The latest ranger variant is honestly not as bad as some people try to make it. The biggest problem is that it requires some assistance from the DM to throw your favourite enemies at you and let you fight in your favourite terrain.
Also it's pretty offtopic for this thread.
The latest UA Variant Ranger requires none of that whatsoever. You may be thinking of the “Revised Ranger” which died a long, long time ago and will never see the light of day again.
Bring back THAC0 if that would give AC meaning again.
But THAC0 sucked big hairy balls, when 3rd edition was released I looked at ascending AC loved it and converted my 2nd edition to it and sped up combat. I just couldn't stand anything else in 3rd at the time.

And do you prefer the to hit system of 3rd over the one in 5th? Because I do. And I prefer the thac0 system over 5th as well.

I don’t. I’ll take the 5e system over THAC0 any day.

Sorry but this edition lacks depth. It's a nice introductionary RPG and they finally got the warlock right and put a stop of most of the power creep of 3.5 but I'll take the previous versions, 2e, 3rd and 3,5 and Pathfinder over this. It's too bland and made for the most common denominator. And that's not a bad thing, it just isn't what I prefer. I'll keep on playing it as long as the groups I play with use it but when they go for another game I will gladly follow.

I’ll agree that 5e is a bit shallow compared to older editions, but I attribute that to a lack of significant player options beyond 3rd level without Multiclassing. The AC vs To Hit system of 5e seems infinitely preferable to me than THAC0.
I know it's probably not a popular opinion, but the more I read the spirits bard, the less I like the theme. I love the idea of a storyteller bard, but not a necromancer bard with a skull and ghost board. I would prefer a further look into stories and legends, not death and graves. Tell me you agree.
I completely agree. I see characters like Madam Eva as wizards, sorcerers or warlocks...I do not see them as bards at all.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

This. THAC0 sucked. the 3e system was better in that regard (although I generally prefer 2e to 3e). 5e is far better than either.

That was my first reaction too, but then my opinion changed the more I considered it. Telling a Fortune is a lot like telling a Story, and that’s squarely in the Bard’s wheelhouse.
We'll have to disagree on that. I'm not going down that rabbit hole of a discussion again! I was just showing support for Bramblefoot on that one.

Agreed. Or, a revised ranger that takes away half of the ranger abilities, and gives *nearly* nothing in return.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
Hey what exactly is this refering to? Can somebody explain the joke?
i am soup, with too many ideas (all of them very spicy) who has made sufficient homebrew material and character to last an thousand human lifetimes
Bring back THAC0 if that would give AC meaning again.
They've tried multiple times to fix the ranger or give variants to it. Do you remember the Ranger UA that took away their Spellcasting?

I have many fond memories of 2nd Edition, but I would never go back to it for any reason beyond a short nostalgia trip.

Or the world ended and all I had were my old physical books and people voted for 2e instead of 3/3.5

That seems reasonable.
Edit: However I am far more likely to pack my 5e collection than 2nd or 3/3.5 during an apocalypse because it would be easier to carry.
