That’s really cruddy news all of my players use UA and love to help with the play test feedback. The digital interface makes it really easy for some of my newer players. It also makes me a bit worried about the status of D&D beyond are we gonna start losing more content in the future?
It may take a little more effort, but there is a subforum dedicated to homebrew, and you can have more experienced people there guide you on how to recreate UA content, assuming it is possible to implement it in the first place.
Alternatively, while UA cannot be shared via published homebrew, it can still be shared privately through campaigns. If somebody has recreated the UA content, you can just ask to join their campaign and have them create a duplicate UA character for you to claim. And once you claim it, just make sure you save a master copy of your claimed character and then make copies of it to distribute to your players.

I mean, we've been missing out on content for years already - "start" isn't really appropriate. This step is meant to address that. I'm not saying that means we'll get all that missing functionality by the end of next week (or in some cases at all), but the goal is to remove UA implementation as a hurdle for dealing with actual, official content at least.

I mean before we complain about unofficial content, how about some of the phb features that are still unsupported? or fully implementing some of the tasha's optional feature integration. its still a pain to quick reference some of the Tasha's stuff in the class rules section.
wildshapes, PHB beast companions, animal shapes are the ones that come to mind. there are still others (feat related, I think).
A friend and myself are wondering if anything was going to happen to the Critical Role's Exclusive Blood Hunter Class? As it's Unofficial Content
The unofficial Critical Role stuff (Blood Hunter, Gunslinger, Way of the Cobalt Soul, and Oath of the Open Sea) are not UA, and so are completely unaffected by this.
I get it. From a business standpoint, this makes total sense, and I'm honestly not mad. However, I have one question, and sorry if it's already been answered;
So you are removing UA support on DDB, meaning that there will be no content under playtesting available for use, other than homebrew or stuff that's already in use on our characters. Great. I get that. So it seems like you are removing a step (in a good way) from the process of transitioning stuff from playtest to (for lack of a better word) legal DnD content. Does this mean that UA stuff will arrive on Beyond once it is fully approved for use, or that the only content we get from now on will be in source books?

Only stuff from official published will be supported on Beyond.
Any future UA will not be implemented. UA will not be implemented during the play test period, and Wizards does not allow UA that are old and archived to be brought back.

I feel this is just one small portent of what is coming. The writing on the wall keeps getting more and more legible.
And what does it say, oh great swami?
The world is doomed and armageddon is coming!
Sarcasm aside, I hope that means that Beyond can get all its priorities finished sooner, and the sooner they finish, hopefully the sooner they will consider resuming UA in the future. And even more hopefully, Beyond can ask Wizards to allow the monetization of the integration of archived UA with the digital tools. That way, UA's digital integration will still remain free during the playtest period, but Beyond would be incentivized to implement UA since they can charge people for it once it gets archived.
I definitely would not mind paying money to access archived UA and older versions of published content. While I do not mind the new Bladesinger, I still want the option to use the old Bladesinger. And if Beyond does get a VTT done someday, incorporating UA mass combat would open up a lot more storytelling potential.

I mean, UA is playtest material. What does “fully approved” even mean other than “it can go in a sourcebook”? If it’s UA, it’s unofficial. If it’s in a book, it’s official. I don’t think it can be a little bit of both.

I understand the reasons for stopping future support of UA materials. I'm less clear on why currently active UA material is being retired now instead of waiting for WotC's mandate.

Hello,
My guess is that at least some material is nearing the end of its playtest cycle and DnDB pulls UA at the end of playtest, as per their agreement with WotC.
All Unearthed Arcana playtest content on D&D Beyond has now been archived, as of 12th August 2021, and may no longer be selected to add to a character.
The full list of content that has been archived today is below.

UA support was nice, and maybe in the future it will return, but for now all hands are needed for what’s coming. Big things are afoot at the circle-k!

Probably not, as its already implemented, they just dont want to keep allocating resources to update UA
Disappointing, but if this means a great focus on new features... I'm all for it then.

This is why we should always be excellent to each other! 💗
I can officially confirm that it's ONLY the Unearthed Arcana playtest rules that we're ceasing to add.
The Critical Role content is not being affected by this change.
