New DM here, want to make a game for my non-d&d friends who I know would be more interested in the game if it had an Arabian knights theme. Being a player rather than a DM, I have ideas for PC flavour more so than story and setting. So I'm looking for some inspiration for things that I can easily reflavour into an Arabian theme. A rogue becomes a Hashashin, a Paladin becomes a templar, a wizard becomes a Sufi etc. Is there a particular campaign the I could use as a base? any ideas for a BBEG that isn't just Jaffar from Aladdin? (Although, evil archmage of Agrabah isn't too bad of an idea). Any ideas welcome, settings, bad guys, npcs, player subclasses and ideal build, magical items that would make sense?
M.T. Black's Calimshan Adventurer's Guide could be a good resource. If I were making this world, I'd heavily involve the D&D versions of djinn, the djinni, dao, efreeti, and marid. In Arabic lore, djinn are spirits of the earth, mostly malicious.

Seconded, I've recently finished reading S.A. Chakraborty's Daevabad trilogy (City of Brass, Kingdom of Copper and Empire of Gold) and this is the angle I'd 100% go for; it might also be worth reading up on the Forgotten Realms' City of Brass for some inspiration too; while it's on the elemental plane of fire, having it crossover with the material plane (e.g- appear like a mirage on the desert) or for the players to wind up there for a bit by some of means could also be a lot of fun.
Basically that's what I'm planning to do eventually if I can clear my backlog of other campaign ideas.

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Cheers guys, will look into all the stuff mentioned. Just need to work on some reflavoured classes and spells etc. Will keep the same stuff, just rename it to be a little more Arab/Ottoman themed.
While it wasn't intentional when I made it, I'm always drawn towards the Arabian style art when looking for good depictions of my Blade Dancer Ranger subclass. Check it out if interested.
Also my Zephyr Blade scimitars, Mistral and Sirocco could just as easily be Haboob and Simoom or various other winds of the region.
Not quite as on the nose as Al-Q, but the Dark Sun setting also has a lot of great desert-themed ideas.

Thanks in advance.
Look for an older D&D setting called Al-Qadim.

Amazing, thanks. I was planking to include Djinni but didn't know about the others.
