It depends on what you mean by "run it for my friends here" DDB does not (yet) provide VTT (Virtual Table Top) Tools. So there's no interactive map, no real time chat features, etc. The campaign feature lets you do the following:
Add characters to the campaign. This lets you (and usually the other players) see the players' character sheets. It also give the DM the ability to edit those character sheets.
Make notes that only the DM can see. This is a very basic system: a box to enter notes in, with tools that are essentially those you can use when making a post in the forum.
Make notes that anyone in the campaign can see: same limitations as the DM notes
Not yet connected to the campaigns, you can also use the encounter builder to build encounters. You can't "run" encounters yet, in the sense of tracking initiative, hit points, etc., but it does give you quick access to things.
Thanks, yeah I would prefer to play with a physical board, and with physical character sheets, but one of my players invited their boyfriend, who is in a different country.

I have played in person games with 1 remote person. I had a webcam that displayed the group that could be adjusted to show battle mat. Make sure the computer you display the remote person on has good speakers so people don't forget to include them
You will need a virtual tabletop, like Roll20, Foundry VTT, or Fantasy Grounds if you are playing online. Otherwise, yes, you can do it is person, its just like having the book.
My group gets together 2-3 times a month at someone's house. We use a mat, tokens, and minis. Dm uses a physical adventure book most of the time. DndBeyond is used for character sheets and reference.
Recently, half the players started another group so some other friends could play. We use Roll20 with webcams. Dndbeyond is used by most of the players for character sheets and references. They play almost every week.
Why can't I launch the campaign from the sourcebook or adventure? I'm wanting to try Locathah Rising and the characters that are allowed to be used, but I can't create them in the character building and I can't upload them from the Adventure book.

I am not sure what you mean by "launching a campaign", and I do not even think Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds can launch a campaign for you automatically.
If you want to create a campaign on Beyond, you just need to go to <Collections> in the menu bar at the top of the page, click <MY CAMPAIGNS> in the drop down menu, and then click on the big blue <CREATE A CAMPAIGN> button on the new page.
If you want a virtual table top to play D&D using virtual maps and minis, I recommend using Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds instead, as Beyond does not have that functionality. While Beyond has broadened its horizon and plans to build a VTT eventually, its core focus right now is still supporting in person play.
If you want to create a character on Beyond besides the free options in BR/SRD and EEPC, you will need to purchase the character options on Beyond and make sure the "Noncore" content toggle in the character is on (the toggle circle turns red and to the right). Beyond cannot create pregenerated characters either, and while it is probably on their minds to include this feature, this seems pretty low on the priority list.
I have purchased the adventure, and it has playable character's (the Locathah) that it allows players to play. It has sheets to download, but It doesn't seem to allow the Adventure created characters to be uploaded to DnDBeyond or for the race of Locathah to be available for upload. I guess I wish I could click on the adventure, and it has a "start adventure" button that then creates the campaign in "my campaigns" that then allowed for my players to either pull one of the pre-made characters or build a Locathah hero in the campaign.
D&D Beyond doesn't yet support the options to copy characters that you don't own. This is the functionality needed to be able to support pre-made characters in such a campaign.
As a DM with Master sub, I have purchased the full Dragon of icespire Peak box and used the QR code for the free digital version (plus the additional adventures) and also dragons of stormwreck Isle on DDB (NOT the compendium only). They are all visible through sources but am I right in thinking that once purchased, I should then also be able to see these adventures in the "My Campaigns" page so that I can then invite players and add their characters?
I've successfully added the other pre-made campaigns of Prisoner 13, Frozen Sick and intro to stormwreck isle, Lost mine of Phandelver etc which then has invite links, view campaign and options for adding characters , but not for any of the other adventures of icespire peak, it's additional adventures or stormwreck isle.
If they are not meant to be visible on the "My Campaigns" page, how do I invite players to the purchased campaigns and add their characters?

Just select 'Create Campaign' instead of 'Create From Premade Campaigns'. There isn't really any benefit to doing the premade ones aside from it auto filling in the text description, notes and image based on the sample adventures. The premades are setup for new players iirc and only feature the 3.
When I create a campaign, there is no place I can find to import a premade adventure (such as DOIP). Will it have to be a blank campaign and I artificially read the adventure from another screen?
Why can some adventures (such as frozen sick and dragons of stormwreck isle) be directly played from inside the campaign editor and others not?

I'm not sure what you mean by being "directly played from inside the editor." The premade campaigns are only for those adventures that are available for free. But they don't really add any more functionality to the campaign tool. They add a pretty picture and some initial notes to both the DM notes and public notes. The notes do include some links, including a link to the adventure here. But you can do all of that "by hand" in the campaign page. (And a lot of the text is really unnecessary).
I bought the essential's kit, and redeemed my code for "Dragon of Icespire Peak".
Is there a way to run it for my friends here using the campaign portion of this website? Or will I have to run it elsewhere?
I've really only used this website for researching spells and monsters, never actually used it to play.

The character sheets are better than most other sites though, so I recommend using this site alongside a VTT or at a physical table.
The encounter tracker (battle tracker) is currently in development, so should start seeing that in a few weeks.
