As work begins (eventually) on the D&D Beyond virtual tabletop...
I, for one, hate the idea of the development effort of Dndbeyond being spent on developing yet another VTT. There are enough VTTs on the market that do enough that another one isn't needed. I would much rather see that money spent on improving the encounter and combat builders.
Hi Farling,
FYI, the Encounter Builder and Combat Tracker are part of the planned “Virtual Game Space” (VTT) that DDB is developing.
41 pages are a lot to comb through, so I don't know if this has been mentioned before...two of the biggest things I would love:
Firstly a LARGE size image of the character portrait we select or upload (either in character descriptions, or another tab beyond as Portrait).
Secondly is an art gallery/catalog of all the images in the sources we have purchased. I hate having to click around and scroll-scroll-scroll to find the art for an adventure, enemy, magic item, etc. I can see that there is some sort of digital file-sort, but we can't access it beyond individual images ( http://media-waterdeep.cursecdn.com/attachments/2/723/phbcover.jpg for PHB cover)
Has there been any updates at all about the VTT? All of my groups stuff is bought through DnD Beyond and I'd love to be able to integrate everything in one nice VTT.

It will be at least a year before it’s ready, probably closer to two. They don’t give estimates for timeframes, they just say “Work in progress” for what seems like ever and then boom, all of a sudden stuff is just done. But realistically it ain’t gonna be done any time in the near future.
I think it would be great to have a virtual DM screen that gives you assorted players stats that you could choose. For instance, it would be great to be able to see all my players stealth and perception modifiers as well as HP and AC in one place while playing.
And personality traits, if you are a DM that awards inspiration.
I don’t award Inspiration, I give an extra 25XP/instance (as well as for other things). Really encourages role playing. It would be useful for all kinds of reasons.
I want to be able to add supernatural gifts and piety from Theros to my character sheets! By which I mean I want to be able to select them as options rather then having to manually do them.
Also would be really helpful if you could select a companion for beast master and have it automatically keep track of their stats!

in the creatures section, choose beast master companion and then select the beast from the list. it will keep you the stats and it will tell you what to add, because for now it doesn't add stuff to it. but it does keep the creature listed under the creature tab.

Lots of great ideas in the thread. I think something that would hopefully be easy to implement would be a bookmark/favorite feature for any of the content across the site. Like Aramalian suggested, I often find monsters, items, concepts, etc. that I would like to use in the future in my campaigns, so having a way to bookmark them and come back to them later would be massively helpful. Matpryer suggested this for oft-used rules as well so we can find everything we need on the DnDBeyond site instead of resorting to searching Roll20 or other resources. DnDBeyond's content is amazing, we just need a more efficient way to access it. This feature, along with folders for organizing assets, would be terrific quality of life improvements for users.
Being able to use variant class features would be nice
It is coming, they have been qorking on it for the last month or so, if not more. they had to change the way characters were working in order to implement it and it required a complete overhaul of the character sheet as we know it. now the character sheet change was implemented slowly to avoid problems and ensure backward compatibility. but now the change is done. now they are working on putting the class variant feature into motion. they are close to it by now. the last thing that was said in the friday developper update was that it is almost upon us, still no update for release but they are working on it and with the change to the character sheet it is going well. and is well underway.
if you wanna know more, i suggest you subscribe to their beyond youtube channel and that you watch those friday dev update by adam, he's going into details ad answers many questions on them. at that every weeks !

Please create a dungeon map tool (hopefully gridded) that can be viewed by everyone in a campaign. Each player could have a model on a map the DM creates or uploads. The DM could apply buffs/debuffs, damage, etc to the model that would interface to the char sheets and apply the effects there as well. Or the player can track that as well and the DM would see it in the tool.
Settings could allow players to hover other other models to see hps, ac, movement, etc.
To have all the tools needed to run an online game smoothly would be AMAZING. Well accept for chat but there is plenty of way to handle communication.
I would be happy to increase my sub payment to include a tool like that.

The character I'm about to play is going to be in Dragon Heist, so that might not work...

I don’t know Dragon Heist. 🤷♂️ But either way it’s a good idea.

That'd be super nice to have in there! There would be a ton of things that would be fun/useful to have.
