1000 in books? Where are you buying your books at, because even at MSRP, all the content for 5E comes in WAY below a grand.
Starter Kit: 19.99
Players Handbook: 49.95
Monster Manual: 49.95
DM Guide: 49.95
Hoard of the Dragon Queen: 29.95
Rise of Tiamat: 29.95
Princes of the Apocalypse: 49.95
Out of the Abyss: 49.95
Sword Coast Guide: 39.95
Curse of Strahd: 49.95
Storm Kings Thunder: 49.95
Volos Guide: 49.95
Tales from the Yawning Portal: 49.95
Tomb of Annihiliation: 49.95 (not released as of post except to DnD Beyond and game stores)
So that comes to a grand total of 619.34 IF you bought them all at MSRP. I just went through and added my cost through Amazon (including the strangely high 45 buck preorder for ToA, since usually they run around 30) and got a total of just 376 I have spend on books so far, bump that up to 407 if you include my preorder of Xanathars guide.
Come on down to Canada :)
~$63/book, with 3 copies of the PHB purchased
Again, just saying this does not work for me, I will not buy the content again, just kinda disappointed is all. I get that they have to make money their own way, but it sucks feeling like im getting nickel and dimed here, having already purchased books, then duplicating a few of those purchases on Roll20, its already too much IMO. As such, My choice will be to stick with the books, as much as that sucks, and continue to use 3rd party tools that accomplish much of what this one does, minus the graphical niceness.
come on down in Quebec canada :)
90$/book for french version of each core books translated... its hurt
i played 2nd edition for a long time and stop playing like 10years ago ... lately i contacted some friends and we decided to start playing again. i saw it was now 5e edition so i start looking around for books when i saw the price of french books 90+- vs english book 60$+- i was pissed then i found here by doing search on google for buying pdf or alternative of the physical book that was too much money.
i must say having to pay 19.99$ for each of the 3 core books in english here + using it in that tools that will just get better over time its like wow even if 19.99 us is like 27 cdn its very cheap compare to a 60+ physical version of the books and we dont even talk about the french translation of the physical book at 90$... only downside its not having a pdf for printing and highlight some parts of the rules or when preparing adventures ... maybe they will make such options we could use here.
Franckly i just dont understand why WOTC sell watermarked pdf of adventure league and still dont allow anyone to sell watermarked pdf or give watermarked pdf file when you buy a digital content books or adventures.
for me the price + tools is a must and if one day they start incorporate other language on content and tools that will be even better deal for me. But i understand when you buy book at full price + duplicate info here for another 20-30$ if you dont count the tools and the fact that you can use your content incorporated in the tools its frustrating.
you have to take in consideration that tools and what it does now + what it will let us do in the future but i dont think anyone criticize that, they criticize that they have to pay twice for the same information content from WOTC and they are ready to pay some $ for curse job on the tools and incorporation of the content within the tools
but i have to admit if curse take like 5$ out of the 20-30$ of content + money on subscription and its viable for them they should find a way to charge this and let owner of physical books scan their book and incorporate the info by themselve i think so far we can do that with the homebrew for items spell etc... but still missing hombrew for class, subclass, background and races once that will be done people who own the physical books will be able to recreate whats in those books via the homebrew and wont have any excuses to criticize the price .... i'm sure some guys will still complaint because they would like curse to do it for them but for that you have to pay thats what people who bough the content here did to save time ... those people will have to understand that in life if you dont want to do something yourself you have to pay someone to do it for you. thats it
So Slayer175, you've bought the PHB 3 times, but balk at $30 for a digital masterpiece?
I just don't get some people.
That was bothering me a bit, too. If you've bought the same book three times, you must really like having that information available to multiple people at once. I guess it's the subscription.

he could sell the 3 books then buy the PHB here + 2 year master tier subscription and would still have some $$ left and they could share the PHB to 12 character x 3 campaign
i sold 20 books from the 2nd edition around 70$ and get the legendary pack here i will probably collect money from my friends who gonna play in my group for the master tier subscription like 5$/month each that will pay the subscription and the content i already bough over time with the extra or i can get some new content when they come out there is so many way to get your stuff here they give you so much option like buying only some pack on a book that you need without buying the whole stuff and then later if you want the whole book then you get credited for the pack you already bough from that books its amazing its perfect for people who dont have much money to invest in a one time payement you can buy parts every now and then when you have some money till you complete all what you need. i saw someone said its a money pitt i think he didnt understood that been made to help people to buy your books overtime without having to empty your wallet on one shot. you get credited for what you already bough in that same book if you buy it later, its just amazing they did that
Do you get to own your digital books when the internet explodes or Beyond shuts down in 40 years? No. Do I get to own the Bowling Alley where I pay my dues to bowl each week? No. People are so entitled.
I understand the frustration and the mindset of feeling like you're paying for the same content twice. However that frustration should not be directed at Curse & D&D Beyond. WotC are the ones who were unable to provide in-house digital tools. Instead Curse is providing said tools and they are doing so at a discount compared to the physical copy cover price. I am glad for these tools. I am not a wealthy person but I scrimped and saved during the open Beta to be able to purchase the products I wanted when the Marketplace went live. My main frustration so far is that I am impatient for more functionality. The offline apps, the encounter tracker, campaign management, but I know they are coming.
By all means go direct your frustration at WotC. While I thoroughly enjoy 5E as a system I believe WotC is deserving of quite a bit of criticism. Of course they don't have forums for discussion. Frankly I am glad for Curse because I believe they will deliver a better product and they'll be getting my purchases from now on.
Actually, I've purchased core rulebooks multiple times for multiple systems. It's a good investment if you like the system. Sometimes you give those things away.
And I'm as close to broke as it comes. Now, this isn't a coffee a day thing, or an avocado on toast thing. It's an entertainment thing. It's pretty well worth the money. If you don't believe me, check out my blog post on the matter.
And digital tools are never free. 4e had a robust and lauded digital tool set that was rather expensive over its lifetime. And other programs like HeroLab and Fantasy Grounds are expensive no matter the system (with the exception of some free games, but then you aren't even paying for the original game).
Many MANY people have wanted to have the means to pay for a legitimate digital copy of these books, so don't get down on how much it costs to "buy it twice". For some of us it is well worth it.
Though I would have been happy had they released at LEAST the PHB for a cheaper price. I mean, that would have been a good gateway drug style option.....

I agree and mentioned it once. Although I think that would involve more negotiations or something with WotC. I think they don't want to put the price too low and reduce the incentive to buy the physical books.

I'm not sure where I should post this question/feedback - if I should make a new thread, or post it here. It's a bit connected to the marketplace, in the sense that it's connected to the books you buy there.
My question: After buying ToA here, what I love and find invaluable is the interconnectivity. My question/suggestion is this: If I own both the sourcebooks (i.e. the DMG) and the campaign book (i.e. ToA), would a reference to a rule/feature/page in the DMG be linked/connected, like all the other stuff?
If not -- that's a feature I'd love to see, which might compel me to buy the DMG at D&D Beyond in addition to the physical copy I own.

Yes it's supposed to although they're in the process of fixing a bunch of missing anchors/links.

There was a 33% off sale on the PHB, DMG, and MM for almost a week after launch. Does that count?

I can appreciate that the books are more expensive in Canada, if you guys can appreciate the fact that I get REAMED for medical insurance every month. I would rather take that 13 dollar per book price increase if that meant I wasn't payout out 250 dollars a month just for medical insurance!
Either way, I think that the prices they are offering are quite reasonable.

I think it would be handy to see a "Builder Bundle" that just bundles all the other "a la carte" items that specifically enhance the character builder into one handy place.
I know there's some plans for Adventurer's League "integration" but is there any plan for implementation of the Adventurer's League content itself into DnDB?

With the release of "Tortle" - I want to emphasize this, for my interest, since afaik, there is no way to create a "Tortle" race char on dndb

oh cool, didn't show up until i used your direct link, thanks!
So yeah my question didn't have anything to do with character creation or Tortles 😂 but I'm glad my question for the admins was hijacked by yet another Tortle concern lol

I'd like $10 per core book. Or even only for the PHB. And not just on sale. That's the gateway to all other books.
I know there's some plans for Adventurer's League "integration" but is there any plan for implementation of the Adventurer's League content itself into DnDB?
