This dull metal blade of this sword is fragmented into dozens of pieces, held together by pure arcane force.
You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
This sword has 3 charges that reset on a long rest. You can expend one of these charges as a bonus action to shatter the blade, extending out the shards whilst still holding a razor's edge to increase your reach to 10ft until the beginning of your next turn. When you spend a charge in this way you also deal an additional 1d6 force damage.
Been on a kick of making swords recently and wanna get this one looked at because I've never messed around with giving a weapon reach before.
Not bad. The wording needs a cleanup, and official magic items with charges never reset on a rest, only at dawn (or sometimes noon or dusk or midnight or something). Namely because something like a sword has no concept of “resting,” but Dawn is considered a natural, universal force that resets magic. (That comes from IRL magical lore by the way.) if I may be so bold:
The Shattered Blade

This sword has 3 charges that reset each dawn. As a bonus action you can expend one of this sword’s charges to shatter the blade, extending the pieces out in a line of razor sharp shards held in place by the blade’s magic. Until the beginning of your next turn this weapon gains the reach property, and deals an additional 1d6 force damage on a hit.
That’s more like how WotC would write something like this. They might also link the bonus action to a command word, but I don’t think it’s really necessary as it would nerf the item a bit since one wouldn’t be able to activate it in a zone of magical silence. Yeah, I like it.
I like this. The only thing that makes me sad is that it's a longsword which is already the most represented weapon for enchantments. Any reason this couldn't be any one-handed blade?

The reason I picked a longsword is because this is meant for my friend who's playing a paladin in my home game. Though like Sposta said this could absolutely be used for any sword type. I'll probably go ahead and make a few more weapons of this type for non-longsword enjoyers lol.

My homebrew subclasses (full list here)
(Artificer) Swordmage | Glasswright | (Barbarian) Path of the Savage Embrace
(Bard) College of Dance | (Fighter) Warlord | Cannoneer
(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer
(Rogue) DaggerMaster | Inquisitor | (Sorcerer) Riftwalker | Spellfist
(Warlock) The Swarm
Or really any sword for that matter? I mean, even on a greatsword it wouldn’t be broken. “Shattered,” but not broken. 😂😂
