Not sure why "do it if you want" comes off as divisive. As spidey said, it's literally not addressed in the 5e rules at all, so if you feel it's important you need to go out of your way to handle it. It would be great if DDB could handle this, but honestly I hope they're prioritizing real content (which they're already a bit behind on) over supporting houserules. And I'm saying that as a person who has a lot of houserules.
Heh. That's the thing. It's not actually a houserule. Each container has a given weight capacity (also a space capacity, though that tends to be nebulous), and if you don't have that container on or with you? You don't get what's inside it. How many such containers a DM lets you have is up to them, but the rules do tend to lightly assume that an adventurer needs to be able to tell the DM where anything they're carrying on their person is.
I like Sposta's solution as a stopgap, one of the few nonstandard uses of emojis that doesn't make me cringe. Nevertheless, it's hardly a houserule to say "make sure you can always answer me when I ask 'where's your stuff', because there will be times when it's important."
There is a different given price, though no different stated function (that I'm aware of). According to PHB 143:
With one gold piece, a character can buy a belt pouch, ...
while the standard "pouch" we know to be 5 sp.
Every use of belt pouch is as part of a background, while a few pouches show up in tools.
Re: belt pouches costing 1gp, that's not what I see when I look at that section:
With one gold piece, a character can buy a bedroll, 50 feet of good rope, or a goat.
(The Basic Rules uses the same language as the PHB if you want to see the Coinage section there.)
First, I was super confused as I stared at my PDFs, but I have since learned that older editions had Belt Pouch, and then at some point it switched to Bedroll.

Emojis
🎒=Hewards Handy Haversack
👝=Herbalism Kit
💼=Saddlebags
That way if he’s not near his horse he doesn’t have that stuff in the saddlebag.
If he doesn’t have his backpack, he doesn’t have that stuff.
Etc.

(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer
(Rogue) DaggerMaster | Inquisitor | (Sorcerer) Riftwalker | Spellfist
(Warlock) The Swarm
Inventory and containers are not “houserules” and a lot of people have been requesting them. They are slated to begin coding them next quarter.
