Hello, I'm trying to make a spell that allows you to summon a homebrew monster, but I cannot seem to be able to put the tooltip in. How do you do it, for this and also for future reference? Even if you say its not possible, at least I won't waste 3 hours trying to figure it out.

Thanks for the quick reply! What I'll probably do is put the name of the monster and link it as if it were an outside page.

Hi, sorry to bring this thread back up but is it possible to add this feature? I'd like to use this to reference two versions of a monster that has the ability to transform and both versions have different stats, think psudodragon turning into a medium sized wyvern kind of different. It'd be nice to be able to add an internal link or tooltip to reference the other monster so we can put these kind of monsters in the community homebrew, since any links currently would result in external links which can't be submitted.
I mean I get that, but if we can't use external links, then is there a possibility for something like this to be added is what I was trying to ask. Like, if the wysiwyg editor recognizes a dndbeyond link, it would allow it and not treat it as an external link.
I really hope one day there'll be a D&D Beyond v2 because there are some serious oversights in the design of the app's data plane. There's really no reason you couldn't assign each homebrew creation a unique ID and reference them via that. I'm perfectly willing to accept that this isn't possible in this version of the app (and would take a pretty serious data migration to implement) but the homebrew capabilities of D&D Beyond at this point are limited for... puzzling reasons.

Thank you, that's very useful. However, the main thrust of my point is that such a solution (and others delineated in that guide and elsewhere across the forums) is jank because of a fundamental failure of design (handily captured in #1.1).
The point of this thread is people wanted to know how.
The guide shows how.
If all you want to do is complain about the site, this isn't the thread for it, and there are rules for being off-topic. I'd suggest making a new thread in the Feedback forum.

Understood, however as a developer I know as a matter of fact that submitted homebrew content has an ID in a DB. Therefore, instead of referencing "Monster XYZ" by name, you just need to provide the users with a unique ID (which already exits) to reference as part of your internal link functionality.
Anyone who wants the unique ID simply by looking at the url for that homebrew. All I was saying is that some folks struggle to get the official tooltips to work properly when the “unique ID” is as simple as the name of the monster. Having to go look up a number out of the middle of the url…. That would blow some peoples’ minds.
Do I personally feel that they should allow us to tooltip homebrews? Absolutely, categorically yes I do.
Do I think they’ll spend the resources to implement such a system for us? 🤣😂🤣 I mean, no I sincerely doubt that they ever will. And frankly I wish they would prioritize fully implementing the published content that still doesn’t work around here after all these years.
I'm just saying it wouldn't be hard, certainly not impossible, and for those of us willing to research and learn how to use the tool, it would be a tremendous asset. From what I can tell there is a pretty big market for it even in the forums alone. But I agree that I don't think it will happen. kind of all comes down to how much noise we make and I'm not sure that this is the hill I want to die on lol.

I think the thing that will open up the most avenues for improvement to the homebrew tool will be expanding 3rd party support which they have been making baby steps towards with the release of Tal'dorei Campaign Settings: Reborn and Dungeons of Drakkenheim. If they keep with their plan of making DDB a marketplace for 3rd party providers selling stuff on this website, and there's a financial incentive to provide more robust tools for them to utilize, then there might be some trickle down to us in the homebrew community.

It is not possible, the name and description of homebrew content is too irregular to easily design a tootip system with it, much less a good one.
My homebrew content: Monsters, subclasses, Magic items, Feats, spells, races, backgrounds
The problem is that if three different users all create a monster named “Monster XYZ,” how would the system know which one to link to?
