Why.... i just learned the old one but now it take me 5 hours to actually get to my spells . Please this need improvement or a roll back. Everything is too cluttered and apart.
Love the new sheet, but I'm not a fan of the way negative damage and healing is done on the PC sheet. While it may make sense mathematically for negative damage to heal, clicking down 3 times and then clicking damage would seem intuitively to be how you would apply damage. This will confuse some players, I'm sure. I made the mistake several times.
Now that the sheet revamp and its various improvements are out, are there any plans for letting us changing our spellcasting ability score? I play a warlock who uses Intelligence instead of Charisma, and I have a custom magic item handling that, but it would be nice not to have to do that.
It seems on the .pdf export the (p) tag is off, it notes I have proficiency where I don't have proficiency, and vis versa. It does look like the math is correct on calculating proficiency bonus though.
Clicking the cog to open up the side window for, say, saving throws for example works fine. However allot of them also open by clicking anywhere in the widget, not just on manage, which is just random and unintuitive.
The features and traits widget is just too packed. Surely you could make them expandable so you can see all of them easily, pick one, expand it and mark it instead of having to scroll through them in a widget you can't resize. It's super painful with a multi-classed Paladin Battlemaster. It even has Superiority Die, then student of war is between them and the maneuvers, which are all expanded. I don't need Student of War expanded, nor divine health, spellcasting, etc etc, and if I have the top widget set to Actions, it's almost the EXACT same list. Too bad it's in alphabetical order so Channel divinity is at the top, then there are multiple actions before Sacred Weapon, which is the ACTION FOR CHANNEL DIVINITY, then more before Turn the Unholy, which is the SECOND ACTION. Super unintuitive.
Channel Divinity should be expandable, showing Sacred Weapon and Turn the Unholy as also expandable with the full ROW inside. If you know what to use, just click the box. If you forget which ones you have, expand it. If you want to remember what a specific thing does, expand it.
Make Superiority Die expandable, with the maneuvers in the list, which are also expandable with the full ROW inside. If you know what you are using, no need to expand it just click the box. If you forget which ones you have, expand it. If you want to remember what a specific maneuver does, expand it.
It shows too much stuff, and while it could be said it's handy for newer players, it's too packed to be intuitive for a newer player. They could be forgiven for forgetting they have an ability or trait. It's also no good for a player that knows their character because it is a pain to mark off what you've used. Every Paladin that has done 2 sessions knows how Lay on Hands works. I don't need a paragraph explaining it I just need to be able to mark how many HP of the pool I've used. All those things should be expanded only when you want to double check how something works, which could be the entire RAW if you can hide it the rest of the time. It would still be less cluttered than the cut-down version and would also mean you don't need the side bar with the full rule, which usually reads differently to the cut-down version and buggers up the page scrolling.
I was just playing with the new layout (loving it so far!). All of the changes I think are important have already been requested, but found a quality of life thing that would be great for newer players:
Noticed that the 'Off-hand' option for weapons is now 'Dual Wield'. As well as visibly marking it, would it be possible to display it as a 'bonus action' attack in both the 'Bonus Actions' section and the 'Attack' section when you have a weapon toggled this way? It's a small thing, but it's something that would help make it more obvious. If that could then also be displayed when exported to PDF that would be awesome (it seems the PDF is missing a few bits of info too but I think that's been listed in previous comments).
Thanks for all the hard work on this. It looks brilliant and I'm looking forward to using it!

Love the changes from the iPad perspective. Three things I would like to see that would take it a step further:
versatile weapons - add a check box for two-handed wield to make it display actual damage rather than grayed text
wild magic surge - the sidebar roll table is awesome but a way to see the effect of the spells would be helpful. For example, rolling 7 or 8 casts fireball at level 3 - now I have to search the spell list for fireball. I think this could be a click and replace on the sidebar since I only need to see it after I roll.
Toggle between characters - I play with 3 little ones who cannot read so I often have to flip between characters to double check spell effects and such. An easy way to move between characters without having to go through the whole selection process would be nice. sure, I could open multiple tabs and that’s probably easiest, but a button or option on the character portrait to switch would be nice. Especially if it keeps me in the same view (combat for example).
It would be nice (on PC) to have the AC, initiative and defenses and condition on the main page and out of the combat tab. Use the freed space to merge action tab with combat tab.
It would also be very nice to have the possibility to sort things myself, so I can put the warhammer (that I use 90% of the time) before a dagger that I rarely use.
A simple drag and drop function, so that I can pull things up or down in the tabs.
Ipad Air interface is bad (the only tablet I have so not sure if it is a problem on other tablets).
Let me start by saying I like the desktop experience on my computer and it is also not bad (but could be better) on my iPhone SE.
The problem with the Ipad version (the version I use most at the table): For some reason, you can not see your HPs on the combat screen (kind of important when in combat). You can see HP on the combat screen on the mobile phone version (at least on my phone, I don't know if it looks more like the tablet version on large phones).
If you switch to the desktop view on the Ipad the tooltip bar covers up the buttons that make the tooltip bar retract so once it pops out there is no way to make it go away. Your only option is to go back to the mobile version. In desktop mode, the sidebar should be able to be swiped away like in the mobile view or at least put the buttons for retracting the sidebar someplace accessible.
The Combat screen needs more info available on the Ipad in mobile view (and on the phone as well). On the combat screen, you need to be able to see: HP (for sure), Saving Throws(for sure), Speed (for sure), Spells (for sure), and skills (would be nice). Even if some scrolling up and down is needed. That is preferred to having to switch back and forth from one page to another.
We are off to a good start but the mobile version needs some work. The current mobile version is not better than the old version in my opinion. I believe it will get there in time.
The PDF is better than it was, but the print is way too small, most of the people in my group can't read it. I am glad I waited to see the re vamp before buying. Time for me to move on as this is not for me or my group.
I wish you guys luck in all your future en devours
I'm pretty sure it's based on the with of the screen in pixels. 1200px was chosen as the minimum width because at that point the boxes start to squish together. It is also a common "desktop" breakpoint in Web design.
If you can zoom the web page out on your tablet, you should be able to see it in desktop layout.
Unfortunately, because there is no "desktop mode" available at all for the character sheet when using a mobile device, I can't zoom out on my iPad: trying to do so results in thumbnails of all of my tabs appearing. This is not normal Safari iOS behavior, and the zoom works properly on other websites and if I have the forums pulled up here (and have forced the forums to show in mobile view). But it cannot be done on the character sheet, even if I have tried to force it to revert to desktop view.
With the previous character sheet, if my iPad was in landscape position, I could see the desktop view (or something close to it) instead of the mobile view automatically. Now the desktop view is completely unavailable to me.
I just got a 4k monitor and am running two monitors at the moment, and it's quite clear that this page was designed for 1920x1080. There's an impressive amount of unused space, which while the old version didn't use to its fullest extent did capture more on a page at a time than 1080p due to its being largely vertical. To demonstrate the sheer vastness of unused space on a 4k monitor, here's what the page looks like; downscaled, of course.
I realize the difficulty of tweaking and adjusting the sheet is no small feat, but I do believe having a variety of variant sheets is a great thing as many people like to have their sheets organized differently, such as those with enough screen space to take more information on the screen at a time versus those who would like things to be stacked and only see what matters to them in the moment.
It seems on the .pdf export the (p) tag is off, it notes I have proficiency where I don't have proficiency, and vis versa. It does look like the math is correct on calculating proficiency bonus though.
Yes, we're aware of this one and a fix will go out soon. Thanks!

The "Desktop Mode" link in the mobile menu was supposed to be removed. Clicking on that (it sounds like that's what you have done) will produce a completely bad experience. Unfortunately, the only way to get back into a mode that looks correct is to clear cookies for D&D Beyond. Apologies for that inconvenience.
The size of the desktop sheet is 1200 pixels, which will not fit on even landscape iPads, which are 1024. We are hearing the feedback about iPad landscape layout and are reviewing if any changes are needed. We want to be sure if we make changes that we consider all feedback after it's been used in play.
Hey first off amazing job on this new sheet. You can see and feel the love and passion you guys put into this sheet. Now one suggestion I have in the notes section in an individual piece of equipment is nice. However it is a side scrolling system at least it is on mobile. Is there a way you guys can can make the equipment notes the same as the notes for background being a vertical scrolling system. This would allow for separation and would be a nice system for trying to manage a bag of holding, or would allow to put some backstory on a ancient weapon. Just a thought and I appreciate all your guys hard work thank you for your time with this long message.

Love the revamp. Everything is much easier to find and update on the fly.
Would love it if weapon properties worked the same way as 'actions' where if I click 'finesse' or 'light' a snippet pops up to give more detail.
