Depends on the drum. Objects of that size would have anywhere from 1-18 hp depending on how resilient it is. (DMG, 1d6 regular, 3d6 for a resilient version) Then, it depends on the damage rolled by the paladin. If it's enough to get it to zero, it's destroyed. If not, it's heavily damaged. Either way, it's going to get thrown 10ft or bashed into the ground (prone), along with an audible boom from the thunderous smite.
Rules as written, you are making a weapon attack roll against the object’s AC, triggering the effects of the smite spell on a hit, and destroying the object if your damage exceeds the HPs of the object. Based on the tables for HPs and AC of objects in the DMG, I would guess that a gong would have 19 AC (iron/steel object) and either 3d6 or 4d8 HPs depending on if it is a small or medium sized gong.
I’m guessing the answer you want is that the thunder sound and the gong sound magnify each other, but there is no specific rule that would govern this interaction. As such, you need to talk to you DM and see if he is willing to homebrew a rule that will work for what you want to do.
Yeah I'm pretty sure a regular drum would be destroyed or at least rendered unplayable.
That being said, there could certainly be magical objects enchanted specifically to amplify sound or to enhance the effect of certain spells. Would be a pretty cool thing to have in a temple to a thunder god or something.
They turn into a bard playing Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. ;)
Fun fact, a single timpani (just one of those drums, not the whole set you usually see in an orchestra) weight up to 140 pounds. So if your DM decides a drum is subjected to the 10 feet of being thrown, that's a pretty significant ranged weapon you've created!
I'm now imagining a trebuchet using large orchestral instruments as ammunition. Timpani. Harp. Piano. Pipe Organ. Baritone vocal soloist...

Hello im wondering what would happen if a drum was hit with thunderous smite
Depends on the drum. Objects of that size would have anywhere from 1-18 hp depending on how resilient it is. That part of the spell only applies to creatures.
Anyways if you hit a drum with a weapon and subject it to an explosion you'll probably end up losing your drum in addition to your spell slot.
If you're looking for some cool interaction that's not written into the rules you should direct the question at your DM.
