Ah. I feel it should be a 1d8 neutral type with Int as primary stat. More akin in nerd:meathead ratio to Artificers and Warlocks. I think Psionics is a mind/body thing more than just a mind thing. I mean, yeah, mindmagic, but it must take some Con to withstand all those nose leads 11 gets. There seems like some significant physical exertion involved for sure. That’s why I say let the Wiz reign supreme in the “we can do anything” category and let Psionicists be the “we have the potential to do anything until we pick a subclass” folks.
If you ever played the older editions? A metaphors might be Major Access to a Sphere and Minor Access to a couple others, and each of the 6 subclasses correlates to one of 6 total spheres. Only instead of each sphere containing dozens of spells, each would only need a about a half dozen “powers” that grow organically with class level.
See thats where we differ. I could potentially see a 1d8 maybe but i dont feel like it should inherently be as physically demanding until you pick a subclass that leans more towards that. But i also feel like more things should have a d6 hit die (im looking at you Rouge, you slipper little basta-)

That’s a good point. I don’t think it should automatically be physically demanding either. I donfeel like Wizards are bookwormish by nature, but a Psionicist is not tied to that same kind of academia by nature. It’s more “practice” than “study.” And regardless of either of our opinions, the 1d8 is the “average” HD in 5e.
I could see there being room for both a more martial-aligned psionic class and a glass-cannon type similar to how we have the Cleric and the Paladin; that would address one of the complaints of the Mystic, which was that it could do everything. That said, with my understanding of how WotC approaches new class design I don't think we'd get more than one class, at least not all at once.
I don’t think we need more than one psionic class, those variations could be in the subclassses. That’s why I figured on the d8, it was halfway between the Wiz’s d6 and the Paladin/Ranger d10. Puts it on par with Clerics, Artificers, Warlocks, etc.
I think we should have 2 different psionic classes, the main one, as the Psion(icist), and another as a "Half-Caster" but for psionics. I am fine with a Psionic Fighter Subclass, and Soul Knife Rogue existing, but there has to be a class.

What if they did Psionic subclasses for the other classes instead of a second half-Psionicist class?
Oh, I agree 100%, I'm just saying I think there's enough room to have two, potentially. That aside, yeah, a d8 hit die would make the ideal middle ground here.

I agree there’s room for both too, but we’re gonna be lucky to get 1 so I ain’t tryin’a be greedy. I’ll shoot for the middle ground and hope for the best. “5e design philosophy” and all that.

The way I see it, the Psychic Warrior and Soul Knife are "3rd Casters" and a half-caster would have to be a different class. Kind of like how Arcane Tricksters are 1/3rd casters, Paladins are 1/2 casters, and so on.

I got that. I meant instead of a 1/2 caster, just make a 1/3 caster for every class. It seems they want to do that anyway, so I’m willing to accept it as long as I get one Psionicist class.
I posted a little while back trying to gauge how much interest there really was in the community for a full psionics class, and from the looks of this thread there still seems to be quite a lot despite Wizards decision to halt all work on its previous Mystic design. As I mentioned in my previous post, I've been working on not just one but two full psionics homebrew classes which I intend to post on the DM's Guild. I've already gotten some great feedback from some other players, DM's, and DNDBeyond forum users, but I would love to have a few more people review the material and maybe do some play testing before I post it publicly. I have pulled heavily from 3rd edition (and 3.5) as well as from the numerous Unearthed Arcana articles on the Mystic and the most recent psionic subclasses. Here's a little brief on what I've put together for those who might be interested:
The primary base class is the Psion and it has six fully fleshed out subclasses, one for each of the psionic Sciences. It is a full caster class that does use spells but it approaches magic quite differently than wizards or sorcerers, viewing the Weave as a source of raw energy which they primarily use to fuel and augment their natural psychic abilities. Basically, it treats spell slots as an expendable resource rather than simply as spells, allowing the spell slots to be spent in a number of ways to boost their core psychic abilities rather than just for casting. I brought back a lot of old favorites as well, including psi crystals and astral constructs.
The second base class is the Psychic Warrior which is a half caster class with three completed subclasses: the Immortal (very tanky), the Ghost Blade (yeah, this was the soulknife which I had to rename after the last few psionics UA's), and the Ravager. I'm going to let you guys speculate on that last one but I think you'll dig it. The Psychic Warrior relies primarily on a psionic focus mechanic through which they channel their psychic power inwards to augment their physical abilities for short periods of time.
If anyone is interested in taking a look, just shoot me a private message. I really look forward to people's feedback and I hope I can get this out to everyone on the DM's Guild soon.
Thanks for the question, I should have clarified a little further in my previous post. Yes, the psion I designed does still use spells and I realize that a lot of psionics fans would prefer to see something that uses a points/powers based system instead. And I played around with that quite a bit. But in the end, given that so much of what we want a psion to be able to do does already exist in game as spells, I decided that using the existing spells and spell system was a much simpler and smoother solution to integrating this new class into the existing 5e system rather than trying to recreate a large number of abilities that are already available. So instead I focused on how psions approach spellcasting and how their abilities might change the way some spells work. As an example, a Telepath does not need any verbal or somatic component to cast spells belonging to the science of Telepathy, they just do it. And the telekinetic subclass can vastly augment the strength and utility of the basic mage hand cantrip.
The points/powers based system is the entire point of D&D style Psionics from a game mechanic perspective and remains, pretty much, as the one thing Psionics fans are asking for. That’s not to say that you should stop you’re work or to not post your homebrew in the forums, just know that the mechanics your proposing are not what psionics fans are after.
I think thats inherently the problem with psionics in 5e. People are so hard pressed that it not even touch the effects that already exist in spell casting, and that is just simply ridiculous and unnecessary

Sposta and I have explained many times why we don't think Spellcasting should be used to be Psionics in 5e. The fact that you don't agree with this opinion doesn't make it ridiculous and unnecessary. Opinions are normally not something that is incorrect or true. It's just a personal feeling, and your opinion is also "ridiculous and unnecessary" to my opinion.

Do they use Spellcasting as a mechanic? Or are their powers represented by spells in any way
