I’m fairly new to DND Beyond, but I’ve done everything according to the guides I’ve researched when setting up my character. I set advancement type to XP and and hit point type to fixed. From what I understand, that should automatically increase my character’s health as they level up. Here’s where my problem is. My character’s health won’t automatically increase regardless of how much I level them up. I’ve tried switching hit point type to manual and back to fixed and removing and re-adding their class, but to no avail. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug of some sort?
When you gain a character level, the system has no way of knowing if you intend to multiclass or not, so you still have to manually put that level into your class before the system can do the automated stuff like fixed HP. After all, you could take a level in Barbarian and need a d12 Hit Die, or a level in Wizard and need a d6. Until you designate which class level you take the system has no idea what to do for you.
I went ahead and leveled up my character, but the HP shows the same for me. It’s staying at 13, as if I should be manually setting it, rather than increasing automatically, despite hit point type being set to fixed.
Thank you for the explanation! Is there any way to specify that my character won’t multiclass and levels should be automatically added to my fighter class, or is manually specifying my fighter level as I gain XP the only option I have?
No. You have to level up the class on that level up to have it add the HP correctly. Why would you increase your character level and NOT increase your class level? Most everything you get on a level up is by leveling up your class, not your character.

Your character is currently level 1 and the HP looks right: 10 (level 1 fighter) + 3 (CON mod) = 13
If you take another level in fighter, your HP should go up to 22: 13 (from level 1) + 6 (average for a d10) + 3 (CON mod). What does it show for you?

Again, you have to put that level specifically into your Fighter Class.

Manually selecting your class level whenever you level up is the only way to do it.
