I would like to add a new custom class feature (an additional feature, and not a revision to any existing features), to a character.
Is there a way to just add a bonus class feature to an existing character, other than to create a new custom class, using the existing class as a template and then add the new feature to the custom class?
I want to add an extra custom ability to a ranger archetype. This for a character in a campaign I am running, so I want it to be displayed on the character sheet for the character. I was just hoping there was a nice quick and easy way to add a custom feature to an existing character, without having to create a new class from an existing template -- which I am fine with doing as well -- I just wanted to know if there was a short cut.
It really all depends on what precisely you are trying to accomplish since some stuff is only possible in a subclass or race, but as long as what you want to do is possible I agree with scatterbraind that it would probably be simpler to add it to that character as a feat.
They way i add features or abilities on beyond , just so it will show up for ease of remembering , is to go to the actions tab and click on manage custom - do general - then edit and change activation type to Special. Name it and give it a description and you should see it pop up on your sheet. For example with the new 2024 rule set , on beyond if you are playing a Chrono wizard sub , it currently will not give you the chrono sub option under wizard if you pick the new core version when creating a character. You still have to use the 2014 version for it to show up so I'm going into my 2014 chrono wizard sheet and adding in the new things like Memorize Spell , etc etc. So now when i look at my sheet , right next to arcane recovery i can see memorize spell using the method i described.

I imagine you could build the feature as a feat and add that.
That depends, do you mean “class” or “subclass,” and what do you want it to do?

I would typically do this as a magic item or feat rather than messing around with the class.
My homebrew subclasses (full list here)
(Artificer) Swordmage | Glasswright | (Barbarian) Path of the Savage Embrace
(Bard) College of Dance | (Fighter) Warlord | Cannoneer
(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer
(Rogue) DaggerMaster | Inquisitor | (Sorcerer) Riftwalker | Spellfist
(Warlock) The Swarm
