Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Let's add some movement then. (Only have so many spell slots and then a second bear to fight. So... back to cantrips!)
Seeing how poorly his attack went, Garagas seeks to head towards the ladder. Knowing the bear will follow he hesitates, but he makes his way to his goal.
Movement: N2 -> H2. Bonus Action: If the bear's attack of opportunity hits for 6+ damage, he'll use Healing Word
The Polar Bear (36/42) takes an AoO
Bite Attack 27, Damage 10
Polar Bear would be at 41/42 I think. (1 from the caltrop. But the 6 from Inflict Wounds was only 11 against a 12 AC, right? So it wouldn't have hit.)
Another nat 20. Ouch.
(mentioned I'd cast this if the AoO hit for 6+) Healing Word: 4+5 = 9, so Garagas is at 15
I missed the 11 to hit, you're right 41/42
I'm guessing the polar bear will be moving towards Garagas at I2 and making its attacks.
To speed things up (busier this night) gonna post Garagas' actions if he survives that and couple conditioned on if the polar bear makes some certain moves.
Garagas disengages and speeds down the ladder, seeking to begin a life-or-death chase, and heads to J3. Athletics: (to flourish down green ladder) 14+5 = 19, flourished successfully
Assuming polar bear charges from I1, I2, J1, J2 to E7, E8, F7, F8 (or similar if I'm off by a couple squares)
Garagas invokes divine power and utters an invocation at the bear before putting more distance between himself and the best.
With the beast at him once more, Garagas disengages again and ascends the pink ladder to the ramparts. Ascend: x + 5 >= 5, ascended successfully Move P3 -> S3 -> P2
Assuming bear charges up yellow ramp to T1, T2, U1, U2
Garagas casts another sacred flame and heads towards the green ladder once more.
Atherna, the bugbear Wizard wielding a +1 rapier and protected only by armor of invisible force, approaches the polar bear (Encounter 2C) that she knows is at the Old Keep. Unlike her brother, who she has come to avenge, she makes use of her fey ancestry, her magically lightened steps making no sound despite her large form. She has learned from his brother's mistakes, and so prepares for the inevitable battle accordingly; earlier, she casted mage armor and rested well, and now she drinks a potion of heroism- a tactic that worked well for her brother (usually).
(Considering the polar bear is literally incapable of rolling higher than either of those, I hope you don't mind me being a bit proactive and taking my two turns. Oh, and I forgot that she has an owl familiar as well. Owl's Initiative: 4 [3 + 1])
Springing into action as soon as she sees the oblivious target of her vengeance, Atherna flicks a gold coin into the air, which then shatters into three hypoallergenic missiles that whistle towards her foe. Unfortunately, the instability of the spell causes it to backfire, sending all of the missiles whistling right back towards their creator. Undeterred, she moves about the top of the wall, gliding along with such detail and precision that it almost looks like she's dancing. In the meantime, her owl swoops right in front of the bear's face, leaving its reach before it has a chance to attack.
Atherna's Turn: Action: Jim's magic missile: Nat 1, 3 force damage to Atherna Bonus Action: Bladesong Movement: Start at W14, move 40 feet to S19
Owl's Turn: Movement: Start at W9, fly 45 feet or so to be on R9, 10 feet above ground Action: Help, next attack against polar bear has advantage Movement: Fly 15 feet to be on P11, 15 feet above ground
Just as the polar bear starts to get wise to the situation, Atherna flicks another coin into the air and sends three gluten-free missiles whistling towards it, taking advantage of her owl's distraction.

A third nat 20? XD That's just not fair. :P (Since tone/etc can be hard sometimes via a written medium, I do want to mention I'm smiling and laughing as I type this.)
As the claws tear into him, Garagas looks up at the sky one last time and whispers an almost silent prayer, "Avenge me."
Not sure how much longer you're planning on running T2, but is there time for me to remake Garagas a little bit and try for it again? Thinking I'll just load him up on Inflict Wounds, Guiding Bolt, and Healing Word scrolls and whatnot and just try brute-forcing it. Not gonna plan for trying to create an intricate kite situation this time. Probably try to get off a couple Guiding Bolts if I can and slog through with the Inflict Wounds once the bear closes melee. Just want to see if I can get vengeance on those darn polar bears before T3 starts. :D
Looking at a Harengon Druid, either Circle of Spores or Circle of Stars for T3. (As a question, thinking of possibly trying to use manacles as a metal for Heat Metal and curious if it's possible to clamp those on mid-combat and with what skill.)

Yep. And with the 19 damage from that attack alone (my max HP) wouldn't have even mattered if I'd healed up with healing words at some point. Heck add the 8 from the previous attack and even if I was at full health with a potion of heroism it wouldn't be looking pretty. XD
The Tiger (27/37) takes some cold damage and bites back, Bite Attack 21, Damage 10
The tiger gets Rime good and she barely escapes his jaws. Luckily her icy armor caught half of the force but she is not going to survive many of those bites. The tiger receives another 5 damage from armor of agathys (which is now spent). Rime lunges forward again to pierce the tiger’s pelt.
Attack: 24 Damage: 9
She attacks with her Rapier and, if and only if she's been bitten again, she draws on her inner reserves to restore her resolve against the tiger (BA Second Wind).
Action: Attack: 9 Damage: 8 (if advantage due to the trigger of Silvery Barbs: 25, additional damage if the advantage roll results in a critical hit: 3.) Bonus Action (if she'd been bitten again): Second Wind: heal 5 HP

Bite Attack 22, Damage 10
Rime’s attack misses and she tries to refocus (5hp healed). If the Tiger hits again (crit or not) she will cast Silvery Barbs.

Missile 1: 12 (4,4 + 5 + 3) to hit, 10 (4 + 6) force damage Missile 2: 19 (10 + 5 + 4) to hit, 15 (4 + 11) force damage Missile 3: 22 (16 + 5 + 1) to hit, 8 (2 + 6) force damage Either the polar bear or the owl goes now, depends on the polar bear's initiative.
Apologies for the delays, let's go with the new character.
Polar Bear initiative: 16
The sad Polar Bear (12/42) double moves up the Yellow Ramp to get as close as possible
(I think that would bring it to W11?)
The annoying Owl (1/1) gives chase to the bear, attempting to distract it from the real threat that is the angry Bugbear (23/16). With the uttering of a word, the sound of bells tolling can be heard around the bear.
Owl's Turn: Movement: Fly 60 feet or so to V15, 40 feet above ground
Atherna's turn: Action: Toll the dead: DC 13 Wisdom save or 4 necrotic damage Movement: 35 feet to L1
>> Movement: 35 feet to L1 Didn't you start this turn on S19?
Atherna, the bugbear Wizard wielding a +1 rapier and protected only by armor of invisible force, approaches the polar bear (Encounter 2C) that she knows is at the Old Keep. Unlike her brother, who she has come to avenge, she makes use of her fey ancestry, her magically lightened steps making no sound despite her large form. She has learned from his brother's mistakes, and so prepares for the inevitable battle accordingly; earlier, she casted mage armor and rested well, and now she drinks a potion of heroism- a tactic that worked well for her brother (usually).
Stealth: 24 (19 + 5) Initiative: 20 (17 + 3)

Wisdom Save DC 13 vs 2
Assuming you meant L19, The Polar Bear (8/42) double moves along the wall, starting W11, ending N19
(Assuming there's still time to finish the T2. Got Garagas Gathakanathi... Jr Swapped the racial bonus from +2 STR to +2 WIS Reworked the stats to be +3 WIS, +2 STR, -1 INT (needed 15 STR for the [Tooltip Not Found] Got a bunch of scrolls and some splint armor plus 1 potion of heroism. If I did the math right he has 22 gold left. Adjusted the XP down to 300.)
Garagas Gathakanathi Jr, answering a yearning he feels in his bones like some whisper from a ghost, heads out and finds the old keep. As he gets to the base of the vines something tells him he is embarking on a quest to avenge his father. He drinks a potion of heroism, grabs a scroll of bane in his hand, and ascends to X7 to do battle with his foe.
Rime attacks with her rapier and calls on her ancestral blood to toughen her skin (Blade Ward as bonus action - 1/2 uses)
Attack: 14 Damage: 4
reaction: Silvery Barbs on a critical hit
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
|| Oriace - Halfling Bard - Dragon Heist || Valerian - Elf Rogue - Wildnis || Rowan - Halfling Giant - Runewarren || Khazela - Spiritfarer Dervish - Tribute || Arista - Frost Sorcerer - Old Keep || Marasatra - Blood Mage - Avernus ||
Sacred Flame: 8
DEX save: 12
Movement: J3 -> P3
Assuming bear charges to N4, N5, O4, O5
With the beast at him once more, Garagas disengages again and ascends the pink ladder to the ramparts.
Ascend: x + 5 >= 5, ascended successfully
Move P3 -> S3 -> P2
Assuming bear charges up yellow ramp to T1, T2, U1, U2
Garagas casts another sacred flame and heads towards the green ladder once more.
Sacred Flame: 2
DEX save: 12
Movement: P2 -> O1 -> N2 (avoiding caltrops on O2) -> J2
Assuming bear charges to K1, K2, L1, L2
Garagas disengages and heads down the green ladder once more.
Movement: J2 -> F3 -> H3
Flourish Ladder: athletics 4+5 = 9
9 < 10, flourish failed

The dizzy Polar Bear (41/42) makes two Dexterity Saves DC 12 vs 17, 5
The anxious Polar Bear (39/42) leaps off the wall taking 2d6 (8) falling damage and attacks,
Bite Attack 18, Damage 8
Claw Attack 27, Damage 19
A third nat 20? XD
That's just not fair. :P
(Since tone/etc can be hard sometimes via a written medium, I do want to mention I'm smiling and laughing as I type this.)
Time roll death saving throws.
(Using the d20)
7, 16, 6, 15 (oh I'm feeling tense) 7
Welp! That's 3 failures.

Not just a third nat 20 but also roll 6 twice for crit damage. I was scratching my head on that one too.
Yep. And with the 19 damage from that attack alone (my max HP) wouldn't have even mattered if I'd healed up with healing words at some point. Heck add the 8 from the previous attack and even if I was at full health with a potion of heroism it wouldn't be looking pretty. XD

Bite Attack 14, Damage 8
1-50 The Giant Scorpion wanders off. Barri Madhand lives to fight another day!
51-100 The dwarf is consumed by a very hungry, Giant Scorpion.

The Tiger (37/37) will double move up the Yellow Stairs, to get as close as possible for melee range.
(I think that would bring it to W11?)
The annoying Owl (1/1) gives chase to the bear, attempting to distract it from the real threat that is the angry Bugbear (23/16). With the uttering of a word, the sound of bells tolling can be heard around the bear.
