I agree with HZ that Paladin is kind of a total package, but full casters pull ahead in the final levels.
The classes I'm drawn to the most thematically and fun-wise are Rogue, Ranger, and Artificer.
This poll feels extremely dated with Revised Ranger and Mystic on the list though. I did a double take when I saw the first post wasn't from like 2018.
Side note in mu O-Chem class it had a failure rate of 60% and was the weed out class for people who wanted to become physicians. So most people did not like it.
I can say In general I do not enjoy playing a few classes as in general they often require or should require some RPG aspects. For example I think if you play a Cleric you should have some religious RPG stuff for your PC, even if you simply say I do or am looking to do X,Y and Z as that is what my religion is focused on. I do agree that their are cases in fiction and life of rebel or rebellious religious figures, followers and non-norm followers but if that is most or every PC I tend to get tired of it. But you may have not problem with that in your game.
I'm not asking which class is the most op, I'm asking which class is the most reliable and fun.
Reliable at what? Consistent damage? Peak damage? Problem solving? Ability checks? You would need to define what you're looking at here
As for 'most fun', that's purely subjective and there is no class that is 'most fun'
I've chosen to interpret reliable as the ability to contribute in a meaningful way as often as possible, as well as the lack of serious gaps in power because certain key abilities have not come online yet.
I mean how they can impact the party, and help a lot.
Say I'm DMing for two different groups. One campaign centers mostly around intrigue and mystery and takes place entirely in my setting's largest city, a sprawling metropolis as large as all other capital cities in that setting combined. The other is a gritty survival game with the party being rebels engaging in hit and run guerilla tactics to bring down an oppressive government on the fringes of the 'civilized' world. There's going to be some overlap, but the most helpful classes in one campaign are probably going to be in more of a support role in the other. How useful classes (and I should really say characters rather than classes, given backgrounds, multiclassing, subclasses and the diversity within a single class in general) are depends on the campaign, which is just another way of saying "it's up to the DM to give everyone a chance to shine".
Cleric would be great pick for either one of those...you just change the domain to fit one better than the other.
Fighter on the other hand would be hard pressed to be particularly good at either....they might do "fine" but otherwise may fall behind in both cases fairly easily.
DMs have some responsibility to help players shine but its also up to the players to make a character that will balance well with the type of campaign played.
If you have a political heavy, mostly intrigue and RP campaign and you pick Champion....well I as a DM will likely try to talk you out of it for good reasons as you will not really be contributing most of the time and have almost 0 applicable skills outside of combat.
There are definitely classes that can shine regardless of the campaign as their kits allow for varied play....and others just do not have it as easy.
Monks, Barbarians, and Fighters will struggle in the RP pollical campaigns but do well in a combat campaign.
I do not really think there is a full caster that would struggle in a combat heavy campaign TBH...unless you picked only utility spells I guess but thats less about class choice and more about the choices therein you mention.
For me the best class is fighter, simply because they've got some good proficiencies such as martial weapons, and i like the fact that they're proficient with all armour.
I see most people get it wrong - but for the best, most reliable fun: barbarian. It's too one-sided, but it's just too damn good at that thing it does. play it for X levels, and if you get bored, switch to bard.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Barbarians are strong at low levels and wizards are strong at high levels.
Barbarians are strong at all levels. Wizards are weak at all levels. But wizards have stinky magic that makes them more powerful than their pitiful biceps warrants.

I think that Paladins are very interesting in two of the three pillars, Roleplay and Combat, and have access to spells like Detect Magic that allow them some fun in the Exploration pillar. All this lends well to them being one of the best classes.
I really love the flexibility of a wizard (who doesn't like magic?)
I really wanted to try a Druid and thought animal shapeshifting would be fun, but didn't want to track all the different stat blocks for each shape. I made a Tortle Circle of Spores Druid and he has been a blast, very tanky and can hit like a truck with consistent damage.

Reliably what? I suppose a class that always has something useful to do! Bard maybe? Very useful in an out of combat. Most fun is wildly subjective. A lot of people prefer casters, other prefer martials. Neither are wrong.
one of my favorite things to do when I'm a player is to make a character OP but... I know the point is to have fun, for example in one of my current campaigns I play a fighter... pretty basic right? No! my character is a crazy fighter halfling, who is evil, slightly insane, crazy OP, rides a mastiff, does mastiff wheelies to inspire his troops, and is widely known as "stubby". though as much as I love doing 679 damage on every turn at lv 12 (yes its a powerful build) ill have to to go artificer because they're so versatile, can make magic items, and are good with weapon but can still cast good spells.
Clerics are superior to paladins so I don’t know why paladins won the vote.

I am a giant cat who lives in the Underdark, I am friends with Master Demigorgon and will not hesitate to eat you. If you survive my deadly bite you will desolve in my horrid stomach acids, if by Jove you manage to survive that, well mr Lucky unkillable John Mclane, I eat my turds.
But rangers….. I’m surprised that they got any votes

Paladins are widely considered the strongest class. Their auras, strong healing with lay on hands, and huge damage potential with smites make them an around great class.

My homebrew subclasses (full list here)

(Bard) College of Dance | (Fighter) Warlord | Cannoneer
(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer

Organic Chemistry was definitely not my favorite either.
To the original question: Probably Cleric.
A good book and a cup of tea.

Voted Rogue because they can do whatever you want them to do and they do good average damage.
You can put em in anything and you will be fine.

where is the base ranger
True! Funny that they’d add mystic to the poll, which never even made it out of UA, without mentioning the 2014 Ranger.

Tasha's made them a very strong class mechanically. They've always been fun conceptually.
Huh can you put a link to tashas class?
