Is it not BS that there are some of us sitting here with thousands of dollars in books and these guys are selling us a new PH, DM Guide, and MM? I have all three and now I have to pay another almost 200 just because they decided to update some stuff they should have done years ago. I'm just about done with DnD at this point, it's become just another cash grab and it's embarrassing to watch the game I love descend into this.

Rather than inaccurately ranting about feeling somehow hurt by the publishers of D&D, you may want to reflect and examine why you feel you "have to" buy the refreshed core books.

Mate,
You can continue to play 5E as it was actualized in 2014 forever. The same as you can play 4E, 3.5, 3, 2nd, 1st or Original. This isn't a videogame where the balance patch changes the fundamental of the game itself and the version of the (thing) is gone forever because of a balance update.
It's also not like it's never happened before. The time from Original to 1 was "3" years, 1 to 2 was 12 years, 2 to 2 revised was 6 years, and revised to 3 was 5 years. Then, the consumers got screwed for a bit because 3 to 3.5 was 3 years, 3.5 to 4 was 5 years and 4 to 5 was 6 years. This is the longest we've had a major version of D&D since 2nd edition.
Also, let's face facts my guy. This is a consumer product. It's ALWAYS been a cash grab. That's how consumerism works. This website has been sold twice since the inception of 5th.
I'm not saying you don't have a valid gripe in the sense that 5th edition is changing and spending more money on a thing sucks. What I am saying is the foundation of your gripe isn't founded in facts.
I bought the core books later because I had to await the translation. Where I live I can't ask the English-languange version, and I would rather my own languange.

You’ve got some serious mixed messages here. On the one hand you’re complaining about them rebalancing the game by releasing new books and on the other you’re saying these changes should have happened years ago, in which case you’d still have had to buy new books but it would have been in a different year. Which are you actually angry about or is it just “I’m on the internet so therefore I must complain”?
Here's a secret most people don't know - the D&D police aren't going to come to your house and confiscate your old books. You can still play old 5e. You can still play any previous edition. This has always been true.
Even if you like the changes, you don't have to buy the books. No one can stop you from just implementing your favorite new rules as houserules in your current game.
I think if you completely whaled on 5e and got everything at MSRP in print and on DDB, you may be talking close to three grand, I think the print alone is around $1600, not counting the price increase on the last few or the deluxe pricing of two of the settings. So while I think the whole rant is a bit apoplectically off, I'd accept someone claiming $1000s of dollars. That said, I'd assume someone with that much invested in the game, would know the game well enough that they'd understand the refresh for what it is and whether to buy into it or not.
Previous editions also had multiple later core books. 4th edition had 3 player's handbooks, for example.
You don't need to pay a single thing to play 2014 5th Edition. You won't need to pay a single thing to play 2024 5th Edition, if you wait until next year. The SRD exists, ya know, which has the rules for player all there for free. The 2024 version of rules will be released as SRD 5.2 in 2025 after all 3 books have been released.
There are people still playing every edition of D&D. Original, Advanced, 2nd, 3rd, 3.5, 4th... are all being played still. I'm not even looking for games and I've found LFG ads for all of them in the past few weeks alone. So, people will still be playing 2014 5th edition.
Releasing what is basically 5.5 is better than a whole new edition. They need to update and make new releases - it's how they stay in business. But as a 5.5 there's enough compatibility to make is easier to transition or just jerry rig a few things so it's much easier than a whole new edition.
Hasbro/WotC have done some very shitty things, but making 5.5 isn't one of them. It was time. If you like it - great your game got improvements. If you don't, no biggie, continue playing the current game. There are people who never liked 5th and play previous editions. You can always do that.
Your rant has no ground in reality or logic.

So you could be here ranting years ago that you bought these books and now you have to do it again?
Y'all know you can just go on Reddit and ask politely for some Sugar Masters to share content with you, right? Just make sure you have Master Tier subscription. Beyond gets to eat, Sugar Masters get to feel good about charity work, and you get access to stuff for an extremely low cost; everybody wins. Hell, some Sugar Masters will even turn on Content Sharing for you.
If cost is an issue, I do not think people should be spending money on D&D at all in the first place. It is nice to pay Wizards for their work, but GMs and D&D communities exist for a reason, so go to them if you need help with D&D resources. BR/SRD and EEPC are free, so you do not need to pay anything to play D&D. UA is also free, so it is not like you are missing out on much of the official published game mechanics either. And while UA might not be as polished as official published content, it is definitely more interesting and spicy.

I have a master's sub. I am nevertheless in no hurry to pick up these 'new improved' core books.
I do not begrudge WotC anything they earn. This is a luxury product. No need for hand wringing over price, no moral issue there. But it being a luxury product, I feel no urge to rush out and get it either.

While technically true, especially since the adventures are [claimed to be] still compatible... it's worth remembering that this isn't a "this has no consequence for you if you don't want to update". The whole point of the rules is to have a common framework among players, including new ones. WotC will almost certainly be pulling the PHB (2014) from sale, which is effective immediately on DDB. If I want to keep an open table that doesn't want to spend half an hour explaining the differences each time a new player joins (in my experience, that's been on average once every four or five sessions), then we'd have to update so they can get the rules for themselves.
For me, it's not really an issue. We'll probably be updating to 2024e anyway, so the big deal is that we get to keep the adventures (which I'm not entirely convinced is completely accurate, but still). However, it's not as simple as "ignore the update and it's fine, nothing changes).

Unless DDB won't support the original 5e ruleset anymore. If that's the case, then yes, they're trying to force everyone to buy the new books.
That being written, if what you have is working, its working. You can always go the library, check out a copy of the new PHB and if you think you want it you can buy it. From what I've seen of 6E, its not going be a 3.5 type of change. I'm personally good with what I have now.
I would love to see WOTC check to make sure this site has not been hacked.
It seems like a huge percentage of 1 digit post users are finding their old passwords and logging on just to make complaints. After years and years of never posting before. not even during the last huge problem.
