There isn't really anything I notice that is different between one of my homebrew creations and a bag of holding that would signify why the BoH would count as a container, and not mine. The only thing I've seen that is worthy of difference between a BoH and a regular magic item, is that a BoH is tagged with "container" and "utility", something I've tagged mine with as well, without it actually popping up in inventory as a container.
Do I have to completely remake my old item, and base it on a BoH to make it work, or is there currently no way to do it?
It's a shame this doesn't exist yet, but since Containers functionality is so new and still being worked on, it's not a surprise.
I only found out today, when I tried to homebrew a variation of a bag of holding that the homebrew'd item loses the bag's container functionality - hence finding this thread.
No offense, I understand a lot goes into coding and maybe my standards are too high... but the staff here seems more keen on livestreaming things or re-polishing already accomplished things, instead of creating new and useful features? Years have gone by... years. Not weeks or months, but years, like, >36-60 months, and only a handful of additions have been implemented. I think I've spent like $1500 on all the sourcebooks and subscriptions, and I do support dndbeyond, but... I wouldn't hold my breath. It's really weird and disheartening. Would you rather A) be able to homebrew weapons and containers, use snippets everywhere, or B) have your containers separated in the dndbeyond interface, or be able to select your character sheet appearance in a more polished manner? Easy answer imo, yet, here we are!
Your best bet is to rename one of the containers that have been implemented into the system, which requires some googling.
Quiver for arrows, a pouch for bullets, always the backpack or bag of holding, etc.
Why isn't this a functional thing after years and dozens of threads? If I create a copy of a Bag of Holding, it should be a copy of a Bag of Holding that I can edit. It should not be an item with the text of Bag of Holding that is not a container (which therefore is not a copy).
The best way to create a container is to build out the container as you would if it worked correctly, but set the weight to 0. Then add the item to the backpack and also add a bag of holding (or similar item). You can then customize the it's name, weight, and carrying capacity, thus giving it the look and feel of an actual container.
Pry because I never actually played a campaign before but thanks👍
I dont even know the difference but I doubt you have time for me anyway, just like everyone else mostly 😄👍
The Carrying Capacity stat refers to how much a creature of a particular size category can carry, not the capacity of a container, unfortunately. So that stat won't affect anything in this situation.
Is there a way to make a custom container?

We can't homebrew containers yet, but it's planned for later in the Containers feature rollout.
Helpful rewriter of Japanese->English translation and delver into software codebases (she/e/they)
Do you have a date for when it will be released?
DDB never gives ETAs like that. If they never give an ETA, then they can never be late.

Alms box, it’s weightless and has no storage capacity limit.

Also adding myself as I too am awaiting the ability for this functionality to be put on the homebrew items.
Oh this feature ain't here yet.
Still no custom containers...

Somebody queue the Jeopardy waiting theme....
I even noticed that you can go to modifiers and add a carry capacity but yeah that's all I noticed, and it don't work
That’s a carrying capacity for races, not items.
