As we prepare for our very exciting move to join the Wizards of the Coast family, it's time to do some spring cleaning! We're tidying up, and it's come to our attention that some content has not been placed in their proper books, meaning that you may have access to some content you wouldn't normally have access to.
As a part of our spring cleaning and a new data update, this is going to be fixed! Now, you might be worried: If you have content on your character or in an encounter already, and it disappears because of our eager modrons, will you lose access? Fear not! If you already have this content on your characters or encounters, they will not be impacted. However, if you later remove the content from your character or encounter, you won't be able to put it back onto your character unless you own or have shared to you the source that content belongs to.
This change should have no big impact on your use of the site, or your games currently being played. Just in case, the planned clean-up will be taking place on the 12th May at 10:00am Pacific Time (PT) If you encounter any untoward issues at or following that time, please post here so that our Artificers can take a look.
Here is a list of the content being corrected, and in what ways they will be adjusted during the data clean-up:
Re-Sourced -
A Re-Sourced entry is one that has been moved from the Basic Rules to the Listed Source, Access to it will be through owning or being shared its new source. If an entry was already present on a character sheet, it will be retained until the entry is removed by the user manually.
The homunculus servant, steel defender, and improved steel defender stat blocks that are currently in the system are the ones that were published in Eberron: Rising from the Last War.
When Tasha's Cauldron of Everything was released, it included a number of errata changes for the Artificer class, including updates to these creatures.
Unfortunately, the changes made the stat blocks dynamic in a way they weren't before.
e.g. The Steel Defender has Hit Points, Saving Throws, Skills, attack bonus, damage, and actions - all based on the Proficiency Bonus of the character the Steel Defender belongs to.
We just aren't able to model these dynamic stat blocks with our system.
At the time, a decision was made to leave the old stat blocks in place, until we were able to get code in place to properly model these dynamic statblocks.
In review however, this has led to a situation where players are adding these incorrect, old stat blocks to their characters and not realising that they are incorrect. We're now in a situation where we realise we'd rather have less support for a feature, than to present incorrect rules.
We're looking at implementing an update for the Battle Smith subclass, to display the calculated Steel Defender stats in the actions section of the character sheet, along with the ability to track the hit points of it. I have an Artificer character myself so I understand the pain and we want to make things as usable as possible.
Is DDB planning to pursue attempts to fully implement the Homunculus Servant, Steel Defender, etc. as dynamic statblocks, or is that being tabled? I ask because I have been holding off on implementing/updating some of my homebrew until the dynamic statblocks went live, but if those are no longer being pursued I have no reason to continue waiting and May as well try to figure something else out. Thank you in advance for the information.

What do you mean by “Dynamic Stat Blocks”?
Like the way the Steel Defender and Homunculus Servant are supposed to work. Statblocks that, when in a character sheet’s Extras section, will update things like attack modifiers, damage bonuses, etc. based on the PC’s spell attack modifier and Proficiency bonuses.
You are a Gem and one of the best things for this forum Thank you for all the reasonable well-areticulated participation you consistently give this community.
I may have freaked out internally with one of the changes above but that totally makes sense.
Here's an example of what we're working on for the Battlesmith's Steel Defender.
This is my Drakewarden (Ranger) character - you can see here how there is a snippet, in the actions section, that presents the stats for the Drake Companion. These stats are calculated, based on the character, and will automatically update, as the character levels up. I can also track the hit points via the - and +.
Timer is working on this, and we're hopeful to be able to align the update of the Battlesmith with the update on Thursday.
I implemented something similar in my (unpublished) homebrew Artificer subclass, to finagle a bonus action for the Homunculus Servant. It works quite well, if you're able to have Infusions add actions.

I just homebrewed each one at the appropriate level as a temporary fix. Not sure why dnd beyond doesn't implement this as a solution given it takes less than 2 hours to do and there are community members (like myself) that have already done the work but get rejected when we try to publish it.

Because they also depend on your Artificer's INT modifier & spell attack modifier, which are not going to be the same for everyone at each level of Artificer. And if you multiclass, your PB isn't going to match up with the expected Artificer levels. The better way to do it for yourself is to make your own homebrewed monster and Edit it every time you level up.

That's right I forgot about the parts dependent on Int modifier and Artificer level.

PB is unaffected by multi-classing.
Correct, but it does mean that you can't be sure what PB a 1st-level Artificer has.

Is this fix a temporary solution until these sorts of creatures (including the Beastmaster Ranger's primal companions) can be implemented in the Extras section? Or is the long term intent to put them in the actions section? And if so, will the attacks from such companions be rollable?
Timer from the Lorekeepers Team here. This work has now been completed!
As my manager Stormknight said above, as part of this work i have added a new element to the Battlesmith to show the scaling stats of the Steel Defender in the Actions section of the character sheet.
This is our current solution to this problem, but as with all things we will grow, develop and adapt as new tools become available. I hope for now this provides for all your Robot Friend needs!

Thanks for your work and for sharing this. I'm guessing that the attack, damage, and healing options there are clickable to make rolls with digital dice; that's a big deal and very helpful. But what about saving throws they don't get proficiency in and skill checks? Having the base attributes and proficient skills listed on the stat blocks in the extras tab lets us calculate those without having to check the artificer class page and many of us even use the stat blocks to directly make saving throws and ability checks using tools like beyond20. Any chance attributes and skills might be accessible from this display in the future?

Neat (get it?)
Call me Blond. James Blond.
Why are homunculus servant, steel defender, and improved steel defender being archived? Shouldn't they just be re-sourced to TCoE and/or E:RftLW?
Wait, isn’t the Homunculus Servant and the Steel defenders part of some of the Artificer subclasses?
