Question(s) of the Day: Do your PCs dream? And of what?
Our DM has used dreams/visions as a storytelling tool. My PC had a dream involving a fortune teller and converging paths in the wilderness, seemingly representing possible directions in his life. Other players have had communications from the (missing? sleeping? weakened?) gods and things like that. The DM has also said we can throw our own dreams into rests but I haven't really done that yet.
Question(s) of the Day: Do your PCs dream? And of what?
In the Curse of Strahd game I am - I am playing a Tiefling Paladin (Ancients) who is the older twin (by mere seconds) of an Aasimar (Fallen, Druid) - so it's the darkness and light represented by both of us, and both ties to the land in a way - and my DM has often used dreams (like if my character's sister misses a session) - she will use dreams to indicate where she is (often times captured by the many things that wander around Barovia).
And as a DM, I have often used dreams for my players - where they might get a sense of something or have a weird vision, when they do a long rest. It's not every time, it's pretty rare, but it's a fun tool to use to build tension, or sometimes reveal a little extra information you want your players to have or try and figure out what it means (if it isn't always clear).
"I had a dream of a white sheep, standing on the edge of a cliff - looking downward - and saw rivers red with blood."
Party gathers around, "Well, the cliff could mean High Stone, which is where we're headed. The sheep could be Angie's deity - since she sees herself as the Sheppard. And the rivers of blood could be the upcoming war we're trying to stop."
Ah dreams. Those were not a fun place for my last character. He was visited by the god of ruin in his sleep, so that wasn’t a whole lot of fun. My other character had dream stuff in his backstory, but we didn’t get to it.
Question(s) of the Day: Do your PCs dream? And of what?
I like to think that the ominous dice clatter through their minds every now and then.
I once did a little dream sequence that was full of easter eggs and symbolism. I sent it to a player prior to the game, but the game fell through and I didn't get much of a chance to use it.
I assume they dream, but for the same reason I don't often talk about my character's internal thoughts in much depth, I don't really bring it to the table. Seems strange to describe something that nobody else can observe in any way.
I'm sure there's been exceptions but currently none come to mind.
Question: If your next game couldn't have Dungeons AND Dragons in it -- if you could only pick one -- which would you pick? Let's assume you can't cheese it: You can't pick dragons but still include multi-room exploration zones with monsters living inside (so no Castle Ravenloft), and you can't choose dungeons but still include big element-breathing monsters who hoard treasure (so no Behirs).

Hmm
I would probably pick dragons because I have not actually used dragons in a while. Or ever. With all the other monsters and stuff in the game, dragons have been overshadowed in my mind. I would pick dragons to force myself to come up with a good story for them. I really like dragons and I am sad that I keep forgetting about them.

Dungeons. I can totally work without Dragons, most of my adventures don’t include dragons in fact. But no dungeons…? I don’t think that’s even possible since every forest, swamp, sewer, and ruin is a dungeon of some sort.
Question of the Day: Dungeons or Dragons? Choose one and tell us why.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Yours. I just thought it was kinda funny that you made essentially the same question as Sposta 926 posts later.

I would definitely still pick Dragons. For me, Dungeons - and this is coming from someone who started in 1st edition where Dungeons were a part of every module - I feel like Dungeons are too... limited? And - maybe it's me as a DM - but I struggle on trying to keep it exciting. "You're standing at the beginning of a hallway. It extends 60' forward before it takes a slight dip. Up ahead, there's a passage to the right, you can hear the sound of what appears to be water dripping. A passage veers to the left as well, but seems to go upward - but no light comes from there."
"We go forward and head right, towards water."
"Cool, you're still in a passage, it extends about 40' - at the base you see what appears to be a shallow lake. Water drips from above the dungeon's ceiling - you know, roughly above you somewhere is Grand Lake. So this may be water dripping from that."
Party examines the lake, and proceeds forward after fighting Monster_01 in the lake.
"Cool, great fight. The hall here extends another 30' feet before veering to the right..."
For me, most of my adventures - and I mean about 99.99999% take place above land (in various landscapes).
So Dungeons have always felt limiting to me - both when I am playing, and even as a DM.
Add to the fact if I am picking between Dungeons or Dragons - to me, Dragons are the top of the tier for monsters. These are the beasts that should be most feared.
But that undoubtedly comes from the very heavy influence of having The Hobbit read to me (well, my entire 4th grade class when I was a wee lad) - and that really being my introduction to fantasy. So I always hold Dragons in high regard, like they're all like Smaug.
Yes. They took the official stats and put it on that page, by the looks of it. But when ye asked about it - that Hellfire Engine was the first thing I thought of.

Ok. That’s a high offense, low defense and speed build. If my Devil’s Ride and that Hellfire Engine were to fight, my Devil’s Ride might win, but only if it rolls higher on initiative. If it doesn’t, I’m dead.

I would have to pick dungeons. I love dragons, but I can't imagine playing D&D without any dungeons to explore and fight in. Dragons are usually a thing I might add to make the game a bit more fun, not something that is hugely important to lots of adventures for me.

Naw, for me there's already the Hellfire Engine which sounds similiar?

HERE.I'd have to agree. But maybe that's indicative of a fundamental flaw in my campaign designs! Maybe they'd be improved by adding more dragons!
