I'm trying to introduce Stress (from VRGtR) as a mechanic to my game. The best I've seen suggested for tracking is a homebrew feat with limited uses, which is fine and I've gotten the limited uses part figured out, but each point is supposed to be -1, stacking, to attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws, and I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to do any of that. I'm new to this stuff, and I'm not sure how to make all this happen. Help??
You would use Modifiers, three of them in fact, and probably multiple feats. I gave a walkthrough about it for applying the penalties from Resurrection, if you search the forums for that it would work the same way pretty much.
Okay, so the problem I'm running into this is that there's a negative penalty per point of stress. So at 0 stress points, you should have -0 to any rolls, at 1 stress point you would have -1 to attacks/saving throws/checks, at 5 stress points you would have -5 to attacks/saving throws/checks. Is there actually a way to do that? Because just using a -1 modifier for the feat is all well and good, but then it's just set to -1 regardless of how many 'charges' are expended, and straight up adding or removing multiple new feats every session doesn't seem very workable.
The only way on the character sheet to have a counter of sorts is a limited use action and I can't think of a way of taking that value and apply it as a modifier to things.
The only way I can think of doing something this would be a magic items. Wonderous items that when equipped, apply the correct modifiers you want at that iteration of their Stress level. It's complicated, yes, but might be a tad bit easier to implement than feats.
I'm not familiar with the Stress mechanic to suggest the best way to do it, but dynamically changing modifiers based on some arbitrary things sounds like something that magic items could replicate.
Make a magic item. Name it Stress Score 1. Do the other things like in the below picture. Put the text of the Stress mechanic in the item's description.
Add the modifiers. Ability Checks and Saving Throws are easy enough, but there's lots of attacks. I think this is sufficient.
Make a copy of that item. Change the name to Stress Score 2.
Now have your players do this. Manage Inventory. Check ON containers. Add an Alms Box.
Change the name of that Alms Box to Stress.
Now in Manage Inventory / Add Items, add the Stress Score items. I made two.
You're set. Now just tell the player to equip the appropriate Stress Score when they hit the triggers.
It's not that hard.

So theres not a way to track a penalty for all three with a single checkbox? Ugh. Thanks for letting me know tho

Yup. That’s the way, just like I explained for the Resurrection penalty feats more or less.
