there is a forest that connects all forests. a forest where all fairy tales take place. a forest where monsters and heroes and witches and great spirit/gods dwell. the forest is made of tall trees, taller than any you know, their thick branches forming an inpenritable canopy.
people become lost easily here. the trees eat them.
you have become lost in this forest. it doesn't matter how or where, you're long gone from what you knew
becuase this forest is alive. this forest has a stomach. and its stomach is never full.
can you tell I like over the garden wall?

the forest senses a new arrival. it reaches its roots and mushroom networks out, spreading, until they reach a pile of soil, not unlike a hill. its covered in dry orange leaves. when the roots reach the hill, it shifts. you hear a howl, like a wolf, but bigger than any wolf you've ever heard. low and long, the sound resonates in your bones and brain, lingering long after it finishes

In an area of the Wood more exposed to sunlight, where a rocky escarpment provides a small break from the trees, Den is bashing a smaller rock against a bigger rock. 'Been demoted to a flipping caveman' he thinks as the rounded stone in his hand hammers away at the vein of blue mineral ingrained in the larger boulder below. He'd been lost for maybe two weeks now, and although his water bottle ran out in the first few days, he'd found enough streams to keep himself alive. Every time he did, he'd set up a camp, thinking he could survive long enough until rescue, then wake up to find the stream gone, replaced with a hedge, or an enormous snail trail, or just fox poo. It was usually fox poo. However, recently, he's been failing to find as many streams as usual, and now is going borderline insane. His water-deprived brain saw blue in the rock as he walked, realised blue meant water, and just started bashing, his hysteria causing him to chalk the logic of this endeavour up as perfectly reasonable, along with all the other bizarre events that had been going on. Suddenly, a small part of the blue streak splinters away, and without thinking, Den immediately pinches up the powder in his fingertips and then puts into to his lips. Despite his thirst, he can't help but have a tear roll down his cheek at the taste. It's not some magical water rock at all. In fact, the mineral tastes almost identical to soy sauce.

Den gives an angry growl and yells ‘Goddamn creepy wind! Can’t catch a break in these dumb woods!’, whilst he hurls the rock he was holding in the direction of the laughter.
