Eggo Lass gets a giddy look on her face. "I wonder if the same applies to living creatures. Quick! Let's find a rat or something!" She takes a look around the room for any signs of small creatures to throw into the void.
Eggo Lass finds no critters in the room, which makes sense considering they'd have to have either survived 158 years in this dungeon, or made their way all the way from the first dungeon through to this one.
"Perhaps we will stumble across an unexpected solution to this conundrum. If it is a shadow weave portal to the next dungeon, it seems unusual. If need be I can examine it further with some preparation."
Eggo Lass frowns in disappointment at not finding any test subjects. Oh well. "Very well." she says to the idea of continuing exploration. She turns to Graelor, "Want to lead? I could be right behind you in case of any darkness." Turning to Salamander she adds, "And would you be able to watch the rear? I could offer guidance on that task."
"Gawwwww!" He moans, disappointed to see neither much come out of the chest neither any rat or critter in the room. Animal sacrifice was not his forte but he was not above using animal's lives for his own amusement. In fact he did it all the time. 'Yeah like the time with the frog-'
"Yess." He rubs his grubby hands together. "I will watch the rear."
He summons the Dust Devil to move behind him, trailing him as he walks, and also bringing forth the bear spirit to envelop them for those sweet temporary hit points.
Graelor presses his ear against the southern door from which the Orc escaped, but hears nothing at first. He can hear a distant, underlying noise from somewhere near by, but it's far enough away that he can't even discern what the source is, let alone which direction it comes from.
You enter into the 'main' room of the Observatory, a smaller chamber with a very large iron telescope stretching across the room and out of the stone ceiling. The room is otherwise fairly bare; two doors are at either side of the dungeon, and now that you're inside, characters with 12+ Passive Perception can pick up on the murmurings of a conversation in the Eastern room. You can't discern what's being said, and can barely decipher who's talking, but you assume it's between the Orc that fled and another person.
Sly peers at the telescope with some interest, but waits until someone else enters the room first. The tiefling does not notice the murmuring and is busy making a note about the astronomical equipment in her book.
To the others, she says: "I suspect that is the famous telescope of Tazriacksta. Begs the question of where the dwarf himself resides, if he is still alive. After all, legends tell that he was inseparable from his beloved stargazing instrument."
"I highly doubt my kin would've failed in their task against the would-be usurper." says Eggo Lass in reply to Sly, taking a bit of racial pride in this dungeon's history.
With the murmurs beyond the door she switches over to telepathy, (Shall we take care of that orc? I'd assume he's trying to get reinforcement as opposed to some happy-go-lucky conversation over tea.)
She's ready to approach the door stealthily to try getting the drop on the occupants beyond.
I will stay behind Eggo Lass. Graelor is aware and perceptive, but noisy. Graelor will follow at a quiet distance and warn Eggo Lass if I hear or see anything.
Sly isn't very stealthy, so she too will stay back after she realizes what Eggo is planning. A precisely aimed fire quill will get the job done even from far away, after all.
With the murmurings, Salamander's ears perk up. "Oi oi oi." He crawls in on all fours. He heads no mind to the conversation before him (it goes 'blah blah blah observatory blah blah blah kin something something supper'). All ears were on that orc. 'Grr.'That stupid stupid orc. He didn't get to finish him off. A wild smile gets all plastered across his face.
"Yes. Yes. Yes. No tea. Only bite- I mean fight."He pants like a dog. "Go!"
Raising his arms up and throwing himself into a wavelike motion, he moves the Dust Devil into the room to (hopefully) surprise the orc and the other fella before Eggo Lass would arrive just to confuse the hells out of them and give her cover (as long as Eggo Lass makes the first move that she wants to go and attack the orcs. The Dust Devil will be backup). They can't see what's about to hit them if there's dust in their eyes! At least that was his thought process.
He also makes sure that the bear spirit is also surrounding his team, though much of his mind was elsewhere.
Eggo Lass gets a giddy look on her face. "I wonder if the same applies to living creatures. Quick! Let's find a rat or something!" She takes a look around the room for any signs of small creatures to throw into the void.

When the party is ready, Graelor will lead the group south toward the door that the orc escaped into. I rolled a 14 for a PERCEPTION check.
I listen at the south door. Do I hear anything?

[Ah, chalk it up to Slys mistrustful and suspicious nature 😁, she probably doesn't believe everything the shadow weave "says"]
