume they mean is that they are essentially having to recode a specific part of the website to allow both of these to happen, not that they are the same thing, but are difficult because of the same problem.

honestly, i wish they would just add some of the easier parts of this UA to the site. the new fighting styles, for example
Some of those would be harder to implement than you might think, like the Fist Fighter one, there are no modifiers for that or I would have found it by now.
i wont pretend to have any idea how hard it would be to implement. but it would be nice to test some of the simpler stuff earlier. and maybe a potential timeframe. just because im super excited for it to get added. cant wait for it too be done, of course id rather wait and see it done right

Yeah, and timeframes are impossible because they don’t want to tell is it’s around the corner only to have something hold it up at the last minute.
I'm as eager to see this implemented as the next guy, but they do have a point that this one requires much more work to implement than other UA. Most of the time UA just adds new choices to existing lists(subclasses, feats, spells, etc). This UA added options to parts of a character build that previously didn't have choices. So like they've said, it means going in and doing a rewrite on certain pieces of the character builder that have been fairly static until now. That doesn't just mean additional programming time, it means a lot more testing time to make sure they didn't inadvertently break something in the character builder while adding these new features.
BTW, can anyone link to where they said that the Theros book uses some of the mechanics in this UA?

Actually, it requires a ground-up re-write is the entire Character builder that they have been working on for almost a year since way before this UA came out because of other stuff like Ravnica.
I like most of what this unearthed arcana is doing but wish that they would put more effort into all of the classes, i feel like the wizard got shit on for getting nothing unique. They don't get that many spells added to their list but are losing exclusivity on a lot of their spells. They should add more spells or give them more interesting class features as well. Giving practically all of the casters the ability to change their spells seems to make the classes that prepare spells pointless.

I do think the wizard should not have to prepare spells, they have the book, they should be able to cast any spell in their book at any time. You can say they have to be holding if you want.

This seems too OP for my taste, I was thinking of something that allows you to replace one spell you have prepared with another spell from your spellbook.

What do you think of an Action that let's you add a spell from your spellbook to your list of currently prepared spells that you can do Int mod times, resetting on a long rest? So if it's not currently prepared you can still cast it in two turns, one to quick prepare, one to cast? Replacing a currently prepared spell seems thematically weird to me.

If this keeps, up, we may even have to resort to going to...Ludicrous Speed!
Soooo is this being implemented? Its been over 5 months and I haven't been able to play test it with the group through DDB :(
