Just following the details given into the developpement videos on youtube... i can safely say that campaign managing coming up near next years end, is very very very very very far away to me. I know you said in there that you preffered not give any time, but you did say that campaign management was a "long term road" meaning that it was not on your plate right now. Everything i'm saying up to this point as been considered by what was said in the development vids.
sorry but i fail to see how feat homebrew is important for say initiative trackers ? i also fail to see how feat homebrew is important for features all of the other websites are giving us ?
want to know the real reason your infos are all saying homebrew is important ? because your website is free and costing much less then others. in a business model where you want people to pay for your work, which is to me appreciated in all manners. You'd have to work on actually having tools done, not just allow for database additions by people who just want a free tool on the net. Right now, those who actually pay for this service, actually pay for the books, because let's be honest, you charge far less then Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds which offers the very same deals and have been since 2 years ago. so in all honesty you are literally 2 years behind everyone. But since you offer for less then the others, we're giving you the benefit of the doubts here and just hope you get things done. which we're sure you are, otherwise we wouldn'T be here discussing this matter. But while i do want UA to be a thing so badly... i'd preffer having anything else that helps with managing books and official stuff.
they are right you know... we still don't have any familliars implementation andt hats official matter. we still don't have anything to help manage wildshapes either. heck we still don't have AC calculation corrected on character sheet yet. sorry but i fail to see how feat homebrew actually has to do with a correctly working character sheet ?
as for information.... i'd be willing to ask you, how many of that population actually paid for your books compared to those who talk here that have actually paid ? i can't say for certain, but i can at least believe i'm almost right when i say those who want homebrew are those who do not pay for stuff and thus thats why they homebrew stuff to begin with.
don't get me wrong badeye, i really love the work you guys do and am willing to wait. i waited a long time for xanathars guide or something of the sort. so i can wait for sure. but when i see a character sheet claiming to be awesome and yet it has lots of quircks in it still and then i see features like homebrew feats coming out... i can't help to wonder who the hell made these priorities ?
for me right now, if it was me deciding, as a GM i'd want the features i am using the most to be a thing. for now homebrew races was a way higher priority to me then feats. though i do understand that homebrew feats were easy to add compared to races. just saying, it is odd to me that you claim to be a tool set, yet have only one actual tool after 2 years of development.
Speaking as someone who bought the Legendary Bundle and very much likes homebrew, I feel slightly offended by your stereotyping of the people who want homebrew as merely people who don't want to pay for content they think they already own.
Mainly, though, I'm posting to point out that it isn't a completely accurate generalization.

I love homebrew too, but let's be honest.. we didn't pay up for the homebrew to begin with ! and most of those i spoke to on this site, haven't bought anything here and wants homebrew so they can create their own stuff and not pay for it.
also never said it was accurate, i just said i believe my saying to hold a bunch of truth to it. mainly due tot he fact that about 50 people i talked to don't even wanna pay for this site yet want to use it !

I paid for the homebrew. I paid for the tools that allow me to input homebrew and incorporate that into my player's characters. And to use my custom monsters while running games.
And isn't it nice that there are people who are willing to pay for sites like this so all those people you spoke to can use these amazing homebrewing tools for free? Socialism combined with capitalism at its finest.
According to the stat counter at the bottom of the page, there are over 370,500 members here. You've spoken to a whole 50 who want homebrew so they don't have to buy the content? The staff definitely needs to adjust their plans and throw out their own data. You've got your finger on the pulse of the users, for sure.
I'll patiently wait while BadEye and his staff execute their business plan, thanks. You don't need to claim you speak for me, @DnDPaladin.
Back to actual feedback here, could it be possible to link (like using monster tags or item tags) and have a “player view” showing maybe only the description of an enemy or item, but not stats or cr/xp? Kind of like a limited version?
I suppose this would be super subjective and thus not likely (what I think should be in this view is probably different from the next person), but just an idea.
The reason for this would be in campaign management I could link an enemy or item in one of the notes tabs and give the at-a-glance view for the players. Maybe even the ability to designate NPCs as linkable but the description being fully editable (essentially a notebox for the players notes).

I'm not even sure I can make sense of most of this, but if AC does not calculate properly at this point, this is the first I'm hearing about it. I have many, many characters and I don't have any problems with the way that my Armor Class calculates.
And one more correction, we have definitely not been developing D&D Beyond for 2 years. We are just now crossing the one year mark from the time it was even conceptualized.
So, from my perspective, there are a few things I want to see readily available for campaign management (whenever it's finished, I know you guys are working hard).
I'd love to see a virtual tabletop with Twitch integration, complete with drawing tools, map traveling, and some sort of miniatures. I love what you guys are doing, and I'd love to see a TableTop Simulator/ Roll20 kind-of thing, albeit with true integration from the books. I imagine this being a tab you can switch between with the character sheet, although each tab is interactive. If the DM enacts a status on you, it should also be visible in the character sheet right away. Some very basic things that should come with this are: a virtual roller, some tooltips/notes section, and connected maps, i.e. you can click a button and the map for room 11 comes up for players, and the back-end of it comes up for the DM.
Smaller feature, I'd like the ability to interact with my players from the campaign screen. This includes giving statuses, giving items, etc. The item I'd like to add is a more on-the-fly way to give/receive DM notes--as in private messages from the player to the DM. As a player, I don't think one should have to leave your character sheet to do this.
A bit off topic, but the class features in the character sheet are a bit too fleshed out. I don't really want to see that I made an ability score improvement. I'd like the ability to remove things from that tab as I wish.
Within the character sheet, it would also be nice to have a more fleshed-out notes section, for those gaming online.
I feel like there should be some sort of chat integration from the character sheet, also. I imagine these things will come with the Twitch-integrated streaming. This would also resolve my DM note suggestion above.
The ability to add images to the public/private DM notes would also be lovely.
There needs to be a loot system sort of thing. Ideally, from the DM side of things, there should be a zip-file sort of thing, in which items can be saved. When expanded, the DM can click and give it to the character she/he determines.
The character sheet may also want to include a backstory notes section, in which one can type out one's history and such. The DM could ideally expand this readily in order to remind himself on the fly.
Really, there needs to be a DM page, kinda like the character sheet page, in which she/he can manage the party, send notes, enable statues on players, see the files he/she needs, etc. The campaign area would be the idealized location to add these features. The DM could view party HP, what they've last rolled, etc.
Some sort of time management tool would be nice. I'd imagine this would come with virtual tabletop/twitch streaming/turn-keeping. Literally a clock for the in-game world. So, let's say the DM arbitrarily starts the game and it's noon to the characters. They then decide to all take a long rest. The DM can advance the time and say it's 8 PM (or whatever), and it would be visible to the party.
Campaign information should somehow be synced to the player's character sheet window, preferably in a another tab, so that names of the party are listed, you can make personal notes about the character and their player can't see it, etc. As a player, the less you have to navigate away from the character sheet, the better. It really feels like the hub, and I think that should be expanded.
This is the direction I'd personally love to see this project go. There has already been great amounts of work done, and I tip my hat to you guys. DnDBeyond excites me with the opportunities it has to be truly great. My summation of everything above is I want connectivity between the DM and the players, and between the players.
Some good suggestions M&M, only thing out of place is we can already add pictures into the DM notes (I was just messing around with that yesterday putting a map into the general information) you have the same 'tools' as you do in this here forum on the DM notes.

that was solved yesterday with the last update. basically it didn't calculate right because say you had a tortle, your AC would be 17 reguardless of you being a monk or having mage armor. that was not right, you should of had the choice of AC not be stuck with the one calculation that was there. if you have never noticed that then maybe you were too focused on other things, but isn't that why we're here to test things out.
And one more correction, we have definitely not been developing D&D Beyond for 2 years. We are just now crossing the one year mark from the time it was even conceptualized.
wait, i added another year because the beta came out at the beginning of this year. if you didn't start 2 years ago, doesn't that strickly means you rushed the software ? usually a program has been started like a year before with alpha about 6-7 months later and beta coming about a year later. man seriously if you started this project last year, that means its even more rushed then i thought it was. or was it that discussion with wotc took way too much time ? makes it feel like blizzard entertainment where it took them 5 years to create a scenario for warcraft.
in any cases, one thing about me you should know... i'm not angry when i type these, so please refrain from thinking i am when you read this. when i read your text i don't read them in angry tones, i imagine you calmly answering and having this discussion. As mentionned people, i'm patient, calm and i say whats on my mind. not because i wanna cry about it or be a jerk, but because i love discussions and this is to me something good to do. its the one thing i hate about written shit, tone and words are read by the person reading and interpretted the way that person wants it to. often just interpretted as, angry for some reasons. i'm not... just saying.
my biggest problem here is that while the compendium is awesome and the number #1 reason i am here to begin with. i just feel like this isn't a toolset at all, which is what wotc and curse are claiming. I love the compendium, i love the charcater builder, but to me a tool set includes more then just 1 tool. to me a compendium isn't a tool. that's the only thing i find weird.
back to campaign management, basically to me a campaign management would be adventure making softwares, where you can add pictures and info with boxes and all. now that the campaign management is able to withstand rich text box its much bettter already. but i really hope thats not all we'll get in the next year. because i truly think campaign management is what makes other websites more appealing right now. looing at Roll20 and Fantasy Ground who both have great tools for campaign creations. i don't think they'd be that good without it.

This may already be in the suggestions, but I haven't read the whole 25 pages. I just started a master subscription last week and bought my first two books with the cyber monday sale.
The immediate thing I was surprised not to see in the campaign manager was that I couldn't set elevate another player to DM status to have multiple DMs of a campaign or allow someone else to be DM and demote myself to player even though I'm still the owner of the account.
Roll 20 allows both of these functions and was part of why I opted to get a subscription to so the group I DM with and the group I play with would all be able to access the character builder.

In regards to vaying DM's, the owner of the Master Sub does not have to be the one to create the campaign. Have your friend create the campaign and send you an invite link. Once you've joined, YOU are the one that enables content sharing as the holder of the subscription.
More refined controls will be coming as we build out the campaign management modules.

You're right. However, I could expand on what I'd like out of that section. Currently it's more like an HTML/rich-text editor, which serves some pretty good purposes. However, I'd be amiss in saying it's very "user friendly". An interesting idea would be to add a page editor. Personally, I'd like a page in which I could have summaries of last sessions, some homebrew lore readings, etc. If you've ever used Blackboard in high school/college, something like that (but definitely not that). Just some simple customizable pages, maybe the ability to post/reply, etc. Definitely not fully-fledged forums.
I just want to throw out that a minimal amount of campaign management would be my second most wanted option for dndbeyond. Simple things like being able to exclude specific races or classes from character creation, or set default settings for things like advancement type and encumbrance.

Those sound like something that mostly involves communicating with your players. I don't see any of that being needed in the manager.

That is true, but what is the point of having everything digital if not for quality of life optimizations. Those are things that I personally would like out of dndbeyond as a digital platform. They are also fairly simple from a technical standpoint. Just because its something you don't see any need for doesn't mind others wouldn't like it. Hence the request.
I would like to see expanded character view for all the characters in the campaign which would include (for each character): - AC - HP (max + current) - Passive Perception - Initiative bonus - Speed
You can already see these if you click "view" from selected character, but it would be great to see all of the info at once!
I would say that a encounter builder + a combat tracker would be the number one thing I would use. This could be integrated nicely with the adventure modules as well and save a lot of work.
It would be nice to roll random encounters and it make a encounter based on the tables.
It would also be nice to roll from treasure tables based on what adventure modules you own. The tables from the DMG are nice but why not expand the tables with your new content automatically when you buy a new module.
I am still waiting to see an encounter builder. That’s definitely my number one interest. Having all of the D&D monsters in one place at dnd Beyond has been wonderful, but having a place to have monster groups ready to go would be phenomenal! It would probably be the thing that made me purchase more content too, where I could access more of the monsters. All in all though, dnd Beyond has been amazing and I love it. Good work guys!

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
I would like to see expanded character view for all the characters in the campaign which would include (for each character):
- AC
- HP (max + current)
- Passive Perception
- Initiative bonus
- Speed
You can already see these if you click "view" from selected character, but it would be great to see all of the info at once!
