Agreed 100% - Like other books before, I want a breakdown of what is actually "new" is this book. This feel like a large Errata - and I don't feel that we should be paying full price for a WotC course correct.
I understand the adjustments on things, and not here to debate any of that. But the deliberate lack of information since the announcement is a huge pain the ass
Honestly, I believe we are thought of as the 'vocal minority' here, hence DDB's approach to putting this up for sale and not telling us, their customers who have spent hundreds of dollars/pounds with them, how this will actually work.
I believe they expect large numbers of people to blindly order it and not say a thing. I dare say they are correct on this I'm afraid.
We'll get an answer eventually but I've got to say, I actually felt offended to be attacked by that blue banner asking me to pre-order without those details we need being laid out so that we can make an informed choice.
Here's my beef: why are they taking people's money now, if they're only going to let us know what they're doing with M3 next Tuesday? DDB content is non-refundable, you can't get your money back if it turns out you bought something you already own. It's disingenuous and scummy, and I'm not about to stand silently by and let it happen if I can help it.
DDB has no worthwhile excuse not to tell us this crap. None. Even if their excuse is "Wizards told us we can't", that's not a worthwhile excuse. We're doing business here, with DDB. If they don't have the spine to stand up for their customer base and tell Wizards to sod off, inform them that DDB is required to give their customers straight answers on contentious issues like this? Why the hell are we even here? Why did anybody bother with the separate service at all?
I completely agree with you. It feels scuzzy to market the product this way. If feels like a trap. I am just saying that if THEY don't say anything (which they likely won't) we may know more next week anyway.
Totally agree. It feels a bit like the lack of discount on books with reprinted subclasses like the ones in tashas except in this case the whole book is reprints?
Not having this explained for people who haven't been following this release and who might already have VGtM and MToF is probably gonna cause a lot of problems later...
Well, we will know more next Tuesday right? When the set hits the market, will DnDBeyond update then or will they have to wait till May? Waiting that long after the book is in the world seem odd, but seems plausible at this point.
The big question is will they update or will they have two versions?
That is what I mean. The set hits the streets next week. Does DnDBeyond have to wait till May to make changes IF they are doing an update? OR will we see the changes to the information we already have next week? This whole thing is a cluster F(#k at the moment.
Surely they’ll resolve the fluster cluck and explain everything to us in the next regularly scheduled Dev update.
This one of the main reasons that I don't rely on this site for my games. I use it to do research or prep, but as a foundation to build my game on. HAHAHAHAHAHA not a chance.
It could be that they haven't communicated anything to us because there is nothing to tell yet, This situation is unprecedented and the way they handle this will define future policy. Will hold off preordering till I know how they are approaching this.
REALLY hope we're not going to have different Stat Blocks with identical names.
Is there anyone who owns SCAG but not Tasha's who can confirm that DDB feeds you the updated bladesinger? If this is yes, then there's certainly a precedent that the M3 updates will be pushed as errata rather than exclusive content.

I got both, but I do know that the updates got pushed. (They did for the Artificer too.)

They said they did this, and that was confirmed. The same thing happened with Artificers, Tritons, Kobolds, etc. Once new content was published it overrode old content forever.
I'm with Yurei on this one. Until I have a clear defined answer on what they're doing, they won't have my money. I haven't renewed my master tier sub either until I get answers. Them cancelling the dev update and not being willing to engage their community is the direct reason I have not spent money this year.
Usually with a preorder, DNDBeyond will give us some form of free digital goodies for when the book releases. I didn't see that on the multiverse book. It's not like they are going to run out of digital copies on the release date. Without a preorder incentive, I'll wait until the release date or later.
I don't intend to buy this book at all as it stands right now.
It promises to be a bunch of updates that I don't even need or want. And if they do automatically update everything with what's in this book, that would really annoy me as I'll have to recreate all the old stuff.
I have no problem with the content we've seen so far and am excited to see where it goes.
That being said, I have never really understood the point of preordering anything that is guaranteed to be available for purchase the day it comes out. I would urge anyone to wait regardless of how you feel about the product right now, simply because there's no benefit in committing to it now.
In case you missed it Dndbeyond, this is what your users being sick of your complete lack of clear communication or consideration of your userbase looks like.
You have burned up 100% of the goodwill you started with. Grow a spine, tell your managers and your managers managers who say not to say anything that your userbase is actively looking for alternative sites. You are 1 really good update at Foundry or Roll20 away from losing half your customers.
Not feeling the love for this one, I must say. I like most of the leaked changes I've seen, not all, but close. But I haven't seen any monster stats and I'm already not a fan of the ones we have now so it's a no for me until I know more. I haven't talked to the other DM's in my group but we'll see.
Not bloody okay, DDB! I know you people hate the forums, but the Discord server is a tire fire and always has been. You can do bloody better than this. THis website right here is where all your business takes place. FREAKING TALK TO US HERE, not on Discord where the message will disappear three slivers of a second after it's posted in the infinite sea of nonsense that is a five-digit population Discord server.
Still...thanks for what little update we can get, Spidey. It grinds my last little gear, but it's better than the dick-all they've been feeding their forum folks.
A lot of folks here could stand to learn the useful skill of asking important questions straightforwardly, without going off on petulant tangents. Who knows—it might even make DDB more inclined to answer those questions.
The main thing I'd like to know is whether the Monsters of the Multiverse versions of the monsters are going to entirely supplant the versions from Volo's/Mordenkainen's or exist side by side with them. Sending the old versions down the memory hole would be a serious inconvenience for DMs who already own the earlier books and don't intend to buy Monsters of the Multiverse. OTOH, maintaining side-by-side versions of every updated monster seems like exactly the sort of thing a service like DDB would be disinclined to do, and the retconning of monsters that have appeared in Candlekeep Mysteries and The Wild Beyond the Witchlight—which made many monsters disappear from searches when filtering by alignment—suggests that the memory-hole approach may be exactly the one DDB is going to take. If that's what's going to happen, it would be a courtesy to users to let them know.
Back in The Good Old Days™ it was always stated by Adam very clearly and in advance that DDB would update existing monsters, subclasses, etc. with the latest changes per the DDB agreement with WotC (who knows if that's changed, but I would doubt it). If you had already purchased a monster, race, etc. if a new/updated version came out, it would be updated for everyone regardless of whether they bought the new book. I no longer watch the Dev Update's (I'm really not a fan of the current approach of "ZOMG you guys! Everything is more exciting than everything else!") It seems, ahem, curious (to put it nicely) that there have been no announcements, and it looks like the last 2 Dev Updates were canceled.
I do love DDB, but this is pretty lame.

I'll definitely be waiting to see whether or not it's worth forking over any more dosh for content I effectively have already paid for.

Am snek.
