There's no way to automatically add additional damage dice. The only work around would be to make a feat with a custom action that has the extra damage button the player would have to click separately, similar to how Sneak Attack works on a rogue.
So with that in mind, could I, in theory, add that action to the item?
As per the Homebrew Items & Equipment FAQ #3, not so much.

found something wierd... I made a thread but I think that I solved the problem so I deleted it...
I was creating an homebrew item and I found an inconsistency:
as you can see on the mobile version the COPY of the Cli Lyre says "Available Charges" but the custom item says "Used Charges" even if the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION are basicly the same... so I did some testing...
I started with a copy of the Cli Lyre and I change one thing at a time...
I found out that in the moment that the NUMBER OF CHARGES goes to 5 (or under it) the item description goes from Available Charges to Used Charges
I think is a bug (that can be added to a long list in the homebrew magic item feature...)
I don't know if that was a known bug or a new one but I think the "mistery" is solved...
not a great feature imho considering that "Used Charges" scales backward as "Available Charges"
Used Charges shoud start from 0/3 and go up to 1/3 - 2/3 - 3/3 and than need to be recharged
Available Charges (as it does correctly) start from 7/7 and go down to 6/7 - 5/7 - 4/7 - ... - 0/7 and than need to be recharged
but both behave in the same way...
you were probably emphasizing "considered" and you agree that it's not a good feature ç_ç minor problem nonetheless is one more and I think we sould be able to control if an item scales upward or backward and if it says "Used Charges" or "Available Charges"...

ok thank you, I didn't know about that part of the forum... at the beginning I thought that it was a me problem and not a feature so I posted it here :)
That’s why I said it was a feature. It’s designed for the website, the app just doesn’t handle it well.
Yes i noticed that in the website it was different... but many people including myself use the app from the tablet/phone so I think that both the version should work smoothly :)
Oh, I don’t disagree that in an ideal world things should be consistent across both platforms, but I gave up on this website even attempting to approach anything even close enough to smell ideal if it stood downwind of it. 🤷♂️
maybe i missed something obvious in the faq thread - but for artificer, if we have a homebrewed subclass but don't have TCoE/any individually purchased artificer subclasses, is there any way to access the subclass in question? or do i have to pay $2 to get dndbeyond access to base artificer + the subclass?
Hey, I'm trying to integrate a homebrew tooltip as instructed in General FAQ no. 9, and I'm stuck on this part:
"Now the code just needs to be embedded properly. You know the little grey buttons above the description field (or forum post)? Find the one with the following symbol and click/tap it:
</>".
I can't for the life of me find this button. Where is this? Thanks!

It’s not a bug, it’s considered a feature.

It's probably just an oversight by the app dev team. The website version has different ways to display number of uses/charges:
5 and under:
Over 5:
Even items on the website do something similar:
Staff of Defense:

You have to unlock the base class through purchase of a subclass.

How do you make a race deal extra damage of a different type?
(e. g. An extra 1d6 poison damage to unarmed strikes, that still deal the bludgeoning damage)
