Clicking the cog to open up the side window for, say, saving throws for example works fine. However allot of them also open by clicking anywhere in the widget, not just on manage, which is just random and unintuitive.
This is by design, though; in fact, it's kind of the main feature of the sheet. The cog and the other clickable items do different things--the cog gives you things you can edit, update, manage, etc. while the others give you straight information, like the in-depth description of a spell or a weapon or a class feature. That's a bit of a simplistic breakdown but that's the main difference.

My screen is rather similar, is 2560x1440 such a rare resolution? Because reading this sheet is very hard even on that resolution and that isn't an "ultra" resolution like those of 4k screens. This entire sheet is made for ants. Everything is so hidden and clearly designed for mobile or much smaller (sub 1080p) resolutions as it's so very difficult to view on desktop with so much wasted space. Why are there no options to resize boxes? This doesn't affect everyone, just add in custom drag markers to let us resize them so I don't have to muck around in CSS every time i go to play a session.
Further feedback as I personally dislike the new sheet on many fronts:
Sorcery Points
Where are the sorcery points for sorcerers? Why is it hidden underneath a scroll bar? This is one of the most important resources for a sorcerer and it's so well hidden. It isn't under "Spells" where I would expect it, and it isn't displayed anywhere else prominently. As a sorcerer this is used constantly in and out of combat at all times. I have to go to Features and Traits > Class Features and then scroll for a bit to look for a tiny little section on it that has the tracker. You can't even view both your Sorcery Points and your Metamagics together at the same time as the window is so tiny.
Yes, in fact, that resolution is really rare. I'll give a small sneak peak into our analytics to show that I'm not just saying these things:
Keep in mind that is for the whole site (easier for me to pull quickly), but that specifically for the character sheet the percentage is even lower.
As for your points about Sorcery Points, displaying AC, etc. more prominently, and changing browser size on your screen, this is great feedback and we will consider everything you're saying. Sorcery Points, Ki, and other similar class resources will be part of a full-blown system before too long, and I think it will address many of your concerns.
would love a feature for storage/carrying of items to designate items to be in bag of holding or on animal to negate weight carried to reflect accurate weight.
Great work on the revamp! It feels a bit premature to critique it fully before it's done fully (Ki, Sorc points, Channel Divinity, Wild Shapes, Companions, etc), but here it goes. For reference, I'm a DM of six years, I DM three different parties, often with new players. We're all using desktop mode.
1) The two boxes on the right (The important ones with Combat and Features/Traits) feel too short. I'm always struggling to scroll in order to see anything. I would love the ability to resize them, or perhaps merge them into a single box. This cramped feeling of never having quite as much info on my screen as I want is the biggest issue with the revamp.
2) I understand why you wanted to keep the page very short, so we don't have to be scrolling up and down it, but I feel like I have to do too much clicking to jump between stuff like spells and equipment and weapons. It reminds me of the collapsible boxes that you got rid of: it hinders the at-a-glance capability.
3) It would be so helpful to have an "all" tab for spells, or for the sidebar to list all of your spells, or something. Clicking between the levels is annoying. When you click the gear in the bottom left hand corner, it's nice but it isn't a full list of all your spells. It's a list of prepared spells, and so it's incomplete. It would be nice if it worked more like the equipment sidebar, where I can see everything.
4) Weight overrides for custom items aren't working, as far as I can tell.
5) The blue color on spells cast at higher levels is a bit too...attention grabbing. It makes them look more special or important than the spells at their normal level. Please tone this down, as I find myself naturally overlooking the spells that are listed in normal black. This is also confusing because magic items are listed in color, so we're taught that colored text is superior/important.
6) When you're granted advantage in a skill, the number turns blue. Why is this different from the green with the d20 with an "A" on it?
7) Please add different levels of exhaustion. Just an "exhaustion" and "no exhaustion" options are useless.
8) When I click on conditions that are active on a character, the rules for that condition doesn't come up on the sidebar. There's no red d20 with a "D" on it to serve as a quick reminder. There's nothing. This needs to get changed.
9) When a character wears heavy armor that grants disadvantage on stealth checks, can we get some reminder on the sheet? Some red icon by the stealth modifier?
10) My ranger has two humanoid species as her favored enemy- why can't they be listed on the sheet?
11) Are there plans to add ad-hoc spells? I love how customizable everything else is, but spells seem like a missing spot there.
12) Is there any way to make it so the sidebar preferences can be saved each time we load up the sheet? It's a bit annoying to get it into "fixed and locked" each time I open the sheet.
13) On my laptop (which is a bit small, but not super small), I needed to zoom out on my browser in order to make the "fixed" orientation an available option. It would be great for this to work on any desktop or laptop, since fixed seems like a much much better option than overlay. Overlay mode blocks information and requires you to constantly be opening and closing the sidebar.
14) Is the space really laid out optimally? I feel like senses might be a bit too large, I think AC should probably be visible anywhere, some parties don't use inspiration (although I do, and I like the sunrise icon), your proficiency bonus is important but you don't need to reference it often in a session, and I think the proficiency and languages box is a bit too large as well. The two boxes on the right contain most of the important info, and they feel cramped.
15) Can we get the option back to remove unarmed strike? Most characters never use it.
16) Why doesn't "swing with an offhand light weapon" appear in the bonus actions tab?
17) What qualifies something as fitting into the "other" tab under actions? This seems ambiguous.
18) Could we get an option to adjust speed from "30 ft" to "6 squares" for people who use grids? My players get confused about the difference sometimes.
19) I love the various "resistance" "immunity" and "advantage" icons, but could we get a way to indicate that the bonuses aren't permanent? Or make it so that they only appear when certain conditions are met?
20) Could we get a more clear indicator for the amount of eldritch blasts you can attack with on your turn? Those spell notes are kinda confusing in general, but "Count: 2" won't help my warlock player understand it.
21) When I click on "Heavy armor" "martial weapons" etc, I would really like to see a list of those types of weapons or armor or whatever come up in the sidebar. Most players can't recall what's a martial weapon vs a simple weapon off the top of their head, and so telling them they can use "martial weapons" isn't helpful if they don't know what weapons are martial.
22) I know sharing things on social media is hip, but the "share" button next to long and short rests feels out of place. It doesn't belong next to other gameplay stuff, it's confusing. Also, there's also a share button in that dropdown menu when you click on your character name. A "Level Up" button would be great there in it's place. That "Manage Levels" button feels confusing and less cool than just "Level Up," which should be an exciting moment for the player. So needing to dig for a button that sounds boring kinda deflates the excitement.
23) Is it perhaps too easy for players to grant themselves tons of bonuses? It's not like players would grant themselves bonuses to cheat, but it could be confusing for a player to click on something and see the option to give themselves tons of feats or whatever. They might think they forgot something while leveling up. It'd be nice to disable this for my players.
24) Is the "Actions" tab really as important as the combat, spells, and equipment tabs? I feel like it's nice for new players, but for people who know how to do basic dnd combat, it doesn't really deserve a spot in the upper box. I think putting "Features and Traits" in the upper box, and "Actions" in the lower box might be a better setup.
25) Every time my players take a rest, they see that "Reset Max HP changes" box, and they ask me about it. And I have to explain that it's unimportant and not to worry about it. Could this get put somewhere less prominent? Max HP changing rules are fairly rare.
26) Can we set it so that we can see our walking and flying speeds at the same time? This is pretty niche, but it would annoy me if I were playing an aarakocra.
27) I'd like to be able to reorganize the skill list to sort by Strength skills, Dex skills, Int skills, etc. It would be a nice option.
28) One of my players has Blackrazor, which grants immunity to being charmed (among a bunch of other stuff) and I noticed that there's nothing about that under his defenses section. Why aren't condition immunities listed under defenses?
29) The gear in the bottom right hand corner of the spells and equipment tabs are too faint. Considering they serve such an important function, they should be easier to notice and quickly understand. As is, there's no way to know that that's how you add or remove spells from your list, or items from your inventory. I needed to just randomly click to understand.
Again, I love the sheet and think it's really great. Don't mistake all the criticism for disliking it. Many of these are nitpicks.
In Chrome on my phone (Nexus 5X) the header bar shows the character tidbits, hit points display and inspiration button.
In Chrome on my iPad Mini, the header bar shows the character tidbits section, the short rest button, the long rest button and the character builder button. This means that hit points are not easily accessible while on the combat screen, which is very inconvenient as a player needs to swap between the combat screen and abilities, saves, etc. screen frequently during combat.
Please change the display on iPad Mini to show hit points instead of the character builder and long rest buttons, which are needed much less frequently and are already easily accessed from the tidbits drop-down menu.
I've now had a chance to check properly and it's all widths greater than 768 and less than 1200 that don't have hit points always displayed. I'm sure this is an oversight rather that a deliberate decision and look forward to it being corrected.
I don’t know if I should put this here as feedback or as a bug, but i’ve noticed that in spellcaster characters that have racial inate magical abilities, the new sheet automatically calculates spell attack bonus and spell save DC based on the spelcasting ability of your class even if your racial spell uses a different stat. My characters exemple to try and clarify things. I have a fire Genasi wizzard, as a fire genasi I know the produce flame cantrip and can cast the Burning hands spell starting at the 3rd level, this spells are suposed to be basend on con, but as my characters is also a wizard the sheet defaults all spell calculations to be based on int. I have a +3 int modifier and a +2 con modifier, so the spell save DC for wizards spells should be 13 and the the DC for the racial spells should be 12, but the character sheet sets all my spells automatically to 13 even while noting the origin of the spell as a racial ability. Sorry if the explanation is little bit confusing as english is not my primary language.
The iPad Pro with that screen resolution does indeed use the desktop view in landscape, looking at it right now. The issue is with a standard or mini iPad - that's where it goes to 1024. Not sure what "Goldilocks" is intended to refer to there - it was the base size we designed for based on the screen resolution data we have for the last year.
Interesting, this is my iPad (iPad Pro 10.5, mid-2017, 2224x1668) and still see the mobile view on Safari and Chrome.
in any case, I agree with the general comments everyone has for mobile, with the caveat that I waaaay prefer this sheet over the last one. I’m sure we’ll see improvements over time as this was literally been out less than 24 hours.
I'm pretty sure it's based on the with of the screen in pixels. 1200px was chosen as the minimum width because at that point the boxes start to squish together. It is also a common "desktop" breakpoint in Web design.
If you can zoom the web page out on your tablet, you should be able to see it in desktop layout.
Unfortunately, because there is no "desktop mode" available at all for the character sheet when using a mobile device, I can't zoom out on my iPad: trying to do so results in thumbnails of all of my tabs appearing. This is not normal Safari iOS behavior, and the zoom works properly on other websites and if I have the forums pulled up here (and have forced the forums to show in mobile view). But it cannot be done on the character sheet, even if I have tried to force it to revert to desktop view.
With the previous character sheet, if my iPad was in landscape position, I could see the desktop view (or something close to it) instead of the mobile view automatically. Now the desktop view is completely unavailable to me.
The "Desktop Mode" link in the mobile menu was supposed to be removed. Clicking on that (it sounds like that's what you have done) will produce a completely bad experience. Unfortunately, the only way to get back into a mode that looks correct is to clear cookies for D&D Beyond. Apologies for that inconvenience.
The size of the desktop sheet is 1200 pixels, which will not fit on even landscape iPads, which are 1024. We are hearing the feedback about iPad landscape layout and are reviewing if any changes are needed. We want to be sure if we make changes that we consider all feedback after it's been used in play.
Thanks!
iPad Pro 9.7 and 10.5 are both way higher resolution than standard iPads, 9.7 is 2048*1936. So implementing desktop view on pros shouldn’t cause issues.
I'm no expert on this (our developers are), but the way I understand it is you don't actually get that resolution for the retina display - treats it as half of that. Again, we'll be compiling feedback and making changes as needed to tablet layout.

Without all the extraneous decoration and white space you could easily fit things. Honestly, i know you guys did some “reasearch” on how the site was used, but not making it fit right on a full sized tablet screen is daft. A 10.5” iPad Pro has a 2224x1668 screen. Half that for retina if you want to go that way, it’s 100 pixels short of your Goldilocks number 1200.
just another complaint to throw on the fire. Light grey headings for fields were a bad choice. On top of that, the coloring is nearly arbitrary. Sometimes a light grey thing is a menu item to click on. (Combat, action, spells, etc). Sometimes light grey is text is a field value. (Spell notes). Sometimes it is just a header. (The attack headings). Sometimes it is just a decorative box. There is no consistent design language being used anywhere. It makes for confusing reading.

For the other point, there are standards being used, they just might not be recognizable to you. This can certainly still be an issue if the standards aren't helpful, but I don't want there to be the perception that we didn't use target standards. We're already adjusting some areas of the sheet to make it clearer what is interactive or can be clicked.
Thanks!
It may display correctly in desktop mode on your 12.9 inch iPad Pro but it doesn’t on a 10.5 inch iPad Pro with screen resolution of 2224*1668 pixels, the redesign is excellent, a few obvious teething troubles but overall I love it, would just like the ability to use the desktop view on my iPad Pro 10.5 which is, I think, the most common pro on the market.
Since the release of the character sheet. New Half-Elves (Aquatic, Drow, High, and Wood) cannot pick the other 2 ability score increases during character creation. I'll be honest, my first time creating such a half-elf variant so not sure if it's normal behaviour or not.

I spoke a little too soon - it's been fixed on our development environment and will be deployed soon! My bad!
I would love for an easy way (or a way at all) to hide the higher level versions of low level spells for each level of spells. Some times you just want to know which spells you have availble, not just having the same spells being repeated/spammed all over. The new way of displaying it, while in some way genious and well intended, might very well get in the way and probably will. The option to toggle this on/off would be greatly appreciated!

Under the spells tab, look for the cog (

Interesting, this is my iPad (iPad Pro 10.5, mid-2017, 2224x1668) and still see the mobile view on Safari and Chrome.
in any case, I agree with the general comments everyone has for mobile, with the caveat that I waaaay prefer this sheet over the last one. I’m sure we’ll see improvements over time as this was literally been out less than 24 hours.
Has anyone figured out where to record exhaustion levels?
There appears to be an exhaustion switch under conditions but no way of recording the level short of putting some text in notes.
I'm no expert on this (our developers are), but the way I understand it is you don't actually get that resolution for the retina display - treats it as half of that. Again, we'll be compiling feedback and making changes as needed to tablet layout.
Thanks!
This was fixed a few minutes ago - the correct DC should now be displayed.
Want to see Virtual Table Top like no other before it built within DnDBeyond.com? Upvote the feature request. It's 2nd highest voted so far:

NOTE: You will need to setup a zendesk account (which is not your DnDBeyond.com account, the team uses this 3rd party software). It's easy to do and your votes are needed!
We all appreciate the the weekend grind! Thanks for the hard work!
