There are like 5 or 6 versions of feats like Resilient and Elemental Adept, 3 versions for any feat that lets you choose a spellcasting ability, and a whooping 15 versions of the Strixhaven Initiate feat.
I use the homebrew systems a lot, and all of the functionality needed to condense these feats into one respective version with options (or less versions at the very least) exists already for race and class features, just feats for some reason don't have full functionality of 'Options'. We can only add 'Actions' to feat options, no 'Modifiers' or 'Spells' or anything. You also cant expand a characters spell list with the 'Additional Spell List' function.
DDB got Eldritch Adept to work with 1 version of the feat, I don't see why that functionality cannot be afforded to all feats. Wouldnt the feat menu be much cleaner without all these duplicates?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'scuffed', but Eldritch Adept as a feat is structured differently from Resilient and Strixhaven Initiate, meaning it's possible to set it up a single choice within the feat. This isn't possible (currently) with the other feats due to how they're worded and how the feat options system works.
Ok, but my point is more that i could make a fully functioning version of say, elemental adept, as a subclass feature using 'Options'. The wording of the feats isn't really an issue.
Is there a reason why the feat options system doesnt have the same functionality that the race and class option systems have? it seems like it already exists and wouldnt cost much to afford it the same functions.
EDIT: As another example, the Fey Touched feat;
Make 3 'Options', one for each of the 3 spellcasting abilities.
For each option, add a 'Modifier' that raises the respective spellcasting ability score by 1 (Bonus - Ability Score - CHA/WIS/INT).
For each option, add a 'Spell' that can be any of the applicable 1st-level spells, using the respective spellcasting ability.
And for each option, add a 'Spell' for Misty Step using the respective spellcasting ability.
The current 3 versions of the feat do this, but as 3 separate versions of the feat, instead of as 1 with fully functional 'Options' like class and race features have.
The feat system doesn't work the same way as other systems and so does not support options in the same way. It would need to be rebuilt in order to do so.
I can assure you, the team has set these feats up in the best way they can given how the system functions.
I guess what I'm asking is; Is there a reason why it doesn't work the same way as the other systems?
It just seems like the functionality exists already, i don't really get why it would need to be rebuilt if it exists already. It doesn't seem like they would need to scrap anything about the system as it is now, just apply the functionality of 'Modifiers', 'Spells', and whatnot.
Because the system wasn't built that way initially back in the early days of D&D Beyond. Back then there was more pressure/drive to get things working rather than any kind of future proofing. This is a legacy the team has been dealing with every day since then. Steps have been made with lots of system overhauls, but there's still work to be done
So, will feat options one day be able to operate with the full functionality that class and race features currently have? Is there any specific problems preventing the team from applying this functionality to feats as well?
Would you happen to know when the next AMA with a member of the Dev team will occur?
I see one happened in may for Dave Hartless, the VP of Engineering. Based on his comments there, am i correct in assuming he had a hand in the fundamental systems creation?
Honestly I'm sure this is not high on the list. It's functional, which is more than can be said about stuff like the Piety system or certain subclass spell lists. Seems like a weird thing to be up in arms about, all things considered.
It IS an annoyance, and newer players are often under the mistaken impression that they can take these feats more than once. The usual example is a player not knowing they can't take both Resilient Wis and Resilient Con on their character to hit all three core saves, because technically "Resilient" is a single feat.
It is an issue, and it doesn’t technically represent RAW very well as Yurei pointed out. Not to mention the sheer volume of clutter it’s causing under Manage Feats. This really should be fixed.

Those are questions I can't answer, I'm afraid. They'd be better directed to the dev team, maybe during a future AMA or other such opportunity.

Fair enough...

If there was one scheduled, it'd already be announced.
