What is more important, getting 18 in dex or 14 in con, as a swords bard?
Got the choice of starting with 18 dex and 12 con, or 16 dex and 14 con.
I plan to skirmish alot with throwing weapons/duel wield and such + support and spells.
Things like kinetic-jaunt and such too, for darting in and out of combat. - I am going to multiclass rogue aswell. 🙂
The bard character has a very "Darkest dungeon" Jester feel to it, and kinda going for that "vibe" for how he fights/supports. 🃏
Most in the party is rather tanky, Bloodhunter, Cleric, BaB/ranger, Fighter/Paladin, Bladesong wizard (very tanky dwarf version) and then me, the Bard/Rogue.
By skirmish I mean, dart from front to backline, duel wield, throw daggers and stab, and stay on the move. Aswell using tons of control/dps spells, and support alot aswell, I support alot, but I do dps well too!
I fill in the bard/rogue archtype, skill monkey support/dps. - I dart in and out of harmsway and deliver harm and mayhem, then get out of dodge really. - I have tons of uility/face abitlies too, so very versitaile in my playstyle.
My fear is being nuked by save rolls, that ignore AC, and go down/die out right. Yet, Dex gives so much to my concept, yet I fear if 12 con is enough or not. I fear if 16 dex is enough too, since I am going with light armor + if I have enough AC with only 16 dex.
Medium armor is not what I am gunning for, style wise, unless it comes up in a very benefital way/I get a magic item. But I see my character more as the acrobatic jester wild card, that darts around and rely on speed and aswell trickery and spells, aswell sword/knife play to deal out death 🎯
I’d go 14 Con; anything less feels very risky to me. Everyone needs HP, Con saves are very common with generally dire consequences on a failure and, as a bard in melee at least some of the time, you’ll likely be rolling plenty of concentration checks. In my current repertoire of characters, only one has 12 Con: a harengon swarmkeeper ranger who has plenty of abilities and options to ensure that she is never in melee, can heal herself if needed and is d10 hit die (essentially the same as d8 HD with 14 Con anyway, haha).
If you don't plan to be a front liner then Con is less useful for you. I'd personally go Dex for everything it offers but there's arguments for both ways.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
Yeah, I’d stick with DEX; the extra HP is nice but you’ll get more mileage out of not being hit by attack rolls in the first place, as well as letting you land more hits so you have opportunities to proc Flourishes.
Thanks for the feedback so faar! I am really in a limbo in this one, and I could see myself going both ways aswell!
My biggest fear is damge/spells that ignore my AC, and that my HP wont be sufficient, however! I love the high dex too.
My weapons are daggers/reskinned sickle, schimatar, and magic. - Switch alot around, depending on foe and goal, sometimes control is key, at other times its all about damge and bravado.
I usually try to stay in dagger throwing range, so I can dart in too if needed, but skirmish is the name of the game in my case 😊

Most damaging spells that don't proc off your AC will proc off of your Dexterity Saving Throw - this is doubly good for you as a rogue, who gets Evasion at 7th level. I still heavily lean Dex.

DEX is the strongest stat in the game by quite a margin. AC, initiative, finesse attacks, ranged attacks, several skills, a vital save... versus CON is just hit points and a strong save. This is not a hard choice IMO, it's not like you're dumping CON with a 12 and your character concept doesn't sound like a beefy guy anyway.
Really the question to me it seems would be whether you should go 16 DEX/12 CON so you have more points for CHA. With a low charisma score I would argue that your levels of swords bard would be dragging down your rogue side. You won't have many uses of inspiration and your spells won't land very well. If you're concerned about optimization, look at what you're really getting from your bard side and compare it to what you lose out compared to more rogue levels.
If it's mainly flavor you're after, a full rogue can totally be a jester. You can get a couple instrument proficiencies from a background and the rest is just how you describe your character.

Hope this makes good sense 🎃

The chance to proc flourish more often, is a very neat arguement too! For Defensiv flourish and more!

^ This!
Actually a really solid point too! Thank you! 🫡
I am up for more feedback! If more have some ☺️
