Doozey pulls a spell from deep within his arcane well and slathers a Protection from Poison on his person, ready to make a sacrifice of his own. He then dismounts from Biscuit, stepping on remains from the orc that went BOOM. The gives the mastiff his orders, who then proceeds to biteRaist's clothes and pull him into the cave as best as he can (a bit shy of the intended squares.)
Enraged by the darts thrown at her, Ruse takes a detour on her way to the cave. She rushes the orc with the dragon helm and swings her thunder-empowered axe at him twice. His head is lopped off at the end of the second swing. Ruse then grabs a javelin from her back and circles around a kobold tent. Once she emerges on the other side of the tent, the javelin flies and skewers the brain of one of the long-clawed orcs (the one who had been severely scratched by the owlbear).
From high above, Krulek screams infuriated: "Jeralla! Get to Jeralla!". He then lets loose three bundled-together arrows in a single release of his bowstring, impaling another one of the long-clawed orcs and claiming her life. Unlike his earlier shot, these arrows don't seem empowered by radiant light.
Inside the cave, the warband's second-in-command gets a nod from Narle and spurs his worg into a quick maneuver that sees the beast leaping over the campfire in the chamber and running to reach Jeralla. Upon getting within range, he wastes no time in slashing her twice with his axe, but the dragonborn sorcerer raises an Arcane Shield to preserve her life.
(OOC: Pausing here for now to leave some room for reactions.)
After her Shield disappears, Jeralla immediately begins casting a new spell, calling on Tiamat to empower her escape. A few arcane words later, Jeralla disappears.
(OOC: Pausing here again for good measure. Does anyone want to use their reaction? This includes rolling a reaction arcana check to see if you recognize which spell Jeralla just cast.)
Raist sees Jeralla doing something obviously arcane in nature and not caring what the particular spells is reacts with counterspell (6th level) ((con save.17))
@Neya: You have seen this spell before. In fact, you saw it just a moment ago when Raist and Utar caught up to you almost immediately after you made your way down to this cave. Jeralla is trying to escape with a Dimension Door spell.
@Raist: You instinctively flick your wrist in a dismissal gesture, knowing that whatever Jeralla is trying to do needs to be stopped.
Once again, Jeralla forces her way through the Counterspell attempt. She succeed in creating a Dimension door and vanishing from sight. There is no way to tell where she might have reappeared within a 500ft range.
"NOOO!" Narle barks, looking for someone to blame. "Them!" he says pointing at CRAP. "Kill them!"
Narle spurs his mount, forcing the worg to dash toward CRAP. The fey beast's advance is interrupted by the CRAPer in the most advanced position, who happens to serve as a mount as well. The "monster-fied" orc leans forward with the intention to dispatch Biscuit:
With no way of knowing where Jeralla teleported herself to, Utar considers turning his magical radar back on, but given the numbers of orcs, not to mention worgs, in front of him, he suspects this might be a time when adding to CRAP's numbers might be the better play.
Move: Utar stays put.
Action: Upcast spirit guardians at 4th level. Is it just me, or have they been working out? DC18 Wis save on enemy creatures in a 15ft emanation or they take 4d8 radiant damage, half damage on a save, all members of CRAP, including Raist and Biscuit are immune. Enemies inside the emanation have their speed halved.
Bonus: N/a.
(OOC Whelp, at least Utar is free to bring another concreatration spell to the party, right? Right?)
(OOC: Trying again. I'll split the post so I don't lose as much if I miss-click again. Also, I'm confirming here that concentration on Locate Creature was dropped.)
Neya steps forward and distributes the hurt among enemy rider and mount. The former whimpers after each hit, but the latter manages to deflect one of the attacks. (Worg#1 takes 23 bludgeoning damage; Narle Shieldbiter takes 9 bludgeoning damage.)
Raist then flicks an Ice Knife at the lupine fey creature, letting the projectile explode in many sharp shards afterwards. Biscuit is caught in the spray but the shards fail to bypass the mastiff's thick coat. (Worg#1 takes 14 cold damage; Narle Shieldbiter takes 5 cold damage.)
Utar calls forth his Spirit Guardians, remarking on their recent gains! All four are here to join the party, and the hafling fighter, Burga, is the first to act. She tries to smash her morningstar against the worg's foremost paw, but the creature manages to mostly pull it out of the crash trajectory. Abet, the firbolg barbarian, is more accurate when smashing his greatclub against Narle's chest. (Worg#1 takes 5 radiant damage; Narle Shieldbiter takes 11 radiant damage.)
The four non-mounted orcs within the cave advance and attack:
The one wearing a dragon helm takes a few steps to gain some speed and then launches two simultaneous darts at Neya. You can tell that his darts are empowered by some otherworldly force:
The pus-filled one rushes into Utar's spell range, taking a crossbow shot to the gut from Grewalt, the human ranger, but not stopping to recognize the pain. (Pus-filled Orc #5 takes 19 radiant damage.) He squeezes past Neya, getting slower as he goes, and wields his pus-riddled knife against Raist:
The orc with enlarged tusks also moves forward to gain momentum for a ranged attack or two, before taking a sidestep to gain cover around a cave corner:
-> Javelin vs. Utar: Attack: 20 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
-> If Guiding Bolt was a hit, then this first javelin attack should be rolled with advantage. If so, here's the extra roll: 24
You then hear this same orc shout something in their native tongue. Three other orcs respond by attacking CRAP once more. The pus-filled one swipes his knife against Raist again, the dart-throwing orc launches another one at Neya, and Narle himself brings his misshapen blade down on his most recent attacker:
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Neya moves so fast while staying in place that the first two darts thrown at her simply crash against the cave wall nearby. The same is true for the third eventual dart, but all this dodging takes the monk's attention away when Narle's blade comes swinging. (Neya takes 7 slashing damage.)
Raist casts Shield (reference) but can't quite avoid the second knife stab made against him, despite the few seconds afforded to him in between shanks. (Raist takes 5 piercing and necrotic damage.)
The Guiding Bolt launched at Utar is so ill-aimed that it passes whizzing by Doozey outside. One of the javelin attacks that follows is successful, however. Utar grunts a bit when he realizes his defenses were breached. (Utar takes 8 piercing damage.)
(OOC: I didn't want to risk getting a manipulation warning in the previous post to fix the error in the first javelin attack's damage roll. So, I used the damage roll from the second javelin attack here. Since it missed, that damage roll would be dismissed otherwise anyway.)
