Whellp… theoretically that should be the way to do it. I would have to play around with it myself to see.
From a non-technical standpoint, I personally wouldn’t do a cantrip that would heal like that as it’ll likely make damage and healing irrelevant. I’ve struggled to make a healing cantrip myself. My attempts were nowhere near as powerful as all that and they all bombed so far. I hope it works out for you. 🤞
Alright, I tested it and it worked for me. I started with a traditional damage cantrip and just changed the modifier and it worked perfectly. 🤷♂️ I dunno what to tell you.

Did you start with a healing spell and try turning it into a cantrip, or did you start with a damage cantrip and turn it into a healing cantrip?

I started with mending and modeled the healing off of cure wounds, basing the scaling off of fire bolt’s die scaling and cure wounds’s modifier scaling.
(P.S. the cantrip concept is just an improved mending, in that it can heal an undead or construct that you created and control. Such a creature could not benefit from the cantrip again until the next dawn.)

Okay, that all makes sense. Thanks again!

Sposta, would you happen to know how to make a cantrip that scales healing like a damage cantrip? I can’t get it to work.
The modifier and scaling I’ve got at the moment are:
Bonus -> Hit Points: 1d6
Higher Level Scaling Type: Character Level
For each scale, there is:
Level: X -> Modifier: (Bonus -> Hit Points: 1d6) -> Additional Points: Yd6
No matter what, it always shows only 1d6 on any given character sheet. (I have repeatedly pressed [Save Changes].)

I started with either Shocking Grasp or Lightning Lure (I forget) and then amended it:
Test Healing Cantrip
You touch a creature and it regains 1d4 HP.
This spell’s healing increases by 1d4 when you reach higher levels: 5th (2d4), 11th (3d4), and 17th level (4d4).
That👆worked. 🤷♂️ Did you try “waking up” your character sheet? (General FAQ 6-B)
PS- Ahh ha ha. That makes sense.
